Monotype Bisharp (Steel)

[OVERVIEW]

Steel
========
* Bisharp's high base Attack, good offensive, and access to Swords Dance typing allow it to function as an effective sweeper.
* Bisharp's access to the ability Defiant discourages the usage of stat-lowering moves such as Defog.
* Bisharp also has a threatening offensive presence that gives it many opportunities to set up with Swords Dance.
* Although Bisharp's movepool is extremely shallow, the attacks that it does get are very good. Knock Off provides useful support by removing items, and Sucker Punch is powerful priority.
* However, it can end up having to rely on the somewhat unreliable Sucker Punch due to its low Speed tier.
* Bisharp's defensive typing makes it weak to common coverage in Monotype, and its poor Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Iron Head
item: Life Orb / Black Glasses
ability: Defiant
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Swords Dance boosts Bisharp's Attack by two stages, allowing it to break through walls.
* Knock Off is a strong Dark-type STAB move that also removes items, allows it to beat physical walls such as Porygon2, and is difficult to switch into.
* Iron Head is another STAB move that hits Fairy-types that resist Dark, hits Mega Evolutions harder, and has a decent chance to flinch.
* Sucker Punch patches up Bisharp's middling Speed, although it is unreliable, and is the main sweeping move.

Set Details
========

* Maximum Attack EVs are used to give Bisharp as much of an offensive presence as possible.
* Maximum Speed EVs are used so it can outspeed as many Pokemon as possible, such as Rotom-W.
* An Adamant nature is chosen to maximize Bisharp's Attack and to OHKO Zapdos at +2, even without a Life Orb.
* However, with Life Orb, Bisharp handles more threats, especially Heatran, which it OHKOes at +2 with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock damage.
* Black Glasses can be used to boost Bisharp's Dark-type moves without the recoil of Life Orb. At +2, important threats such as Landorus and Nidoking are still OHKOed by Sucker Punch, but Iron Head is not boosted at all.
* Defiant is the chosen ability because it discourages the usage of stat-lowering moves such as Defog and Sticky Web.

Usage Tips
========
* Bisharp has many opportunities to boost its Attack, which can allow it to sweep teams.
* Passive Pokemon, such as Chansey, and Choice-locked Pokemon, such as Gengar locked into Shadow Ball, are easy to set up Swords Dance on.
* When an opposing Pokemon is in range of being KOed by Sucker Punch, if you predict your opponent to switch it out, you can use the opportunity to set up Swords Dance.
* When possible, switch Bisharp into Defog to activate Defiant for a +2 boost to its Attack.
* Keep in mind that Mega Pokemon and Pokemon holding Z-Crystals will take less damage from Knock Off since their items cannot be removed.
* Although sweeping late-game with +2 Sucker Punch is effective, Bisharp can be used early-game to damage and cripple opposing Pokemon by removing their items with Knock Off.
* Bisharp can revenge kill weakened threats with Sucker Punch, but be careful when using Sucker Punch against Pokemon that commonly use status moves, setup moves, or Substitute. Sucker Punch will fail and you might lose momentum.
* Bisharp's bulk is quite unimpressive; therefore,it cannot consistently switch into many attacks, especially special ones.

