D/P Lopuny

Was asked to re-do the entire Lopunny analysis by Phuq. Credit goes to KD24 for his Baton Bunny set and his help with pre-editting. I took the original CB set and Switcheroo set and changed a few things. I've also added a set of my own; SupPunching

[SET]
Name: Switcheroo
Move 1: Switcheroo
Move 2: Toxic
Move 3: Magic Coat / Charm
Move 4: Fire Punch / Return / Healing Wish
Item: Choice Scarf / Lagging Tail
Ability: Klutz
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

UU is full of “Tricky” pokemon who can cripple unprepared teams. Lopunny surpasses other Trickers, however, with its Klutz ability erasing the effects of Choiced items or the negative speed of Lagging Tail. With Klutz, you can choose your Switcheroo target by waiting until a counter or a Pokemon that wouldn’t want the obstruction of a Choice Scarf comes in. The rest of the set is a standard support set. Toxic allows you to wear down threats after you have Switcherooed your item and hit them on the switch. Magic Coat keeps Lopunny free of status while in play and is a great support move in general but be careful about switching her into status as she isn't immune. Charm is a good support move keeping healthy Lopunny against Physical attackers. Fire Punch hits Steel-types immune to Toxic along with pesky ghosts, while Return is a good STAB attack to hit anything staying in long enough to outlast Toxic. Healing Wish is always an option letting you help your team set-up for a sweep.

As for the item, any of the Choiced items can be used but the safest option is usually Choice Scarf. Choiced Scarf isn’t as intimidating as staring down a Choice Banded or Speced counter and Switcherooing the Speed can utterly mess up bulky walls. Lagging Tail is a good option basically giving you a pseudo-paralysis along with stripping the enemy of their item. With Klutz, Lopunny isn’t gaining anything helpful so it is really up to personal preference.

[SET]
Name: Baton Bunny
Move 1: Return
Move 2: Baton Pass
Move 3: Encore
Move 4: Agility / Substitute
Item: Starf Berry / Liechi Berry / Petaya Berry
Ability: Cute Charm
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With a Base 105 Speed and access to Encore, Lopunny makes a brilliant Baton Passer. Unlike the previous sets, this one revolves around helping your teammates instead of messing with the opponent's gameplan.

The plan is to switch into a Pokemon that is using a support move such as Stealth Rock or a weak attack such as Rapid Spin. If you can switch Lopunny into a Ghost-type using Shadow Ball, you could really make a big play. Simply Encore them, forcing them to continue using that move. This will likely cause a switch giving you time to use Agility. Then Baton Pass to a slow but strong Pokemon and hopefully sweep. Substitute can be used in place of Agility as not only can it be passed, but it can also activate Starf Berry. If Lopunny falls victim to Taunt, Return is there to ensure you can still hit an opponent.

If you are confident that Lopunny can take a hit, you can use Agility over Substitute. Hopefully, you will have your Speed increased +2 as well as have another stat increased once Starf Berry kicks in. However, Substitute can safely activate the Berry boost, as well as give a Baton Pass recipient a small shield to hide behind.

You must use Cute Charm as the ability as Klutz will negate Starf Berry. Cute Charm also could give you another chance to Agility if the opponent becomes immobilized by love.

[SET]
Name: SubPuncher
Move 1: Focus Punch
Move 2: Substitute
Move 3: Thunder Wave / Fire Punch
Move 4: Baton Pass
Item: Leftovers / Liechi Berry
Ability: Cute Charm
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spe / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This set can become very frustrating to play against with a little luck. The set revolves around passing subs to Lopunny’s teammates to help set-up for other Pokemon or getting a free switch-in. With Cute Charm’s infatuation and Paralysis support from Thunder Wave, it shouldn’t be all that hard to get your Sub up. If you are in a tight situation you can either Focus Punch to deal a good amount of damage or Baton Pass the sub off to a teammate. Fire Punch is mentioned so that you can hit incoming Ghosts, especially Froslass. Liechi Berry is an option as you can sub down to its activation range and either pass it or use it for your own punches.

