SPOILERS! Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Data Dumps

Assuming this is available as soon as you reach Veilstone, you can get Swords Dance super early. You all know what that means, right?

Honestly I might just do a mono-Water type run for my first playthrough

Empoleon (I'm really warming up to it, I almost like it more than Torterra to be honest)
Bibarel (Swords Dance + Simple is no joke. I've seen calcs before and I'm pretty sure it can wreck OU with it, although it's too slow and frail to do anything)
Floatzel (My man)
Manaphy (It's free)
Phionne (Also free)
Another Empoleon (Grand Underground)

Bibarel (Swords Dance + Simple is no joke. I've seen calcs before and I'm pretty sure it can wreck OU with it, although it's too slow and frail to do anything)

Here
Once you get a Swords Dance up (+4) Bibarel can do this:
Greninja - Quick Attack = 113.6 - 134%
Hawlucha - Quick Attack = 82.5 - 97.5% KO after rocks
Mega Mawile - Aqua Jet = 65.5 - 77.2%
Mega Swampert - Aqua Jet (Rain) = 84.7 - 100%
Tapu Koko - Quick Attack = 85.8 - 101%
Medicham - Quick Attack = 91.5 - 108%

And that's just with 40BP Priority moves, find an opportunity to use Return or Waterfall and *chef's kiss*

TMs from the Game Corner are now buyable from the Department Store.
Weren't TMs made single use again for game balance? Selling most of the best TMs kind of ruins the point of doing that.

HMs are removed and people are still going to use Bidoof unironically... You've got to be kidding me.

Waterfall is the best Physical Water Attack, but Return was cut. The best Normal Attack left is Strength, unless you want Rock Climb's 10 extra Power at the cost of 15 Accuracy. HMs were cut and people are still going to teach it HM moves... 0_o

What the hell is this game?! Being faithful to the point of making people do that... There's no way being faithful isn't a meme.

People were celebrating the fact Bidoof isn't necessary to catch to progress the game by dumping HMs in it anymore. DP Bidoof and BDSP Bidoof play very different so I don't get the confusion here
I'm mostly joking about Bidoof going from something no one wanted to use but used anyway to something people want to use, but just the idea of Bidoof going from meme to serious pick is shocking.

I honestly hope ILCA comes back for more in the future. BDSP looks so good. Imagine if they made their own Pokemon game without input from Gamefreak...that would be a sight to behold.

If ILCA were to make a third version of BDSP using Platinum as the base, it'd pretty much be the best game in the series. As it stands, BDSP already looks to be in the discussion for that title.

I wouldn't go that far. Right away BDSP not being based on Platinum is a major con. I know we all got excited about the rematch teams, but Platinum was more than just that. We got some new characters added to the story that gave us a little more insight on Team Plasma and Cyrus, the climax of the story was changed to include Giratina and the Distortion World, and the post game area was given a lot of graphical updates &, say it with me, the Battle Frontier. BDSP's inclusions are nice but don't quite replace the major Platinum inclusions.

Also, I think Gen V is better than Gen IV. Am I saying those who think Gen IV is better is wrong? Hm, yes and no. It's all matter of preference. Gen IV was a fine generation in my book... but felt kind of generic. At least Diamond & Pearl, Platinum added some more content and story elements that brought it up. Still, even with Platinum I feel base Black & White was more interesting (and B2W2 being a sequel instead of an upgraded version allowed it to further expand on the region that the other third versions couldn't). But that's just my opinion and preferences, obviously those who think the story in Pokemon is always too simple to really "dig into" will found Gen V's attempt lackluster and the lack of any older gen Pokemon during the main game a turn off.

The point I guess I'm trying to get across is how about discussion for BDSP focus on being whether it's the best Gen IV game (or what could have been done to make it so) before we try and go for "best in series"... which I don't think is an obtainable title. Plus, another thing against BDSP is that it's a 1:1 remake which goes against what we go with past remakes and that still rubs me the wrong way. No character redesigns, no going deeper with the Team Plasma story, no major interesting interactions with the NPC characters, and no Pokemon beyond Gen IV so who knows what having those or addressing their regions could have added.

*blinks* Jesus, tune around here really changed, huh?

While I am glad ILCA was able to not have this turn into a dumpster fire for their first true game project, I highly doubt it couldnt have been done without GF's help. I know its the cool thing to dunk on GF at every opprotunity but remember these guys are ameteurs at this. There's still flaws and oversights as the thread was very quick and frequently pointing out, and i think calling a game one of the franchises best before the release is just...overhyped.

That being said, I'm getting a bit excited to see what the end result will be. DLC is still in the cards, and were venturing into unknown territory after the dust settles. Ill eagerly await the results and the reactions of everyone then

Maybe I'm getting carried away with the hype train, in fairness. I will say that I've never seen anything like these rematch teams before. Perfect IV'd, EV trained, six mon opposing teams, all holding items, with competitive strats, is something that is quite literally unprecedented in a main series Pokémon game. It's a tremendous selling point for me.

I do think it's "in the discussion" as I specified in my earlier post. But I'm far from declaring it the outright best in the franchise without first having played it.

Oh speaking of comparing this game to Platinum

The Basics
  • Pokedex: Yes (if you wanna be rly anal you can say that the actual Pokedex device only has DP’s 151 before National Dex but screw technicalities)
  • Player/rival designs: Both for players, DP for rival
  • Looker: No
  • Charon: No
  • Distortion World: Sorta
  • Battle Frontier: No
Other New Content
  • Obtainable Regis: Yes
  • Roaming Kanto Birds: Yes (but not roaming, which is probably an upgrade for most lel)
  • Battleground/Gym Leader Rematches: Yes.
  • Elite Four Rematches: YES.

Visuals: Primarily DP-based, although on top of original flourishes by ILCA there are elements carried over from Platinum, including
  • Tree designs
  • The side of Rowan’s lab having a brown roof
  • Oreburgh City conveyer belt coal
  • Veilstone City floor tiles
  • Gray rocks in Celestic cave
  • And probably other things I neglected to mention
Overall though its heavily biased in favor of ogs enough for it to get a point

All things considered, most of the stuff not directly lifted from Platinum is either
a) alleviated in some form (the late-game DP meme teams being well-constructed now, the cool shadow Giratina superboss)
b) outright surpassed (more legendaries to hunt, the beastly rematches)
or c) wasn't really that important to begin with (lol Charon and Amity Square)

The only real bummers are ofc the Battle Frontier's absence, but also Hearthome Gym specifically and Looker not even being acknowledged. If the formermost were to be added in the future via a free update or something I'd be confident in calling this the definitive Sinnoh game by a comfortable margin, but as things stand it's a perfectly valid alternative. Personally, based on my own tastes as a fan of this franchise, BDSP seems like it might be more fun for me specifically than Platinum even if that game has a solid argument to be considered the better experience overall, but that's just for me of course.