Team Options
========

* Magearna is an excellent partner for Bisharp because of its ability to handle most Fighting- and defensive Dark-types in the metagame, especially Mega Sableye, as well as being a fantastic special wallbreaker that can handle physical walls such as Skarmory and Porygon2.
* Doublade creates a entry hazard preservation core with Bisharp because of its Ghost typing and immunity to Fighting-type moves combined with Bisharp's Defiant. Bisharp can also cripple Doublade's checks, allowing for Doublade to sweep once walls such as Skarmory have been weakened.
* Skarmory can support Bisharp by providing Spikes and checking Fighting types, while Bisharp can discourage opponents from Defogging away entry hazards set by Skarmory.
* Choice Scarf Magnezone is able to revenge kill or force out the Water-types that could wall Bisharp such as Keldeo as well as trap defensive Steel-types like Skarmory with Magnet Pull. It can also safely bring Bisharp in with Volt Switch.
* Heatran can also deal with defensive Steel-types like Skarmory, set up Stealth Rock, and KO Fire-types with Earth Power or Stone Edge.
* Swords Dance Mega Scizor shares similar checks with Bisharp; one can weaken them for the other to sweep.
* Choice Scarf Excadrill can get rid of the Electric- and Fire-type Pokemon that threaten Bisharp, and is a great late-game cleaner.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Bisharp can choose to forgo Swords Dance for another attack, but this inhibits its sweeping ability.
* Pursuit can be used to trap Ghost- and Psychic-types.
* Psycho Cut can be used to hit Fighting-types that could switch into Bisharp such as Keldeo, but it does not do a significant enough amount of damage to it.
* Low Kick can be used to hit opposing Bisharp and Mega Gyarados.
* Lum Berry can be used to cure Bisharp of a status condition used by an opposing Pokemon one time, Will-O-Wisp Mew for example, but Bisharp will sorely miss the power from a damage-boosting item.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Infernape can switch into into Bisharp relatively easily because of their resistance to Dark-type moves, outspeed it, and OHKO it without worrying much about Sucker Punch.

**Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola can switch into Bisharp with ease and fish for burns with Scald.

**Quagsire**: Quagsire is another bulky Water-type that completely counters Bisharp because of Unaware, which ignores Bisharp's Attack boosts.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Bulky Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Gastrodon are bulky enough to take attacks from Bisharp and KO it back with Ground-type STAB moves. Hippowdon and Gliscor can also survive +2 Knock Off.

**Faster Pokemon**: Bisharp is quite slow and the only way it can mitigate its Speed tier is with Sucker Punch, which is unreliable.

**Status Moves**: Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp users such as Porygon2 and Mew can easily cripple Bisharp.

**Substitute Users**: Substitute users such as Zapdos and Gyarados can safely set up a
Substitute on Bisharp, which causes Sucker Punch to fail and allows the latter to set up Dragon Dance.

Mention good movepool, that's one of the biggest reasons to use Bisharp on Steel.
* However, it can end up having to rely on Sucker Punch due to its low Speed tier, which is somewhat unreliable and weak.
* Bisharp's defensive typing makes it weak to common coverage in Monotype, and its poor Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers.
* Even so, Bisharp can fit on both offensively-oriented and balanced Steel teams quite well.

Moves
========

* Swords Dance boosts Bisharp's attack by two stages. And? Some more detail here.
* Knock Off is a strong Dark-type STAB move that also removes items and allows it to beat physical walls such as Porygon2. Also pretty hard to switch into.
* Iron Head is another STAB move that hits Fairy-types that resist Dark, hits Mega and also has a decent chance to flinch.
* Sucker Punch patches up Bisharp's middling Speed, although it is unreliable.

Set Details
========

* Maximum Attack EVs are used to give Bisharp as much of an offensive presence as possible.
*Maximum Speed EVs are used so it can outspeed as many Pokemon as possible. Such as?
* An Adamant nature is chosen over Jolly to maximize Bisharp's Attack and to OHKO Zapdos at +2, even without a Life Orb.
* Lum Berry is used to allow Bisharp to set up on status spreaders such as Mew. However, with Life Orb, Bisharp handles more threats, namely Heatran, which it OHKOs at +2 with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock. Probably especially Heatran
* Defiant is the chosen ability because it discourages the usage of stat-lowering moves such as Defog and Sticky Web.

Usage Tips
========

* Bisharp has many opportunities to boost its Attack. such as? Which ones should you take?
* By switching it into Defog users such as Zapdos, Defog can trigger Bisharp's Defiant and boost its Attack to +2. The Speed reduction from Sticky Web will also trigger Defiant. [[I have no idea how to phrase this]] "When feasable, switch Bisharp into Defog to activate defiant for a +2 boost to its Attack" or "Pivot Bisharp into Defog to get a +2 Attack boost from Defiant" something like this.
* Passive Pokemon such as Chansey, or Choice-locked Pokemon, are easy to set up Swords Dance on. Put this up with bullet 1
* Although sweeping late-game with +2 Sucker is effective, Bisharp can be used early game to damage and cripple opposing Pokemon by removing their items with Knock Off.
* Keep in mind that Mega Pokemon or Pokemon holding Z-Crystals will take less damage from Knock Off since their items cannot be removed.
* Be careful when using Sucker Punch against Pokemon that commonly use status moves or substitute. Because...