[SET]
Name: Choice Band
Move 1: Switcheroo
Move 2: Return
Move 3: Fire Punch / Ice Punch
Move 4: Focus Punch / Low Kick
Item Choice Band
Ability: Cute Charm
Nature: Jolly / Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This set attempts to give Lopunny some much-needed offense while still having some of the potency of Switcheroo (take note of Cute Charm!). Return, again, is a strong STAB move for the little bunny. Fire Punch is there to hit incoming ghosts as everything else is resisted. Ice Punch is another decent option hitting mainly Altaria and Driflim. Lopunny encourages a lot of switches from people who fear Choice tricking, so Focus Punch could work well. But if you aren’t so keen about a dry Focus Punch, Sky Uppercut is a suitable replacement.

[Other Options]

Lopunny learns Fling, which could work with Klutz/Iron Ball for a powerful Dark attack; Iron Ball is a possible item to use with Switcheroo as well. Lopunny also has a deep movepool in the support department; take your pick of Captivate, Charm, Mirror Coat, Rain Dance, Swagger just to name a few. You can mix and match any of the above options to any of the sets to your liking. A lot of the support moves work well on the Baton Pass set screwing up potential counters and causing lots of switches which allow you to Sub or stat up.

[Opinion]

Lopunny has some handy options, but don't expect it to do a lot on the offensive side, unless you outfit it with Choice Band or use the SubPunching set. Try to keep your opponent guessing. Often times, opponents may be overly cautious concerning Switcheroo giving you time to set-up and punish them if they mispredict your set.

[EVs]

Most of the sets use 252 Speed along with a boosting nature to out speed most Base 100 Pokemon and tie with opposing Scythers and Manectrics. From there, maxing HP isn’t a bad option giving her a bit more bulkiness. You can max Attack as well if you want a pure attacking set like the Choice Band one.

[Counters]

Choice tricking is best combated by a mixed attacker, who doesn't mind receiving any Choice item—The Nidos in particular can be hazardous to Lopunny being immune to Toxic, being fairly bulky and not caring to much about getting a Choiced Item. Sharpedo can also be dangerous as it is often mixed and doesn’t mind taking a Choiced Item, just be careful about switching it into the Choice Band or SubPunch sets. Steels will wall the Choice Band set to an extent and do fairly well against the SubPunch sets, but need to be careful about getting Switcherooed on making them obsolete. Once the Choice threat is gone, any decent physical threat will hurt it substantially.

I'm thinking Petaya and Liechi Berry could deserve a mention on the Baton Bunny set, it would depend what you are Baton Passing to.

Should Shadow Ball really be mentioned on the Sub punch set? It doesn't do too much damage to Rotom (neutral nature Shadow Ball does 29.61% - 34.87% to max HP Rotom) and is really walled badly by the Bulky Psychics.

Fake Out needs a mention somewhere.

ya its defiantly not the best option, but it does allow you to hit ghosts. Personally I use T-Wave; I will probably end up removing it in the end.

Which set would Fake Out make sense on? I know its a good move, but really it doesn't help out on any of the sets. It would just take up a moveslot.

I guess either the Choice Band set to finish off some Pokemon, or at least have a mention in Other Options.

Should take out "basically" since Klutz does erase the effects of items, it doesnt basically erase them.
Misspelled "Switcheroo".
Put "you" instead of "your"

The way you had the first sentence implies that Lopunny is switching in and using a support move, and i fixed it so it is clear that the support move is being used by the Pokemon you are switching into.

Switcheroo was misspelled.

I found a few misspellings, and some misunderstandings.
Also, the sets that I could find no problem with were not included in the quote.

Move 4: Fire Punch / Return / Healing Wish
Item: Choice Scarf / Lagging Tail

You don't need to capitalize the tags for Move 1, Move 2, etc. I don't why everyone has started doing that. There is a copyable version of the format in the sticky. It will save you time in future. Speed is written as "Spe", not "Spd". I would just max out Speed and use Jolly, so you can tie with Scyther and Manectric.

