DUSTOX??!!

Yep. Dustox actually is useable in Gen 5, thanks to the wonders of Quiver Dance. Set Below---

Dustox (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Shield Dust
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SAtk / 96 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk),
- Quiver Dance
- Roost -
- Bug Buzz -
- Energy Ball/Psychic/Shadow Ball -

The key to this set is the surprising bulk Dustox has, especially on the special side and shored up by crucial resistances on the physical side. Even in LU/RU I find Dustox can shake off a variety of neutral hits and recover the damage off with Roost. Of course this set needs team support, as do all pokemon, for example a bulky water-type, especially one with a secondary ground typing can absorb Rock, Fire and Ground attacks aimed at Dustox with impunity, while Dustox laughs at the grass attacks fired back as it 4x resists them. With a bulky water/ground, the only real threat to Dustox left are psychic pokemon, and the occasional Zen Headbutt. However if already set up Dustox typically can take psychics out as Bug Buzz is surprisingly powerful at +2 or +3. I haven't tested this in higher tiers but I wouldn't reccomend it, as there are other Quiver Dancers with access to sleep powder in those tiers. Generally Dustox does best in the lower tiers, yet is still a capable pokemon that i'd highly reccomend.
Oh, and buckets of surprise value ;)

Good Luck!

angrylemming is a limi alt????

anyway, Dustox is pretty much completely outclassed by Butterfree, Mothim, and Masquerain, as despite him being bulkier, his bulk is still pretty meh and he is much weaker, which is much more important for an offensive set. The only thing he has over them is shield dust which is pretty situational and for an offensive Pokemon Tinted Lens/Compoundeyes is a much better fit, or possessing Baton Pass in Mothim's case. Most of the time, you would be better off using the aforementioned other bugs if going for a Quiver Dance set.

Aha, but the problem with the other bugs are their weaknesses to common attacking types and how easy to 1-hit KO they are. Dustox is more of a bulky set-up sweeper. Just try it out, trust me.

60/70/90 defenses is not bulky :|
I agree its severely outclassed. Its not gonna do anything unless you completely catch your opponent off guard.

hm. I know everyone is very set in their ways here (Golduck is good! Just everybody hates it.) But at least try the thing before discarding it at all.

I think Dustox might actually come to appreciate its Shield Dust ability, which would be good if not for its awful, awful distribution. Locking out things like burns from Scald and paralysis from Body Slam? Yes, please.

Yeah I have tried it actually. It's terrible, plain and simple. No offense outside of Toxic, still slow and weak after Quiver Dance, etc.

If you want a gimmicky Bug Pokemon that actually works, use Masquerain. It has Intimidate, 4x resists Fighting too (takes <10% from a Sawk CC) and has a Ground immunity, can actually do some damage after a Quiver Dance, and can even Baton Pass out its boosts once it gets in trouble.

It isn't that everyone is "set in our ways", it's just that there's no reason to use a terrible Pokemon over a better one. This thread isn't going anywhere, sorry.