Team Options
========

* Magearna is an excellent partner for Bisharp because of its ability to handle most Fighting-types in the metagame.
* Doublade creates a spinblocking core with Bisharp because of its Ghost-typing and Bisharp's Defiant as well as being immune to Fighting-type moves. Spinblocking core isn't an accepted GP term; say that they help keep hazards on the feild
* Jirachi can use Healing Wish late-game, which allows Bisharp to play more aggressively, and is also another Fighting-type check.
*Skarmory can support Bisharp by providing entry hazard support and also checks Fighting types. Mention how bisharp's ability to stop defog helps skarmory in return
* Choice Scarf Magnezone is able to revenge kill or force out the Water-types that could wall Bisharp such as Keldeo as well as trap defensive Steel-types like Skarmory with Magnet Pull.
* Heatran can also deal with Defensive Steel-types, and patches up Bisharp's weakness to Fire-type moves with Flash Fire.
* Mega Metagross makes a good core with Bisharp because Bisharp can remove the bulky Psychic-types that check Mega Metagross such as Slowbro, and Mega Metagross can deal with the Fighting-types that threaten Bisharp.
* Swords Dance Mega Scizor shares similar checks with Bisharp; one can weaken them for the other to sweep.
* Choice Scarf Excadrill can get rid of the Electric- and Fire-type Pokemon that threaten Bisharp.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Pursuit can be used to trap Ghost- and Psychic- types. But...
* Psycho Cut can be used to hit Fighting-types that could switch into it such as Keldeo, however it does not do a significant amount of damage. Generally you'd just want to use iron head; only Keldeo is really relevantly hit by it, as things like cobalion are hit harder by low kick. Don't mention this.
* Low Kick can be used to hit opposing Bisharp and Mega Gyarados.
* However, all three of the above require Bisharp to forgo Swords Dance, which inhibits its sweeping ability.
Blackglasses here
* Bisharp can use a lead set with Stealth Rock and Focus Sash, but this is outclassed by Steel monotype's more reliable hazard setters, such as Skarmory, Heatran, and Ferrothorn.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Status Moves**: Thunder Wave and Will-o-Wisp can easily cripple Life Orb sets, and Lum Berry sets are also vulnerable to repeated use.
**Fighting Types**: Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Kommo-o can switch into into Bisharp relatively easily, outspeed it, and OHKO it with a STAB Fighting-type move without worrying about Sucker Punch. Put above status, and probably "worry overmuch" because sucker punch does still hit; kommo-o isn't that relevant and doesn't rlly like iron head.
**Water Types**: Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola can switch into Bisharp with ease and can fish for burns with Scald.
**Quagsire**: Quagsire is another bulky Water-type that hard counters Bisharp because of Unaware, which ignores Bisharp's Attack boosts.
**Bulky Ground-types**: Bulky Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Gastrodon are bulky enough to take attacks from Bisharp and KO it back with Ground-type STAB. Hippowdon and Gliscor can also survive +2 Knock Off.

Edit: AM QC check. Please do not implement anything unless QC gives it the okay!

Moves:

* Iron Head is another STAB move that hits Fairy-types that resist Dark, hits Mega <-- (Elaborate on this) and also has a decent chance to flinch.

Set Details:

* An Adamant nature is chosen over Jolly to maximize Bisharp's Attack and to OHKO Zapdos at +2, even without a Life Orb. (I'd probably mention what Jolly does over Adamant since you did mention the nature here).

