Delcatty Discussion ~ It needed an Evolution.

Ok, this thread will probably never make it anywhere but I must still try.
I was reluctant to do this, but Delcatty does get useful support moves.

Delcatty #301

Click it to see the dex page.

Stats:
70 - HP
65 - Atk
65 - Def
55 - Sp. Atk
55 - Sp. Def
70 - Speed

Mediocre all around.

Traits:
Normalize - All of Delcatty's attacks are Normal-type instead of their usual type.

Normalize is like an Adaptability that works for every attack. It basically gets rid of type-coverage.

Cute Charm - 30% of infatuating an attacker of the opposite gender if Delcatty is attacked physically.

Cute Charm is near useless, but a choice none-the-less.

Her two traits are quite a toss up. Normalize is interesting because it basically gives her STAB on all of her attack moves but steels or rocks with decent defenses will make quick work of her, as will any ghost(doubt Normalize would be forgiving). She's most likely going to the lower-UU tier, or maybe even NU, sadly. Will she have to deal with Aggron or Probopass, who knows?

Now, let's look at her gigantic movepool.

Physical - Important ones

Zen Headbutt
Sucker Punch
Last Resort
Wake-Up Slap
Double-Edge
Return
Fake Out
Iron Tail
Payback
Covet
Fake Out

Return can be used without the trait Normalize, so can Wake-Up Slap, which might ruin Sleep Talk abusers. Iron Tail has crappy accuracy, but if you're going the physical path..

Special - This is where it gets interesting.

Ice Beam(Blizzard)
Thunder(bolt)
Grass Knot
Charge Beam
Solarbeam
Water Pulse
Hidden Power
Shadow Ball

Naturally, normal types learn a huge array of these.

Support - Get ready to be overwhelmed.

Heal Bell
Wish
Fake Tears
Baton Pass
Tickle
Calm Mind
Charm
Assist
Sing
Helping Hand
Psych Up
Thunder Wave
Sweet Kiss (XD)

One of the few Calm Mind boltbeamers, interesting. It also gets the cleric's dream list of skills here, Wish and Heal Bell.

Move Tutor

Body Slam
Mimic

Let's move on to movesets:

Trait options are up to the user, if you want STAB but less overall type coverage, choose Normalize.

Cleric
@Leftovers
- Wish
- Heal Bell
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

Since it gets the options, why not. Thunder Wave helps it potentially outspeed would-be counters while Sing completely shuts them down for a turn or two.

Calm Mind
@Leftovers
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Wish / Sing

Calm Mind boosts it's terrible Special stats. Sing is almost always unreliable as a status move, but still there.

Baton Passer
@Leftovers
- Baton Pass
- Wish
- Thunderbolt / Ice Beam
- Calm Mind

No Agility hurts, but the only worthy thing it is capable of passing are Calm Minds. Wish or Heal Bell can be used to provide team healing as well, but you must give up an attack slot for the latter.

Special Attacking
@Choice Specs
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Water Pulse is almost useless since Ice or Grass already hits ground and rock hardest. Hidden Power [Ground] is also an option. As is Shadow Ball.

Discuss this house cat. And don't be afraid to point out any mistakes either.

This thread is incredibly decent compared to how horrible Delcatty is. I'd use Thunderbolt/Ice Beam over Return with Normalize on the CMPass set so it can take advantage of its boosts.

By the way, here is the hierarchy of mixed Normals: Delcatty is a bad Wigglytuff is a wannabe Dunsparce is a poor man's Clefable is a watered down Blissey.

I also find that set to be the best. At first, I thought Normalize was useless but that I think about it, it's actually pretty good.

Delcatty has such a great movepool but mediocre stats. =/ Shame.

With Normalize, I believe Thunder Wave can hit through Ground / Electric types since it would be a Normal move. Thunder Wave could actually be a decent option

That doesnt make sense. Blissey is more a tank, Clefable is Ms. Unpredictability, Dunsparce is a haxer, Wigglytuff is just a fatso and Delcatty is a cleric for NU's. All different things so no comparability.

