Evasion Moves

Because they only activate like 10% of the time (brightpowder or whatever)

How is that a solid strategy? Some people (TRJesse, etc) have been known to slap them on when they don't have anything else to use.

Meanwhile, I like killing my opponent's mons instead.

There is no Evasion Clause in VGC, but no one ever thinks of using Evasion moves. Why?

In short, evasion,

Sucks.

Even in the VERY RARE occurrence you get a +6 Eva bonus, you are at 33% percent chance to be hit. First, it is EXTREMELY uncommon to get CLOSE to +6 before your pokemon is dead as a doornail. The only one that can even get minimize is Chandelure, which blows defensively as most offensive pokemon run rock or dark or ground type moves. Secondly, unlike Singles, evasion isn't so broken. You can double target any pokemon. Finally, an evasion player is a complete jerk for running a move which makes the game more of a dice roll than fun.

15 minute match time limit. If both players play quickly you might get 15 turns in. However, if your strategy involves Leftovers and Toxic you might not even get 15 turns with quick play. Spending 6 out of 15 turns Double Teaming is a lot. If you go with something like Double Team Mandibuzz with Roost you're going to waste precious turns on recovery as well. Toxic takes 6 turns to kill your opponent from full health if they can't switch. Once again, that's a huge number of turns.

Every turn you spend using an evasion move is a turn you're not doing something useful. And they'll still hit you more often than not until you get a few boosts in, especially since they can just beat up the partner while you're flailing around being useless and then have an easy time going 2v1. It's not an efficient use of actions.

Soemone (OD?) was talking about how they used an evasion-stall team at Seattle and the other guy got frustrated or something.

If you really want, you can try this at worlds (or is it nats?), where they have triple elimination matches. In single elimination, you run a greater risk of losing if you are unlucky - there is no second and third game for you to win. Kind of like the same reason you don't want to use any moves with shitty accuracy in the VGC bar rock slide and draco meteor(or, for an example that may be better, why nobody ever uses moves with less accuracy than 95 in the battle tower). Basically, it's an unreliable method of victory.

Plus, as others have noted, if you have the time to DT, why don't you have the time to attack?

On a side note, assuming single attacking (yes, I realize this is not always relevant), Protect is better for the first two turns.

I ran a silly team on PO where Chandelure, with Bright Powder, would use Minimize thrice, while Amoongus drew in the attacks. As soon as Amoongus went down, Cobalion (Terrakion, any fast attacker) would come in and use Psych Up on Chandelure to copy the evasion boosts. Then they attack.

It worked a few times, against some quality players even, but it was just too inconsistent. If people caught on, they'd end it pretty quickly. It helps that Rock Slide has poor accuracy to begin with, but you'd be surprised at how often you get hit with max evasion.

One of the main reasons is that evasion is entirely luck based, and people generally don't like leaving their fate up to chance.

Another problem is that evasion leads to incredibly long and drawn out battles. I had a battle with Omega Donut on PO that last 88 turns because I was using Double Team Mandibuzz and Heal Pulse Alomamola. Imagine that at an actual event, the match would last over an hour.

Fixed that.

Evasion is too long and you only have 15 minutes...so if you sit there just using evasion moves the whole time you're pretty much just stalling and your time will just run out.

I don't understand why people are still answering this. The question has been more than thoroughly answered and most of the people posting now are only repeating the same points. This topic was crap to read after about 3 or 4 posts in.