Changed a few formatting errors (the parts in bold). Sky Uppercut is better for UU Steels. Fire Punch does barely anything to Probopass and Aggron. The part about Magic Coat is a bit misleading. It doesn't stop Lopunny being statused when it switches in. That needs clarifying and the merits of Charm also need explaining.

[SET]
Name: SubPuncher
Move 1: Focus Punch

Move 3: Thunder Wave / Shadow Ball
Move 4: Baton Pass
Item: Leftovers

Can't see enough merit in using Adamant, especially when you have barely any EVs in Attack. Jolly means you can BP out against more opponents. I would max Speed too. Shadow Ball is very poor with that terrible Special Attack. Max Speed again. Fire Punch is better as a secondary attack, since it hits Froslass and Scyther, or Ice Punch if you prefer to hit Drifblim harder.

Return does more to the vast majority of Grounds and Grasses than Ice Punch. Focus Punch/Sky Uppercut is better for stopping Steels than Fire Punch. However, Fire Punch stops Froslass coming in for free, so it should be the primary option in the third slot. All you really need Ice Punch for in UU is Altaria and Drifblim.

K I'll add that stuff in. KD's set wasn't mine so I'll just edit the few things in. Set wise, how should I order them?

EDIT: Changed some stuff, theres a bit more I need to do, but it's late and I'm not thinking all that straight. Will take a crack at it tomorrow.

if you brave/stupid enough to be using lopunny in OU you might wanna try low kick which will almost always OHKO T-tar with at least a blackbelt/fist plate/expert belt boost and will always OHKO with a life orb or choice band its also its best option against steelix in UU if your not using focus punch

Looking at the UU targets for a Fighting move, Low Kick seems much better than Sky Uppercut. More accurate too.

120 BP
- Aggron
- Glalie
- Golem
- Lapras
- Probopass
- Steelix

100 BP
- Bastiodon
- Cloyster
- Lunatone
- Solrock
- Walrein

Seems that only Relicanth (40 BP), Sudowoodo, Omastar, and Kabutops (60 BP) take less from Low Kick than they do from Sky Uppercut.

In the first set:

Magic Coat keeps Lopunny free of status while in play and is a great support move in general but be careful about switching her into status as she isn't immune. I'm not really sure what that sentence is trying to say but I'm pretty sure it's a typo.

I'm not really sure what that sentence is trying to say but I'm pretty sure it's a typo.

ya sorry about that; kinda feel asleep while I was editing the sets. I'll fix that.

I'll also change the Fighting move to Low Kick

Perhaps some mention of the Sticky Hold pokemon (Muk, Gastradon, Swalot) in the counters section?

Muk and Swalot are both immune to Toxic rendering the Switcheroo set particularly useless.

You'll need to change the description to fit Low Kick by the way.
Lopunny encourages a lot of switches from people who fear Choice tricking, so Focus Punch could work well. But if you aren’t so keen about a dry Focus Punch, Sky Uppercut is a suitable replacement.

In the EVs section:
Most of the sets use 252 Speed along with a boosting nature to out speed most Base 100 Pokemon and tie with opposing Scythers and Manectrics.
I think "all" should replace "most" and it could be "Most of the sets use 252 Speed along with a boosting nature to out speed all Base 100 speed Pokemon and tie with opposing Scythers and Manectrics (as long as they are without a Choice Scarf)." It's not most because you're always going to initially outspeed them.

Also, most Ghosts are counters to Lopunny, as they can for the most part wall her. Rotom comes to mind as it doesn't mind Choice (Item) and can just Trick them off later. It's immune to Return and most of the Subpunch set and easily cripples using a status move and Tricking a move.

Perhaps some mention of the Sticky Hold pokemon (Muk, Gastradon, Swalot) in the counters section?

Good point, will add

@Juuka: Everything you said was right, I'll also change that.

Currently, I'm about to leave on vacation and will try and edit this stuff in about 2-3 days. You guys are more than welcome to continue to comment on it, but I just won't be as speedy about getting up edits. :)