Usage Tips:

* Passive Pokemon such as Chansey, or Choice-locked Pokemon, are easy to set up Swords Dance on. (Would give more detail of what possible Choice-locked Pokemon to set up on).
(Maybe try to mention when you should switch in Bisharp, when is the right opportunity to bring it in? That is, in case it's not being used early-game).
(I'd also mention how Bisharp's presence can create mind games for the opposing Pokemon with Sucker Punch and thanks to that, it's able to use that as an opportunity to set up Swords Dance if they try to switch out or go for a non-attacking move).

Team Options:

* Magearna is an excellent partner for Bisharp because of its ability to handle most Fighting-types in the metagame. (Mention that Magearna can check Dark-types such as Mandibuzz, Hoopa-U, and Mega Sableye).
*Skarmory can support Bisharp by providing entry hazard support and also checks Fighting types. (I'd be more specific with which entry hazards Skarmory is setting because the most popular one right now is Spikes. Mention that Skarmory can be a great switch into Ground-types and take physical attacks thanks to its great physical bulk. You mentioned how Ferrothorn is a reliable entry hazard setter in OO over Bisharp but it's not mentioned here in Team Options. Mention that it's able to set up Stealth Rock and is another check/counter to Water-types too. With its Grass typing, it has a neutrality to Ground-type attacks and can hit back with Power Whip, which makes it a good check to them. Having support moves like Thunder Wave and Leech Seed are also great assets in helping Bisharp too).
* Choice Scarf Magnezone is able to revenge kill or force out the Water-types that could wall Bisharp such as Keldeo as well as trap defensive Steel-types like Skarmory with Magnet Pull. (Mention Magnezone's ability to provide Volt Switch support to gain momentum for Bisharp).
* Heatran can also deal with Defensive Steel-types, and patches up Bisharp's weakness to Fire-type moves with Flash Fire. (Mention that Heatran can set up Stealth Rock too and check Fire-types with Earth Power and Stone Edge).
* Swords Dance Mega Scizor shares similar checks with Bisharp; one can weaken them for the other to sweep. (Similar checks such as...? It can also gain momentum for Bisharp thanks to U-turn.)
* Choice Scarf Excadrill can get rid of the Electric- and Fire-type Pokemon that threaten Bisharp. (Mention that Choice Scarf Excadrill can also be a great late-game cleaner and that it can provide entry hazard removal with Rapid Spin to avoid Bisharp from taking any damage).
(I'd also add Celesteela because that too has an immunity to Ground-types and provides support with Leech Seed to wear down Pokemon that lack recovery. Not to mention it can be a great check to opposing Steel-types with Flamethrower such as Skarmory.)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options:

(Would mention Life Orb down here since it's not in the main set and what uses it has over Lum Berry and why Lum Berry is more preferred over it. QC can decide upon where it should be).

Checks and Counters:

**Status Moves**: Thunder Wave and Will-o-Wisp can easily cripple Life Orb sets, and Lum Berry sets are also vulnerable to repeated use. (Would give an example of a couple T-Wave and Will-O-Wisp users).
Mention that Fighting-types resist Bisharp's Dark-type moves, while Keldeo resists both of its STAB moves. Bisharp generally becomes very vulnerable against Fighting matchups, especially many of them outspeed it.
(Hmm, would want to mention faster Pokemon down here because of Bisharp's below average Speed stat coupled with the fact that it has to literally rely on Sucker Punch, but QC can determine that).

That's all I have, nothing big or anything since Bisharp is straightforward~

I don't really like the Rapid Spin half, but yes to the cleaning. It only really hates Spikes, since Stealth Rock does negligible damage and Sticky Web actually helps Bisharp.
(I'd also add Celesteela because that too has an immunity to Ground-types and provides support with Leech Seed to wear down Pokemon that lack recovery. Not to mention it can be a great check to opposing Steel-types with Flamethrower such as Skarmory.) I don't like Celesteela as a teammate, since Skarmory is going to be the preferred Steel / Flying on offense for its hazard stack and it's a bit too slow to fit.

That's all I have, nothing big or anything since Bisharp is straightforward~

Overview:
- Talk about how good its attacks are: Knock Off provides great support and cripples many Pokemon, while Sucker Punch is powerful priority.
- I'd mention how poor its coverage is.
- Bisharp pretty much only fits on offense and that's because of just how good Defiant is.

