Cow Power! Miltank Discussion.

http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/241.shtml

I've never really looked at Miltank much, as there has been better pokemon for the jobs I needed then this silly cow, but in D/P Miltank gets a crazy boost thanks to Scrappy. This thing has so many options its crazy.

The first thing I thought of was Endure/Salac/Reversal. Nothing gets a "free switch in", as they still end up taking damage. Zen Headbutt gives good damage and some decent type coverage.

Not very positive about Gyro Ball (kinda new here), but if it gets stronger with more speed then after the salac combined with Tanks base 100 speed it should be doing good damage.

But Tank has so many more options its hard for me to narrow down one thing I want to do with it. Stealth Rock in combo with Milk Drink gives you a nasty long lasting SR'er. Can even stick Curse on there with another attack.

Ofcourse, you can always stick Psych Up on her if you want to eat others buffs. Its generally a safe bet that you'll also have better survivability too thanks to Milk Drink.

Not enough move slots >.<

Gonna take this cow out for a spin once I pick up Pearl. Probably first going to try out:
Scrappy, Jolly, 252 Att, 252 Spd, 6 HP
-Endure
-Reversal
-Gyro Ball
-Zen Headbutt

Stalling SR'er could be fun too.
-Stealth Rock
-Milk Drink
-Curse
-Attack

Beef never tasted so good.

Milktank lacks the attack to launch unboosted attacks. Its either support miltank or curse milktank.

I would probably use this set in UU.

Miltank @ Leftovers
Scrappy
Thunder Wave
Milk Drink
Double Edge
Earthquake

EQ is for Aggron and things that resist Double Edge, no steel types in UU evade EQ or take EQ well, and Rock Types fear EQ anyway.(Skarm and Bronzomg are the only ones that have immunity). T-waves everything it can and dents it with Double Edge, not caring about Ghosts thanks to Scrappy. Milk Drink for recovery.

Gyro Ball is bad on Miltank. Too fast. Miltank is tied with Typhlosion and Raichu(maybe a few more, I'm not sure) as one of the 2nd fastest Reversalers. Kangaskhan is probably better at it, though. I like a utility-ish set:

Miltank w/Leftovers
<Either ability>
Milk Drink
Return
Thunder Wave/Stealth Rock
Heal Bell

The depends on whether you'd rather gain some resistances or hit ghosts. You oculd also put one of the third move choices over Heal Bell, I guess.

I think the best is-
Curse
Body Slam
Milk Drink
Heal Bell/Stealth Rock/Earthquake
With that set, if you want it to be an attacker, put Earthquake in the last slot. If you want it to be a supporter, put Heal Bell over Curse and Stealth Rock in the last slot imo.

Miltank is deceptively fast, but then so is Slaking. As a Scrappy Endrevver it's outclassed by Kangaskhan, so you'd probably do better to focus on what Miltank has over Kangaskhan, most notably Milk Drink and Heal Bell. It's an alright cleric if you don't want to use the egg for that.

Cursing her base 100 speed is such a goddamned waste, I can't do it. Also, an endrevver that takes Sandstorm damage kinda blows. The best Tank set will probably remain her cleric set: Heal Bell, Milk Drink, Stoss/BodySlam, Twave/othersupport.

That's the same set Blissey will be using for the most part, and she's much better at it even if you factor in Thick Fat.

Miltank's the bulkiest of the non-uber/slaking Punishment users, with her decent speed I might try out Milk Drink/Earthquake/Punishment/Psych Up, steals stat ups and then kills the opponent.

I like the ideaof mixing the Cleric and the Attacker.

Impish
EVs: Att, Def, Speed and SpDef (Dont ask me for numbers)
Scrappy

Return
Earthquake
Heal Bell
Milk Drink

Return for your main attack. It can hit everything neutral IIRC with Return and Earthquake due to Scrappy (Bar Bronzong, unless of course you meet a Flame Proof one).

Heal Bell and Milk Drink are pretty much standard.

You'll lose against Skarmory and Aerodactyl too. And honestly, you won't do any real damage. I prefer Body Slam over Return for support myself.

Miltank can Seismic Toss ghosts, Blissey can't. Miltank has a clear advantage over Blissey in that sense, so I can't see how Blissey automatically uses that set better, because while Miltank has fewer PP to heal and less defenses overall, it can wear down a greater number of opponents with it.

That said, i think Body Slam is better.

@Leftovers
Curse
Return/bodyslam
Earthquake
Firepunch/Milk Drink

I don't think Gengar likes switching in on Stab Returns... Snorlax does this better of course.

Perhaps:
@leftovers
Swagger
Return
Psych up/Milk Drink
Punishment

This moveset seems like anyone could do this really...

