[Overview]

Durant may be small, but that doesnt mean hes useless! With one of the highest Speed stats in the RU tier, and a combination of already high Attack and Hustle, an ability that boosts the power of Durants's attacks in exchange for a small amount of accuracy, Durant can devastate a team once it enters the battlefield. While Durant's movepool is small, it has everything that it needs. Including Hone Claws, which boosts Durant's attack and Accuracy at the same time, essentially bringing Durants's Accuracy back to normal. On top of all this, Durant's Steel-typing grants it many resistances to set up on, and allows it to take most priority such as Honchkrow and Absol's Sucker Punch rather easily. Durant may seem like an unstoppable wrecking ball, but this is far from the truth. Durant's special defense is in short terrible, meaning it will rarely ever take a special hit and live to tell the tale, it also has a poor base 58 Hp, severely undermining its hit taking abilities. To top it off Durant's movepool is very small, and it lacks gems like Earthquake to hit bulky Steel-Types super effectively. All in all, durant is an incredible Pokemon, and shows that size is not all that counts.

[SET]
name: Hone Claws
move 1: Hone Claws
move 2: X-Scissor
move 3: Iron Head
move 4: Baton Pass / Rock Slide
item: Life Orb / Lum Berry
ability: Hustle
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This has been Durant's flagship set ever since its introduction, with a combination of Hustle, which boosts the power of attacks in exchange for accuracy, and Hone Claws, which raises accuracy back to normal while boosting attack further. along with a very high base 109 speed, and its easy to see why Durant strikes fear into the hearts of most players. After a Hone Claws boost, Durant's can 2HKO even Pokemon that resist its attacks, such as Klinklang, rather easily. X-Scissor and Iron Head are Durant's STABS, and both have different purposes. X-scissor maims Psychic-types such as Mesprit and Slowking in one chop. Iron Head hits Aggron, along with things such as Regirock who can take an X-scissor, it also has a handy 30% flinch chance. Baton Pass is a very useful move on Durant, escaping trappers such as Magneton and Wynaut, while also passing any boosts that Durant has to the next Pokemon, most likely one that can check Durant's counters. If you dont feel you need to use Baton Pass to escape Durant's counters and keep momentum, then the best option to use Rock Slide to knock Moltres out of the sky, as well as KO Entei, Who both resist Durant's STABS.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

If using Baton Pass on Durant, it is a good idea to carry good recipients of the Hone Claws boost, while also being able to beat Durant's checks. Entei is one of the better recipients, benefitting from the power boost of Hone Claws, while also being able to power through Durant's counters such as Steelix and Magneton rather easily. If you want to use Durant on a full BP team, Durant can run a spread with 252 HP evs, to pass Hone Claws to other Pokemon on your team, Durant also has access to Agility, and can replace a coverage move with it, but this is inadviseable as Durant will rarely find time to use both unless passed a Substitute. Durant likes entry hazards on its side to gain certain koes on bulkier opponents. Life Orb is the main item on this set for the extra power it provides to Durant, but a Lum berry can be used to avoid troublesome status such as Burn and Paralysis that would usually cripple Durant as it sets up.
  • a spread with max hp and leftovers is viable on a full baton pass team
  • likes dual screens and magneton to trap things such as steelix
  • loves entry hazards on its side
  • Stone Edge can be used over Rock Slide if you like to miss
  • thunder fang is also an option to hit bulky waters, but slowking is wesak to x-scissor anyway and lanturn is immune
  • likes pokemon that can clean up after durant goes down
  • absol and feraligatr are good partners for breaking down durant's checks

[SET]
name: All Out Attacker
move 1: Iron Head
move 2: X-scissor
move 3: Stone Edge / Rock Slide
move 4: Crunch / Baton Pass
item: Choice Band / Life Orb
ability: Hustle
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Koes almost everything with the right move
  • iron Head and x-scissor are reliabel STAB
  • Stone edge hits fire types, rock slide loses power but is way more reliable with hustle
  • crunch hits bulky ghosts such as dusknoir and cofagrigus,
    • baton pass can be used to gain momentum and scout for counters
      • i honestly need more for this, its so simple x_x

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • this set is more of a wallbreaker, use it to break down walls for your sweepers
  • life orb can be used, but you lose out no a lot of power
  • entry hazard support allows durant crucial Koes, especially spikes
  • feraligatr works well with durant, breaking steelix while durant takes down tangrowth
  • sceptile can take down bulky waters for durant, but slowking is already weak to x-scissor
  • cofagrigus can spinblock for durant while taking advantage of the walls durant weakens with its trick room sety
  • stall's worst enemy due to sheer power and tspikes immunity

[Other Options]
  • dig
  • substitute
  • crunch on the hone claws set
  • full baton pass set
  • rock polish
  • agility
  • metal sound? idk
    entrainment

[Checks and Counters]

  • Cofagrigus is a one-time check, removing hustle with mummy and burning it
  • qwilfish cant do much back, but its a solid check
  • steelix is a fullstiop to durant
  • magneton counters it as well, volt switching if durant baton passes to gain momentum
  • scarfed pokemon with powerful special attacks
  • paralysis cripples non lum varients
  • aerodactyl cant switch in but does a solid chunck with stone edge
  • sceptile can use Hp fire on it, but loses coverage vs moltres, or it can use focus miss
  • hard to counter with its sheer power
  • feraligatr can take an iron head or an unboosted x-scissor and dent it with aqua jet i guess
    Poliwrath counters everything
/me is hard pressed to find counter

[Dream World]

Durants's hidden ability is truant, which is terrible and has no use

have very little experience in the tier, but any special attacker in the RU who has base speed of 110 or more are decent checks at least. the lack of priority move (such as scizor's bp) hurts him.

Btw, with that power and ability, he seems to be a good revenge killer using scarf. you can add that as a main set or as an option.

I like the idea of just slashing Baton Pass on the Hone Claws and the Choice Band set. I've ran both of those sets with Baton Pass and I can risk saying they work even better with it. I also like the Skeleton. Also, mention in the Dream World part of the post that Truant can be used with Entrainment, but it's a gimmicky option.

Yeah, replace Stone Edge with Rock Slide on the HC set. Also add Poliwrath to counters since it resists everything except Thunder Fang.

Entrainment isn't even worth mentioning since Dugtrio is OU now.

QC APPROVED 3/3

EDIT: On the CB set, name some specific, important KOs that Durant gets with CB but not with LO. That's the most important thing to include for a set like this, because otherwise I (the reader) have no idea why I should use this set instead of the first one.

But there's still this to use alongside Truant Durant with Entrainment once it's released.

poliwrath can be 2HKOed by a CB iron hesad after SR +lefties 712 Atk vs 226 Def & 284 HP (80 Base Power): 135 - 159 (47.54% - 55.99%)

LO cannot do this 475 Atk vs 226 Def & 284 HP (80 Base Power): 117 - 138 (41.20% - 48.59%)

ill see if i can find more