Set:
- Life Orb / Black Glasses should be the item slashing right now. After the Sucker Punch nerf, among other reasons, Bisharp cannot afford to not have a damage-boosting item. In the past, Lum Berry was especially good for reasons such as beating Mega Sableye. Magearna is now the best Mega Sableye check and is used on pretty much every Steel team anyway. Anyway, Lum Berry's pretty bad now.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Iron Head
item: Life Orb / Black Glasses
ability: Defiant
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Moves:
- Add to Sucker Punch that it's the main sweeping move. You probably aren't sweeping Pokemon slower, so Sucker Punch really puts the hurt on faster Pokemon.

Set Details:
- Remove Lum Berry.
- Add Black Glasses, which still powers up its Dark-type moves without recoil. At +2, it still KOes important targets like Landorus and Nidoking. It's just a bit weaker, obviously and doesn't boost Iron Head.

Usage Tips:
- Need to mention revenge killing with Sucker Punch.
- Talk about how Bisharp cannot really switch into attacks because of its unimpressive bulk.

Team Options:
- Magearna is also a fantastic special wallbreaker, which lets it take out many physical walls such as Porygon2 and Skarmory.
- Talk about Doublade helping to overload checks and how they set each other up for later sweeps.
- I'd honestly not even include Jirachi. Choice Scarf Jirachi really sucks.
- For Heatran, specify Skarmory as a defensive Steel-type.
- Ferrothorn doesn't really fit on offense, so I'd drop it.

Other Options:
- Remove Black Glasses.
- Don't talk about the lead set. It's beyond outclassed.

Checks and Counters:
- Status should go way lower.
- Add Substitute.

Good work all of you. QC 1/3

QC 1/3

pretty sure i got everything here, thanks!
ready for 2/3

After looking through this a few times, I have nothing to add. Everything I wanted to say is in the AM check that Eien went over.

I'm not going to add a few others because it should be obvious to those who read it (like in Usage Tips, Bisharp having to avoid paralysis and especially for burns, it needs to be wary about being a physical sweeper).

Just add Substitute to checks / counters.

[OVERVIEW]

Steel
========
* Bisharp's high base Attack and good offensive typing allow it to function as an effective sweeper with Swords Dance.
* Bisharp's access to the ability Defiant discourages the usage of stat-lowering moves such as Defog.
* Bisharp also has a threatening offensive presence that gives it many opportunities to set up with Swords Dance.
* Although Bisharp's movepool is extremely poor, the attacks that it does get are very good. Knock Off provides useful support by removing items; Sucker Punch is powerful priority.
* However, it can end up having to rely on Sucker Punch due to its low Speed tier, which is somewhat unreliable.
* Bisharp's defensive typing makes it weak to common coverage in Monotype, and its poor Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Swords Dance boosts Bisharp's attack by two stages and allows it to break through walls.
* Knock Off is a strong Dark-type STAB move that also removes items and allows it to beat physical walls such as Porygon2, as well as being difficult to switch into.
* Iron Head is another STAB move that hits Fairy-types that resist Dark, hits Mega Evolutions harder, and also has a decent chance to flinch.
* Sucker Punch patches up Bisharp's middling Speed, although it is unreliable, and is the main sweeping move.

Set Details
========

* Maximum Attack EVs are used to give Bisharp as much of an offensive presence as possible.
* Maximum Speed EVs are used so it can outspeed as many Pokemon as possible, such as Rotom-Wash.
* An Adamant nature is chosen to maximize Bisharp's Attack and to OHKO Zapdos at +2, even without a Life Orb.
* However, with Life Orb, Bisharp handles more threats, especially Heatran, which it OHKOs at +2 with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock.
* Black Glasses can be used to boost Bisharp's Dark-type moves with the recoil of Life Orb. At +2, important threats such as Landorus and Nidoking are still OHKOed by Sucker Punch, but Iron Head is not boosted at all.
* Defiant is the chosen ability because it discourages the usage of stat-lowering moves such as Defog and Sticky Web.