Body Slam is a perfect move for Miltank. It gives it the opportunity to damage without going with Seismic Toss which is handy, and at the same time paralyzes stuff. You no longer need something like Shadow Ball for Gengar either.

Obligatory novelty Miltank set because everyone else is spamming standards:

Miltank (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 32 Spd / 176 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
~ Captivate
~ Counter
~ Milk Drink
~ Seismic Toss / Body Slam

Yeah, I know I just said Body Slam is great, but you don't want to Counter on a full paralysis. The theoretical idea is to lure physical damage by repeatly Captivating Special Attackers, and then Counter for the kill. Miltank is female by default...and for other Pokemon on Competitor:

<Misty> tad, genders will probably be randomized by default on competitor
<Misty> lol
<Mekkah> lol what
<Mekkah> randomized per battle?
<Nob> I mean
<Misty> randomized per something
<Mekkah> otherwise I'll just repeatly generate a pokemon until I got the right gender
<Nob> they display pressure now
<Misty> well
<Mekkah> :[
<Nob> I don't see why they wouldn't display belligerence
<Misty> what would happen is
<Mekkah> HOW WONT MALE BLISSEY
<Nob> what do they call it now?
<Misty> you'd select the Pokemon and it would be a random gender value
<Misty> you could then select a manual gender value as usual
<Misty> but it won't be male by default

It'll work against starters on Wifi I suppose since those tend to be male, then again the best starters are Infernape and Swampert, which Captivate doesn't help much against.

Noticed that there were two key movesets missing from this thread. Here are the two best sets miltank has available to her

Miltank @ choice band
Scrappy - Adamant - 252 atk, 252 speed, 4 hp
Return
Earthquake
Zen Headbutt
Hammer Arm/Focus Punch/Brick Brick

Tauros's fat wife. Miltank has same typing, less speed and attack, and only slightly higher defenses than tauros (actually lower if you count intimidate). However Miltank has one thing that Tauros has not. Scrappy, which means that gengar wont be able to switch in on Miltank and laugh the way he does on Tauros. Earthquake for steels and S/E hits after the ghost is gone. Zen Headbutt just because it's there so you might as well use it because she doesnt get Stone Edge, bleh. Fighting move is up to you, Hammer arm is probably the best because its the most balanced fighting move available, though it kill her speed. Brick Break is there for the accuracy, but it's weak and not recommended. Focus Punch is usually good on choice banders because of the fear factor involved in their presence, but Miltank won't be scaring many pokes back to their pokeballs so that's not recommended either. Miltank also has access to the punches from Emerald, but then you dont get scrappy, so those arent really worth it.
This is the ONLY version of Miltank that can actually do damage with attacking moves, otherwise 80 base attack is not even worth looking up in the pokedex.

If you're not going to use the CB miltank, then you should be using the utilititank.

Miltank @ leftovers
Scrappy/Thick Fat - Impish/bold - 252 hp/ 252 sp def / 4 def
Seismic Toss
Thunder Wave
Heal Bell
Milk Drink

The much maligned "Blissey wannabe", this miltank carries all the benefits of the Blissey set, plus a little bit extra. First, Miltank can Seismic Toss ghosts with scrappy, and miltank can take both physical and special attacks in the 40% range, while Blissey goes into extremes and can't take physical attacks. Also, this can be used in conjunction with Blissey on a para-team, allowing Blissey to carry something besides Aromatherapy. This is one of the few good bellers out there, besides celebi and blissey.

If you're going to use miltank use one of these sets, although the cursing miltank (curse, body slam, milk drink, earthquake) got a little bit better with Scrappy because it doesnt need shadow ball anymore, freeing up its moveslots. Miltank does NO damage wih unboosted attacks, unless its fighting a sharpedo or something in league with that. But of course, in the end, it's up to you what you pick, so choose what's best for you. Wow, that was a lot longer than I intended.

edit: changed the nature on utilimiltank, impish bold is better, relaxed is on my in game high ivd miltank.

I'll keep using the Body Slam/Curse/Milk Drink/Heal Bell set. Its almost perfect - I got the logs to prove that it can take down Metagross, to name a not so little played poke. All that was a surefire wall on that Miltank is a phazer or a ghost. Ghosts get eliminated now and that leaves only phazers as a threat. However, with losing Thick Fat to Scrappy, there is less room to switch in on special attacks.

Why are you using relaxed nature in that above moveset when you can use Impish, or even Bold (if you are afraid of having confusion damage) Miltank is pretty decent in speed why are you cutting speed? The only thing I can think of is to have Gyro Ball do less damage to Miltank (?)
