Battling the Hypocrites

I want to battle with my friends in school who claim to be big on Smogon OU, but they seem to look down on people who use legendaries, even the likes of Phione and Uxie, and that means I can't use Latias (They call people who use Legendaries as "gay"). But the thing is these are the same people who hack movesets and stats, and one person even said it's ok Garchomp and Wobuffet in their battles.

And now I have two questions:

1. What do you think of people who say they battle OU, yet they whine about the use of legendaries, even ones outside the Uber tier, and yet they still use Garchomp and Wobuffet, and even hack to have ALL maxed stats?

2. Should I just go in with a Latias (it's legal OU) and own them for being hypocrites, or battle according to their rules?

It is a mindset that many people have, and frankly you can't really change that. Technically, they aren't wrong in not allowing legends, as most of the time In-game things such as the battle tower do not allow most. Since the majority of players do mostly in-game, I would suspect them to base their beliefs off of that.

Anyways, if you find it that big of a problem, don't battle them. Simple as that. Don't go down to their own level.

Chances are they're bullshitting you and they're just random scrubs talking big. Ignore them.

You could just not play them and instead battle over WiFi or on Shoddy.

edit: moving to stark since more pokemon players will see this there

Happens. I had a similar case in my school where I can only use one legendary in a tournament. I used Kyogre, Kingdra, and Garchomp and won the tournament easily.
Really, just abuse Garchomp and Lucario, and most importantly, Wobbuffet. Or hack max stats like they do. Simple.

1) I think people are plain ignorant and dumb. Arguing can be useless depending on the situation. I wrote a six page long argument regarding the awkward rules in the tourney. My English teacher, who coordinated the tournament, took it and read it. He liked it but apparently since one of his club members is there he turned it down. Despite the stupid rules, I find it enjoyable to battle them because you know you'd win

2) Again, go for abuse within the rules. I'd rather not get into complicated stuff when they start accusing you and blah blah blah. Only break their rules if you have tons of time and also ready to take some whining.

Or you could ignore them. Though I often enjoy beating scrubs at their own game :)

I have a similar mindset in disliking the tiers that Smogon uses and prefer to battle according to the Battle Frontier rules. But they hack movesets and stats. Like possible ones or impossible ones.

I personally don't use unbreedable Pokemon in any of my theory teams (which all suck, I guess) and I personally only use Level-Up moves and Egg Moves on them too. But if I wanted to, I wouldn't stop myself from using stuff like Garchomp and Wobbufett because I don't care about these tiers. I also don't care about all those clauses, but I like Item Clause.

I like official stuff, like Yu-Gi-Oh!'s B&R list, but not unofficial stuff like Smogon's rules and stuff (although I do follow them when battling on Shoddy).

Jibaku's idea is really the best. One of my favorite nuggets of wisdom goes like this: "Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their own level and then beat you with experience." Don't bother arguing, instead just try to break and abuse their rules to the extreme. Teach them the hard way why Smogon made the rules that exist. What can I say, I enjoy bashing arrogant noobs. Either that, or just ignore them. Think of them like a pack of yappy chihuahuas, they're all bark and no bite.

If Theorymon (the ubers player) can dominate in Ubers with Wobbuffet + Lucario, you can do a great job destroying them without their legendaries.

Use Wobbuffet to Encore a stat upper or move you will resist, switch to Scizor or any sweeper with priority and dominate.

I generally don't use legendaries, and I frown upon my opponents using them, but I'll battle them if faced with them. I just don't use them myself. Personal preference. On my cousin's PBR, I did a random wifi battle once- I wish I could've seen the look on my opponent's face as his/her Dialga fell to my Dunsparce!

Battle Tower only bans 670/680 Ubers and event-only pokémon; the Tower Tycoon uses Regigigas and Cresselia, IIRC. There's really no "ingame basis" for them to ban all legends.

Aren't you a unique snowflake. Are you sure you're eighteen?

What type of retard player is your opponent for losing his dialga to your dunsparce. and same goes for you using your dunsparce.

DUNSPARCE!
What a legendary pokemon. What actually is it? No-one knows.

You could build two teams, one with accepted OU legendaries, and one without, or, tell them that, no matter what they do, you're going to comply with standard competitive rules. It'll sound impressive and official when you say it.

I agree with Jibaku, just show them why Garchomp and Wobbuffet are banned and how stupid they are for not using legends. You should be fine.

I'm afraid that won't work. I've dealt with these kind of people before and I've been called cheap for using Entei on a Mono-Fire team. They're also the same bunch of people who said that DPP was a metagame that "favors walls" and think moves like Spikes and Stealth Rock are useless. I've tried to talk to them before but they're just immune to any form of logical reasoning whatsoever.

Oh well.

It's like when they set rules for sports, abuse and stretch them to the extreme. If they don't want to battle with legends? Show them a Garchomp and Wobbuffet and see how they like it then.

I too, have a friend who hates legends, even the lesser ones like the various Trios to the point where he won't battle me if I use them. So I just crack out the Garchomp.

I think these are the two options you should follow. Abuse their rules to the limit and show them why Garchomp and Wobuffet are really banned.

They ban Legendaries? Is Rotom considered legendary? Zapdos certainly is. So is Heatran. And Suicune. You know where I'm going with this, right? Scizor or Lucario sweep! The Wobb idea is probably the best. Encore + Shadow Tag to get a free Swords Dance, and then sweep away. Scizor gets props because they'll try to tell you you're cheating for using Bullet Punch.

lol, just fight by their rules and win with Chomp and Wob. Also if they're going to hack 999 stat Pokemon do that as well...play at their level. Wondertomb and various things they probably don't know how to counter.

Now for something relevant to the actual thread. The best way to beat noobie players is simply stall. A simple skarm/bliss/gyarados core will beat any noobie player easily. just use stall and yolu win

Everything that can be said about this has been said and the topic is just going in circles now without any relevant discussion.
