DPPt In-Game Tier List Thread v2

From my brief research, the best strategy seems to be leveling it up to 100 Friendship, then spamming X items against passive wild Pokemon to 200, then leveling up to 220. This sounds a bit onerous and expensive, but having Umbreon online by Wake if not Fantina sounds important for information completeness. I won't know the practicality of this approach for sure until I test.
My run is still ongoing, but I've executed the strategy and want to share my results ASAP. Turns out you can only buy X items from Veilstone Dept Store, so I played Eevee as normal until that point. After training it up some while holding Soothe Bell to test against Rival 3, it entered Veilstone at 139 Friendship.
  • I bought 30 each of X Special, X Sp. Def, and X Speed, the cheapest at 350 per. This is affordable with the various sell items and/or Amulet Coin use.
  • I fished up a Magikarp at the pond just south of Veilstone, used six of each X item I bought on top of the six or so I incidentally picked up playing normally, then ran away once maxed out.
  • In hindsight, I should have just switched to reset the boosts. That would save a lot of time from getting unlucky from failed fishing.
  • In four battles, I had reached 200 Friendship, the max you can reach using X items. It's indicated by two hearts in the Friendship Checker app.
  • Note that Soothe Bell increases Friendship gains by 50% rounded down. This means that +1 activities such as walking and X item use do not get any boost.
  • This X item process took around 17 minutes of real time with battle animations off and touch screen navigation. With switching instead of running and better fishing luck, this could easily take 15 minutes or less.
  • This gave me Umbreon at level 31, a reasonable level before even facing Maylene. My overworld navigation was accelerated in some areas and back-and-forth in others, so I think my walking Friendship gains were in the ballpark of a casual run.
  • I got one massage, used two vitamins, and fainted twice for other FS modifiers.
I personally think this method, while not a game-changer that would cause tier shifts, is a worthwhile strategy for getting FS evos faster. It would be worth mentioning for certain Pokemon entries as a way for casual players to get their payoff a bit sooner, especially Espeon and Chimecho, which have an advantage over Maylene. If I didn't use this method, I think getting the evolution by even Wake under efficient play would have been an issue. 15 minutes is comparable to a brief grinding session you'd undertake if you're worried about the upcoming boss. Someone could easily do it while watching TV and have their evo much sooner, possibly saving 15 minutes of hassle in the long term.

Recently doing a new Platinum run, and I'm gonna attempt that Secret Key exploit on that run if possible. In the meantime, I'm still gonna dump all the Platinum logs that I've been saving, and this one consist of Geodude(No Trade), Wormadam-Trash, Gastly (No Trade), and Tangela (I forgot the "exact" Nature on them, but I know its all neutral nature)

D Tier. On this run, I was struggling to pick which mon should I run next, as I've already done the majority of current As, Bs, and Cs. Then, Volt suggested me to used WormaTrash, thus I decided to used it. It is great in the early-game, then its irrelevant past that. Its defensive-typing felt honestly overrated. Sure, it technically has no weaknesses because Sinnoh has almost no Fire-type, but it doesn't make WormaTrash invincible or anything. When I read "Bug/Steel is the best defensive type", I interpreted it as it resisted a lot of stuff, which only happened in the early-game. Past Fantina, it doesn't really resist enough, it felted kinda little. You could argue E Tier because honey trees really sucks, but its early-game performance is enough to ranked it as D Tier personally.

D Tier, with a chance of C Tier. Pre-Shadow Ball phase is... not great. There were cases where Night Shade doesn't even 2HKO stuff on route, which is pretty bad given how frail this mon is and Ghost/Poison typing doesn't give you enough resistances. It was pretty bad into Jupiter section, bc every Grunt just beats Gastly besides Stunky. It does get a huge powerspike when it reaches Level 33, but it flops in the late-game to the point it resorts to just using Destiny Bond into something there, especially in the last three fights.

Tangrowth L52 @ Rose Incense / Choice Specs
Solarbeam 2HKOs Gliscor and 1HKOs the rest. Sun ends by the time Rhyperior comes in. Hippowdon comes in last, which you have to set sun again.
Choice Specs Giga Drain puts Hippowdon in red and is super close to 2HKOing Gliscor, the rest are 1HKOed. You're likely ran out of Giga Drain PP unless you reliably 2HKO Gliscor

At Level 54
Rose Incense Power Whip 2HKOs Gliscor(doesn't w/o RI), and 1HKOs the rest bar Hippowdon, who is close to 1HKOing

Beats 4. You need to dodge a Megahorn from Rhyperior to sweep with SunnyBeam. . Can sweep with Power Whip

Tangrowth L52 @ Earth Plate
After a Flare Blitz recoil, Earth Plate Earthquake KOs Rapidash and is close to KOing Infernape. They both 2HKO back(1HKO if sun is up), the rest outspeeds and 1HKOs back. Rapidash may go for Sunny Day T1, in which Earth Plate Earthquake alone only puts in in red. Houndoom doesn't go for Sunny Day.

Beats 1. Could beat more if you set-up SD on Rapidash as it went for Sunny Day, but that requires luck and it being faster during sun than Infernape.

Tangrowth L52 @ Rose Incense

At Level 54
Rose Insence Power Whip 2HKOs Mime and is close to 2HKOing Espeo under Reflect, and it 1HKOs Zam, 2HKOs Gallade

Beats 1. Needs 1 heal to beat 2 with Power Whip

Tangrowth L53 @ Rose Incense
Rose Incense Solarbeam 2HKOs Tomb, 3HKOs Garchomp. Tomb 2HKOs back, Chomp almost 1HKOs back, Milotic outspeeds and 1HKOs back

At Level 54
Rose Incense Power Whip 2HKOs Tomb

Beats 1 with Power Whip
D Tier, with a strong chance of C Tier. The D Tier nomination is for how annoying it is to catch Tangela. Sure its a 25% encounter, but its a Safari Zone mon, which it can flee, and has the lowest catch rate of 45. Just for comparison, Quagsire and Noctowl had 90, Bibarel had 127, then the rest (including Carnivine and Tropius) had around 200. Not to mention, it needs Chlorophyll, which only 50% of the Tangelas had. If you focus more onto how it fared into battle, then yes, its a C Tier mon.
