Fake Rain Team (it has a Politoed)

Hello there to those who know me and my weird format for Pokemon RMT! And to those who don't, I will follow up the images later or as soon as I have time to make them. For now, I'll be stuck with the moving pictures and stuff so this will be a little bit short and boring to read. Everyone is free to try this team out as they wish. No permission needed.

Sidenote:
To look back, my old team, Defensive Dragonite, has been a great success although no Pokemon was replaced by suggestions but I thank all those who rated and helped me build a little strategy. If anyone wants to see my old team, here's the link: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3460390

Now let's get on with this and let me introduce my team!

Forretress@Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Nature: Calm
~ Stealth Rock
~ Toxic Spikes
~ Rapid Spin
~ Volt Switch

Forretress, the poke I usually lead with. Stealth Rock is obligatory and Toxic Spikes is only needed when I am battling a defensive team or when I really can set them up as they help me stall. A note to all wondering why I have no attacking moves like Gyro Ball or Earthquake, to me, Forretress isn't meant to attack so there's no point putting an attack. If I wanted to attack, I would've put Ferrothorn here 'cause it has more attack and a stronger Gyro Ball as it is slower. But I need Rapid Spin more than I need Ferrothorn's higher SpD. So the point here is cleared. Let's get on with the next Pokemon.

Gastrodon@Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SpD
Nature: Sassy
~ Earthquake
~ Ice Beam
~ Toxic
~ Recover

Gastrodon, the Pokemon who became OU because of the Storm Drain buff, well at least that's what I think. The reason for the EVs are to take special hits nicely. I admit, the current metagame is physically based. But that won't stop me from using a specially defensive Gastrodon as this Pokemon is my only answer to Latios with its extremely powerful STAB Draco Meteor other than my Jirachi which can't really take a hit. My Rachi will be explained later so let's continue. Gastrodon can also serve as a special tank with a Storm Drain boost but I don't have a Water-type attack to abuse my rain so that's kinda a downfall but still, I have a very good coverage with the two attacking moves that I included on the set. This is also my number one check to Starmie which is a pain in the ass under the rain as its STAB Hydro Pump will hurt my whole team. For other special attackers like Rotom-W, I can freely switch in as Volt Switch won't do anything. In other words, this guy can just come in on Volt-Turn strategy bar a Scizor. Well Scizor is the most common but Landorus works just fine.

Gliscor@Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Nature: Impish
~ Toxic
~ Substitute
~ Protect
~ Earthquake

This is probably the most annoying set I have ever tried (other than SubSeed Whimsicott) but the problem is that it is easily walled. The problem of my opponent is that if they don't have a proper answer to this Pokemon, especially if I manage to grab a free sub. So the plan is to sub, Toxic, sub if needed or annoy with Protect then rinse and repeat. Earthquake is pretty much a filler move. I only use it if I can't stall my opponent and they can't really hurt me at the same time, like a Scizor or Ferrothorn. So to those who want to try out this set, watch out for these Pokemon: Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Gliscor, and the uncommon Bronzong. These Pokemon wall the hell out of this Gliscor set and can just set up. So to best counter these pokemon, I suggest trying the SubCM Jirachi or a Sp. Infernape with Fire- STAB and HP Ice for Gliscor.

Jirachi@Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
~ Substitute
~ Calm Mind
~ Thunderbolt
~ Hidden Power [Ice]

Probably one of the hardest Sp. Attacker to be stopped. The only thing that the blobs will pray for is that Jirachi will never get a Crit as they can't Toxic Jirachi due to its typing and can't be T-waved because of Sub. They can't break the sub because it is 101 meaning that it will take two Seismic Tosses because it will only do 100 of damage. So to explain how it works. I used that filler 4 Def EVs as I use 30 Atk / 30 Def IVs to have HP Ice. I didn't use the 30 Spe IVs so I wouldn't lose a possible speed tie with other max speed base 100s. The rest of the EVs are kinda self-explanatory but I'll explain them. Max HP for 101 sub and max Speed to speed tie with other base 100. You can go for 252 HP / 252 Def spread if you like this to take physical hits better as it will boost the special side.

Tornadus@Flying Gem
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
~ Bulk Up
~ Acrobatics
~ Brick Break
~ Substitute

A physical Tornadus is the reason why I called this a "Fake" Rain team as I have no abusers of the actual rain. The reasons for using the Drizzle Toed will be explained later. Now this set is totally unexpected seeing that I have Toed. The thing is, most people will think that this is a Special set so they'll go to the best Special walls in the game, the annoying blobs. Well screw that. An unboosted Flying Gem Acrobatics will do 93.8%~110.6% to a standard 252/252+ Def Blissey, a sure OHKO after Stealth Rock damage. It will also do 69.6%~82.0% to a Chansey of the same spread, which will get OHKOed at +1 Atk with Bulk Up. To Ferrothorn who also walls a Special set, I will go for Substitute to block status or the Leech Seed then proceed to set up. At +2, Flying Gem Acrobatics will do 94.0% ~110.8% to a standard 252/88+ Def Ferrothorn, which is a sure 2HKO with Stealth Rock damage. This is just to show how much sweeping capabilities a Physical Tornadus can do. The only problem here is that Tornadus has a 2x SR weakness which can seriously hinder sweep as I can only set up 3 more subs before I have a tiny bit of HP.

You guys can also try a Naive Nature replacing Substitute with an appropriate Hidden Power to hit certain threats. HP fire for those pesky steel types that won't die from Brick Break. Ice for Gliscor. And Ground for Heatran who would otherwise troll at the whole set.