Usage Tips
========
* Bisharp has many opportunities to boost its Attack, which can allow it to sweep teams. This is a very vague statement when should it use Swords Dance to boost its attack ?
* When possible, switch Bisharp into Defog to activate Defiant for a +2 boost to its Attack.
* Passive Pokemon such as Chansey, or Choice-locked Pokemon such as Gengar locked into Shadow Ball, are easy to set up Swords Dance on.
* When an opposing Pokemon is in range of being KOed by Sucker Punch, if you predict your opponent to switch it out, you can use obtain a +2 boost by using Swords Dance.
* Keep in mind that Mega Pokemon or Pokemon holding Z-Crystals will take less damage from Knock Off since their items cannot be removed.
* Although sweeping late-game with +2 Sucker Punch is effective, Bisharp can be used early game to damage and cripple opposing Pokemon by removing their items with Knock Off.
* Bisharp can revenge kill weakened threats with Sucker Punch, but be careful when using Sucker Punch against Pokemon that commonly use status moves or Substitute. Sucker Punch will fail and you might lose momentum. set up as well
* Bisharp's bulk is quite unimpressive, therefore it cannot consistently switch into many attacks, especially special ones.

Team Options
========

* Magearna is an excellent partner for Bisharp because of its ability to handle most Fighting- and defensive Dark-types in the metagame, especially Mega Sableye, as well as being a fantastic special wallbreaker that can handle physical walls such as Skarmory and Porygon2.
* Doublade creates a entry hazard preservation core with Bisharp because of its Ghost-typing and Bisharp's Defiant as well as being immune to Fighting-type moves. Doublade and Bisharp also share similar checks, allowing for one to weaken them and the other to sweep. Wouldn't sharing similar checks be a bad thing?
*Skarmory can support Bisharp by providing entry hazard support and also checks Fighting types, while Bisharp can discourage opponents from Defogging away entry hazards set by Skarmory. Spikes should be primary hazard mentioned here because that's skarmory's primary hazard
* Choice Scarf Magnezone is able to revenge kill or force out the Water-types that could wall Bisharp such as Keldeo as well as trap defensive Steel-types like Skarmory with Magnet Pull. It can also safely bring Bisharp in with Volt Switch.
* Heatran can also deal with defensive Steel-types like Skarmory, set Stealth Rock, and KO Fire-types with Earth Power and Stone Edge.
* Swords Dance Mega Scizor shares similar checks with Bisharp; one can weaken them for the other to sweep.
* Choice Scarf Excadrill can get rid of the Electric- and Fire-type Pokemon that threaten Bisharp, and is a great late-game cleaner.
* Ferrothorn spikes leech seed checks fast water types

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Bisharp can choose to forgo Swords Dance for another attack, but this inhibits its sweeping ability.
* Pursuit can be used to trap Ghost- and Psychic- types. Why is it outclassed
* Psycho Cut can be used to hit Fighting-types that could switch into it such as Keldeo, however it does not do a significant amount of damage.
* Low Kick can be used to hit opposing Bisharp and Mega Gyarados.
* Lum Berry can be used to cure Bisharp of a status condition one time, but Bisharp will sorely miss the power from a damage-boosting item. Lum Berry is mainly for Wil-O-Wisp Mew so would mention that

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fighting Types**: Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Infernape can switch into into Bisharp relatively easily because of their resistance to Dark-type moves, outspeed it, and OHKO it without worrying too much about Sucker Punch.
**Faster Pokemon**: Bisharp is quite slow and the only way it can mitigate its speed tier is with Sucker Punch, which is unreliable.
**Status Moves**: Thunder Wave and Will-o-Wisp users such as Klefki for the former and Mew for the latter can easily cripple Bisharp. Klefki has prankster and since Bisharp is a Dark-type it is immune to Thunder Wave from Klefki
**Substitute Users**: Substitute users such as Zapdos and Gyarados can safely set up a Substitute on Bisharp, which causes Sucker Punch to fail, and allows the latter to set up Dragon Dance.
QC 3/3 just couple minor mistakes, Well Done
