Introduction
I used Charizard-Mega Y on another team with some success, and so I wanted to try to build a new team around him. I chose Venusaur as a natural partner and selected Landorus-T, Thundurus, Scrafty, and Sylveon afterwards, for reasons I'll discuss one at a time. I'm pretty new to the format, so there may be some flaws in the team, but so far it's worked fairly well for me. Hope you like the team! :)
The Team
Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Overheat
- Solar Beam
- Protect
I chose Charizard-Mega Y to build this team around simply because of his amazing offensive stats. He certainly does have weaknesses (Rock slide!), but he can quite often take out at least one pokemon with reasonable damage to more, and a reasonable amount of the time he takes out a larger proportion of the enemy team. He also sets up sun, which is useful because it sets up Venusaur as a powerful offensive threat. The moveset is fairly simple. Heat Wave is solid power and multi-target damage, and Overheat is there for when something just needs to die right that turn. Solar Beam takes out a lot of threats to Charizard, and Protect is there for when I just need to survive (to let a partner take out something with Rock Slide or similarly deadly moves).
Venusaur @ Focus Sash
Ability: Chlorophyll
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 Def
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder
- Protect
Venusaur is a natural partner to Charizard (and in fact against many teams I lead with the two of them). Sun makes him a powerful offensive threat due to chlorophyll. Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb are the basic STAB moves. Protect is there just in case I need it, while Sleep Powder is there because Vensaur IS supporting Charizard.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
- Superpower
I chose Landorus-T because of his excellent capabilities as a Scarf user. Earthquake will KO many enemies, and it can safely partner with Charizard and Thundurus. Rock Slide is the other move Landorus will often use. Sometimes, it's a safer choice, as it avoids harming certain friendly Pokemon while harming enemies with Levitate or flying-type, both of which are pretty common in the VCG metagame. U-turn and Superpower both provide some coverage (and a bit of tempo, in the case of U-turn).
Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Psychic
- Protect
I chose Thundurus because he's an excellent partner for Landorus-T, and he provides very good coverage. I chose Thunderbolt and HP Ice simply because they're standard coverage moves. Psychic was selected over Thunder Wave because I simply felt that this team doesn't really NEED the paralysis. The only slow Pokemon I have are Scrafty and Sylveon, and they work well enough together and have enough bulk that I feel the Psychic coverage is more important. However, I'm unsure of my decision - Sylveon, one of the slower pokemon who could be partnered with mostly anyone, has Psyshock (though using that would require her to take a turn off of Hyper Voice) - could use some feedback on which move may work better. Protect is chosen for the same reason you'd pick Protect on mostly anything else.
Scrafty @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Atk / 92 SpD
Careful Nature
- Fake Out
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Protect
I chose Scrafty because he adds a bit of bulk to the team while maintaining a good offensive presence. Fake Out was chosen because it's simply an amazing move in doubles. Drain Punch and Knock Off are Scrafty's standard moves, while Protect is chosen, again, for the same reason any other pokemon would choose it. The Intimidate bonus helps a ton, especially because Scrafty is often partnered with Sylveon, who has excellent special defense but much lower defense.
Sylveon @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Pixilate
Level: 50
EVs: 188 HP / 68 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Protect
I added Sylveon both as a partner for Scrafty and also because she does an excellent job partnered with anything - Hyper Voice does tons of damage to multiple targets. Hyper Voice will generally just get spammed, but where necessary, Psyshock and Shadow Ball can be mixed in for the sake of coverage. Protect is there for when she needs it, though Sylveon has great special bulk and thus may not need it too often.
Thank you for reviewing my RMT! I'd appreciate any feedback on my team. :)