Politoed@Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Bold
~ Scald
~ Toxic
~ Encore
~ Protect

Like I said with Tornadus, this is just to bluff a Special Tornadus with Hurricane. I will not say much as this Pokemon's main role is just to stay there to keep weather up. The real help that this weather does is that it removes the Fire-type weakness of Jirachi and makes Forry 2x weak instead of 4x. It also helps me against other weathers as I have seen how much Venusaur can plow through my team after Chlorophyll and Growth. Landorus can also wreak havoc with Sand Force boosted attacks. I seriously just put this here as a filler Pokemon and the stated reasons above. I mean hey, this team can function without Politoed's help other than the removal of other weathers.

Well that's pretty much it. I hope you can give me a good rate.

Hi, cool team. Now, I get that you're trying to make a "fake Rain team", but there's really no reason not to run Thunder over Thunderbolt on Jirachi. Yes, you wont have 100% accuracy outside of the Rain, but most of the times, Politoed has an advantage over opposing weather inducers, and you'll have Rain up more often than not. That 60% paralysis rate thanks to Serene Grace is just more reason to go with Thunder. You may also want to run Earthquake instead of Earth Power on Gastrodon to deal with opposing SubCM Jirachi, especially if you take the last suggestion in this rate, although make sure you switch to a Sassy nature.

Now, your team doesn't exactly need Toxic Spikes, since the team's most important members are Jirachi and Tornadus, neither of whom need Toxic Spikes to function. You may as well carry regular Spikes to deal more immediate damage, especially to Steel-types. Not only will this limit the opponent's number of switch-ins, it will also allow Tornadus and Jirachi to grab some KOs they normally wouldn't be able to.

Finally, your team has issues against opposing DD Dragons, especially those that carry Earthquake, as well as SubSD Landorus. Now, Gliscor's main role on this team is to check Terrakion, so I think that a Slowbro would be a nice replacement. This allows you to keep that all important Fighting resist and Terrakion check. While the loss of a status absorber seems unappealing at first, you have to remember that Forretress and Jirachi are there to absorb Toxic, while Gastrodon can take Thunder Wave. Will-O-Wisp doesn't affect anybody on your team besides Tornadus. What Slowbro brings additionally to the table is Ice Beam. This allows Slowbro to tank a +1 Outrage from the likes of Dragonite and Salamence, or a +2 Earthquake from the likes of Landorus, and respond with an OHKO. It also has Slack Off, which is a far more reliable method for HP recovery that Protect+Toxic Orb by Gliscor.

GL
Thunder>Thunderbolt on Jirachi
pros: more power, higher paralysis rate
cons: not 100% accurate outside of Rain, but Rain will be up more often than not anyways

Earthquake>Earth Power on Gastrodon
pros: hits SubCM Jirachi harder
cons: nothing significant

Spikes>Toxic Spikes on Forretress
pros: hits more Pokes, instant damage, helps sweepers nab KOs
cons: lose out on ability to Toxic stall something with Substitute

Slowbro>Gliscor
pros: checks DD Dragons/ SubSD Landorus, has access to instant recovery
cons: can't absorb status, no Ground immunity
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature (+SpD, -Atk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover

Forretress @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature (+SpD, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Slack Off

Ahh your suggestions are quite true.

The only problem is, Slowbro would add weakness to Grass-types and I need Toxic Spikes on Forretress to help Gliscor stall. But I will replace Toxic Spikes with Spikes.

On Jirachi, I've thought about using Thunder on it before since I am using a Drizzle Toed but the thing is, the higher PP of Thunderbolt and reliable accuracy outside of Rain makes it a more viable choice. I will use that Gastrodon change for sure.

On Gliscor, I can always replace Toxic with Ice Fang or Facade to hit other Pokemon that wall me but then I cannot apply the change on Forry. For now, I will see which is better.

Hey there.

SD Scizor is a major problem for this team. It can set up a Swords Dance easily on most of your team members, and nothing on your team can take it out before Scizor finishes them off. CM Reuniclus is also a major threat, as nothing on your team can OHKO it, and its immune to hazards and can easily take hits from most of your team. Choice Specs Latios can also deal massive damage to your team with Draco Meteor, especially since Jirachi lacks a recovery move. To fix all of these issues, I suggest that you replace Forretress with a Tentacruel and switch Jirachi over to a standard specially defensive variant. Tentacruel still provides Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spin support, and works extremely well on a rain team. It can take on SD Scizor with ease, and frustrate the opposition quite easily with Rain Dish and Protect.

Tentacruel
Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Ability: Rain Dish
252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold nature
-Scald
-Toxic Spikes
-Protect
-Rapid Spin

Now, by switching Jirachi over to a specially defensive variant, you retain Stealth Rock, and can also easily take on the likes of Latios and CM Reuniclus. Jirachi can also provide Wish support for your team. The EV spread should be 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe with a Careful nature. The moveset should be Iron Head / Body Slam / Wish / Stealth Rock.

Solid team. Hope I helped, and good luck!

@ShakeitUp: I'll try the Rachi set. Mind suggesting a Sp. Offensive Pokemon in place of the lost Offensive Jirachi?

@NahimC: The Jirachi is subject for change to Sp Def Set until someone suggests a replacement on the Sp Atk department. Anyway, I traded power for reliability because I don't want to switch out just in case a Ninetales/Tyranitar switches in.