Ah, Delcatty. Used to be my favorite Pokemon in RSE, because I was hoping that in D/P, it would miraculously get a huge upgrade that made it usable. But alas... It didn't. Delcatty is even more unusable in D/P than it was in RSE with the new, more offensive direction of the game. It's too slow to even make use of Focus Sash, because it will probably die before it even gets to launch its second attack. Gamefreak had a chance to make Delcatty decent by giving it a good new ability, but instead they gave it Normalize. So now, Delcatty is doomed to NU... forever.

Not that it bothers me anymore, since I discovered the Life Orb Purugly set. Purugly is my new pet kitty. ^_^ Fast Hypnosis FTW.

It's too bad it can't learn Quick Attack and Endeavor. Then it could have a novelty set.

Perhaps the third game to D/P will come with a move tutor that will teach Delcatty those moves. Seems possible, Endeavor kinda seems like a move that you would learn from a tutor, and even if it doesn't get Quick Attack, it could just use Sucker Punch. At least then, it would be able to do SOMETHING.

I really hope that do-re-me girl doesn't arrive, she scares me.
Always use thunderwave with normalize - Delcatty is essentially the only poke with a 100% paralyze move that hits grounds, lanturns and vires. Maybe use toxic as well? :/ Hits steels and poisons, and delcatty really needs to use every advantage it can get.

From what I've heard, Steels and Poisons are still immune to Toxic.

Also, I'd rather paralyze something like Gengar or Mismagius than ground types, which are usually already slow. Cute Charm is the better trait, IMO, which just goes to show how much Normalize sucks. Delcatty should've gotten Adaptability.

Oh, and for the record, I actually like Do-re-me. XD

SKITTY, ASSIST! (haha best line from new pokemon.)

Delcatty is a pretty neat pokemon. If you want a double-status, you could do Sing / Thunder Wave / HYPER BEAM / Calm Mind.

No one would see it coming, the cute little kitty BLAST A FREAKISHLY HUGE LASER at unsuspecting pokemon. Sing for the switch, free CM and HYPER BEAMzor away.

If anything, Glaceon should have gotten Adaptability. . .

Someone needs to test Normalize if this hasn't been done already.

Lmao, hilarious set. But you know what? I might just try it for the lol. Chance of it actually working, though, is like, 15%. I doubt that a CM Hyper beam would KO whatever switched in. Poor Delcatty... I wish it was better.

The only good news comes in the form of non-damaging attacks becoming Normal as well, since Thunder Wave will work on Ground Pokenom and probably Pokemon that absorb Electric attacks as well; Steels and probably Poison appear to still be immune to Normal-typed Toxic, though.
From the dp research topic. I want to know if Hidden Power's type remains unchanged from Normalize because Hidden Power is variable.

Also, some of my sets are odd. im going to fix them up in a while.

Toxic does not effect Steels, period.

What about this?

Toxistaller
252HP/252Def/6att
@Leftovers
- Toxic
- Wish
- Substitute
- Sucker Punch

Max HP is divisible by four, could be useful in a pinch. Dies to Sandstorm in OU, but doesn't belong there anyway. If you sense trouble, heal something else.

Have you tested it?

Some of Smogon's researchers have tested it and Toxic does not affect Steel types; however, after Normalize, Thunder Wave did affect Ground types.

One thing kind of worries me- while I really like the movesets listed, wouldn't going with Normalize over Cute Charm mean Delcatty will be completely and utterly walled by any Ghost-type, nomatter what? (I doubt it would last long enough to struggle).

For that reason alone, I agree that Delcatty is doomed to NU. Great moves available to it, but its traits either rely on A) Your opponent having no Ghost types, or B) Your opponent using a contact move and being of the opposite gender. Lame.

Don't forget Assist could be one of the coolest moves in the game. xD

You know... you're right. Why not Assist? It is Delcatty's signature move or w/e lol. Why not? Though, just a question, with Assist, are the attacks used still affected by Normalize? Because that could be interesting. It could go in a Fun Team :)

And if you think about it, Assist is like... the only good move it has. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but yeah... if you think about it... what else does it have that's good? Other than T-wave and those other moves. Lol.

If you assist stealth rock, are the rocks normal type? Because that would make it stand out just a bit more.

No, I don't believe so. Though why would you want that in the first place? Normal isn't super-effective against anything, and if Stealth Rock does type damage. >.> Well... it'll always only be taking 1/8 health.
