Battle Spot Cursetar in the sandbox

Introduction:
This is a team I created with the intentions to use in the triple battle section of the battle spot. This is my second competitive team. My first was a hail team so I decided to try another weather team. It takes some setting up for the most part, but once everything is ready it can hold up pretty well against other opponents. Here it goes.

My Team

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar
@ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
HP: 248, Def: 80, SpDef: 180
Relaxed nature
Curse
Stone Edge
Rest
Sleep Talk

Cursetar is my lead. I throw him out to the left side to avoid taking too much damage while I try to set up at least two curses before having to rest if need be. With the boosted special defense from the sand storm and added defense boost from curse he can take a hit pretty well. And with rest and sleep talk he can stay in the battle for a long time. Since I wanted him to stay on the slower side to be able to get the sandstorm going I didn't invest any ev's into speed. Thus making curse a perfect choice for her.

blissey.gif

Blissey@ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
HP: 252, Def: 252, SpDef: 4
Bold nature
Toxic
Seismic Toss
Soft-Boiled
Protect

As everyone already know Blissey is the best wall in the game. I don't throw her out right away because I like to switch her in after I do something with another pokemon on my team first. Having toxic on her is a bonus on helping me wear away at walls on the opposing team. And she helps by stalling the battle as long as possible so I can take advantage of the sandstorm and other effects that I have set up.

ferrothorn.gif

Ferrothorn@ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
HP: 252, Atk: 172, Def: 84
Brave nature
Leech Seed
Stealth Rock
Gyro Ball
Power Whip

I throw him out first all the way to the right. I like to try to get out leech seed on two opposing pokemon and a stealth rock if I can so I can switch Blissey in and give her more health support. I don't always switch him out in case there is a bulky water type, because that is one weakness in my team. So he has many purposes from hurting physical attackers to setting up entry hazards. (Tho I know entry hazards aren't as important in triple battles, but they still help.)

starmie.gif

Starmie@ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
SpAtk: 252, SpDef: 4, Spd 252
Timid nature
Scald
Psyshock
Thunderbolt
Recover

I wanted my team to be fairly balanced so Stamie made for one of my 3 sweepers. Also with recover I can try to hold onto a strong special sweeper for a little bit longer. I also like it's move set with scald and thunderbolt to be able to inflict status condition that help wear down walls or slow down sweepers.

lucario.gif

Lucario@ Lucarionite
Ability: Inner Focus
Atk: 252, Def: 4, Spd: 252
Adamant nature
Swords Dance
Close Combat
Bullet Punch
Iron Tail

Lucario is a great sweeper for this team for the fact that he doesn't take damage from the sandstorm. I don't always get to set up his swords dance, but that is why I save him for later in the battle to see who I am up against first. With fairy type being a threat he comes in handy. Also I wanted a mega on my team and I felt like he was the perfect one.

magnezone.gif

Magnezone@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
SpAtk: 252, Def: 4, Spd: 252
Timid nature
Volt Switch
Hidden Power(fire)
Flash Cannon
Thunderbolt

I like to throw out Magnezone right away in the middle to be able to volt switch him out and throw in who ever I see fitting for the circumstance. I don't always volt switch if I see other steel types out there. That way I can hidden power fire them and weaken them. Also if there is a beefy grass type I can blast them with a flash cannon. Magnezone also plays into the balance of my team being the only other special attacker.

Conclusion:

I do my best to get all my pokemon set up with the right stat boost and healing moves first. Then I try to stall out with walls and tanks as long as possible, pulling out a sweeper early on only if I absolutely have to. For the most part I try to save my sweepers for later in the game. I rather try to wear opponents down while setting up cursetar if I can. Thank you for your time and for reading. All advice is appreciated. Have a beautiful day! :)

Did you test this team before posting here? All of your pokemon have singles movesets with nothing that really takes advantage of the triples metagame. You have to test your teams before putting them up for an RMT so that you can fix obvious errors on your own (e.g. zero earthquake answers, no protecting moves aside from blissey, thinking lucario sweeps in triples, etc)

Free battle. I have only done 5 rating battles and won 2 out of the 5 battles. But I do better in free battles
If I were you I would focus on rating battles and maybe let us know how it goes after playing a decent amount of games. Rating battles are the official format battle spot goes by, it's generally more balanced without things like xerneas, primal groudon, etc. and has species clause to keep the meta sane. There's also much better players in rating battles so you get a good idea of what people commonly use and what the metagame is really like. Whereas, in free battles, it's mostly just a big mess of a ladder.

Of course you do better in Free Battles because 99% of players don't bring proper teams there... Free Battles are not competitive, the RMT forum (and Smogon as a whole) is only interested in competitive teams and metagames.

I think you should lurk our Battle Spot forum and try to learn what's actually good. You can also hang out in our room on Pokemon Showdown where we have a bunch of good triples players that you can talk to. Like DragonWhale said; this team is not set up properly for triples at all (no Protect, using RestTalk with a mono-targeting attack, Stealth Rock, Starmie, Mega Lucario, and a Scarf Magnet Pull Magnezone are all dumb in triples) so maybe you could try getting into the singles rated metagame instead? Lucky for you that's what is most popular in our subforum so you'll find plenty of info on it.

Curse on Tyranitar would be good, if the thing didn't have a giant number of weaknesses, or at least no 4x weakness. You'd also want a Careful nature, even with Curse(unless it was Curse Umbreon or something, which wants to be as slow as possible. I'm actually really surprised no one commented on your Blissey. It doesn't matter what metagame it is, you don't want Serene Grace on Blissey(or at least you should have a move that actually uses it), the only way it might make any sense, at least in Triples, is with Blizzard Blisset(gotta love that alliteration), which could've worked on your hail team. I also want to point out that 5 Rating Battles isn't enough to get a good idea of how your team does. What's more, a 2:5 win ratio isn't anything to brag about(am I starting to sound mean again? Sorry, not my intent), I did a few battles with a team I made and had quite a few more wins than you and fewer losses, and I STILL got told to change a few things. Of course, I didn't use the exact team I made an RMT for(I replaced one Pokemon after the first battle), and there were some other problems with that RMT, but even so, you get what I mean.

I think you're getting there. If you change some stuff, particularly on Blissey, this would be a pretty good team... for Singles at least. A few other things I'd change are Lucario's nature(you want a speed boosting nature for it), it's moves(Iron Tail has little use on anything, especially if it doesn't make good use of the possible defense boost), and Starmie's moveset(you want Surf in Triples.) I also think you should abbreviate speed as Soe, not SpD, since SpD is more commonly short for Special Defense. Another thing that's always good is to give the reason for the EVs you're using if they're not standard.
