Rules:
5v5 Singles
ASB Arena
Strict 96h Disqualification. One warning per player. If pupil gets DQ'd twice, he can be kicked out by tutor. If tutor is DQ'd twice pupil may ask for replacement.
2 Recoveries / 5 Chills per Pokémon.
Three Substitutions per player excluding KO Substitutions.
Switch = OK
Abilities = ALL
Items = ON
Mega: One
Sendout = Tutor sends out first.

Special Battling 202 Mentorship Rules:

The twist is: any and every move made by pupil must be justified. And if the Tutor doesn't accept the justification or knows of an action-set that accomplishes the same more efficiently, he may demand the pupil to reorder, resend the team, send out a different pokemon or a different item, or to explain further his strategy, until the tutor is satisfied. Yes, this means that "surprise" won't be a good strategy to use here, simply because of how unreliable that is. The tutor won't need to justify whatever, so surprise remains a good option for him.

Terrible repetitive plays from the pupil may cause the tutor to call a DQ, with the approval of the Manager of the course This program is for mildly experienced players. If you don't much idea of how things work, then the best way to fix it is with practice, not this program. Same way: if you are bringing your A-Game, then why bother?

And may god have mercy on my soul and make me not go insane.

Okay so let's see what we've got.

First off, thank you for not bringing Kangaskhan considering I single-handedly lost two tournament battles at the same time because of it.

Camerupt and Fidgit exist, so I'm not using Aggron first. Fidgit and Conkledurr exist, so I'm not using Pyroak. Camerupt, Fidgit, and Camerupt exist, so I'm not using Kitsunoh.

So that leaves me with Skill Frog and Dragonite, who are probably my two best general-purpose leads anyway. Greninja struggles somewhat against Conkledurr but handily beats the rest of your team (and struggles somewhat against Deoxys but Kitsunoh is the only Pokemon on my team that does even close to decently against that fatass). Dragonite actually does quite well against everything on your team besides Deoxys, so neither of them has a huge matchups edge.

As I alluded to earlier, the key Pokemon for me to remove looks like it'll be Deoxys. It's extremely fat and difficult for any of my Pokemon besides Kitsunoh to actually damage, and can drop all sorts of entry hazards and Taunt and Torment to make my life miserable. Leading with Dragonite is likely to result in you responding with Deoxys and dropping lots of entry hazards, which cripples Pyroak and Dragonite. Skill Frog has the advantage of a faster Taunt than Deoxys, but will get destroyed in a straight up damage race. However, I can work shenanigans with U-Turn to get a more favorable matchup if that scenario occurs. All this tells me that (surprise surprise) Skill Frog is my best bet for a lead.

For an item...assuming I always hit SE, Expert belt gives effectively +3 damage per hit, and Rare Candy gives +2.25 on the first attack of a given type and +3.75 for each subsequent attack. Those each average out to 3, so I'll go with RC because I do expect to be the same type for multiple attacks.

Fusoya (Greninja) #Rare Candy

I can't think on any situation where sending out Greninja to order first is a bad idea. Doesn't stop me from trying to counter it tho.

Agahnim the Deoxys-D with RageCandyBar.

Knock Off - Thunderbolt - Ice Beam
IF
Greninja is to use a Damaging-Evasive move AND NOT in a combo AND Greninja did NOT use a suspended D/E on the action prior AND Greninja is faster than Deoxys THEN Stealth Rock on the first instance and Spikes on the second and third instances AND push back
IF Entry Hazards AND not in a combo THEN Magic Coat and push back
IF Greninja is NOT Psychic Typed AND NOT Ghost Typed AND NOT Flying Typed AND NOT Fairy Typed AND NOT Bug Typed THEN Drain Punch on the first instance, Focus Blast on the second and Drain Punch on the third and push back

You faced that exact same situation before. I hope you can capitalize on it this time.

Okay so basically nothing in my team besides Kitsunoh can scratch Deoxys. And I want to preserve Frog to fight your three Ground types. Therefore, chicken dance it is.

Do I really need to explain Kitsunoh?? Rare Candy is a pretty obvious item choice as it profits me more damage than Expert Belt and I don't want to send anything to fight Deoxys-D with a Life Orb.

Kitsunoh #Rare Candy

Full disclaimer: I have in fact read your battle vs. Texas in AOT. I uh...don't really want to do things that way. Mostly because I'm not convinced Texas' strategy is going to work. My basic goal here is to turn this matchup into a damage race, which I win by a bit, and then force you to switch out and take matchup control from there. I'm going to go with the base action set Taunt ~ Super Fang ~ Shadowstrike. I know dry taunting is generally a bad idea, but I'm pretty convinced it's worth it when going up against a Pokemon as fat and with so many shenanigans as Deo-D. So I'm now trying to figure out what to use my 3 subs for. I definitely want "IF P/E THEN Imprison (Taunt, Knock Off, Torment) the first instance and Chill the second and pushback". I was considering throwing Phantom Force on the second instance, but battle against Deo-D are highly prone to turning into EN stall wars. Because I'm running Taunt, I need a Magic Coat sub; I'm thinking alternate damage and Chills. Lastly, Knock Off would be pretty annoying here. I don't think I can really prevent Knock Off if you want to combo it, but at least I can use Phantom Force (which is a seriously broken move) to make your life a little harder.

Taunt ~ Super Fang ~ Shadowstrike
IF P/E THEN Imprison (Taunt, Knock Off, Torment) the first instance and Chill the second and pushback [Nonconsecutive]
IF Deoxys is under the effects of Magic Coat AND you are to use Taunt THEN Shadowstrike odd instances and Chill even instances, and pushback
IF Knock Off NOT in a combo THEN Phantom Force and pushback

I don't like P/E subs because there is usually something better to cover here.

For example (and this is an obscure one, so it is indeed not something people would think on a first or second or third glance), pwnemon did a very nice (and expensive) Teleport (Evasive) + Teleport (Switch) combo once in the BoB finals. It is the only non-ridiculous way to not be trapped here (or not be forced to switch as you want) and without it I would be forced to play your game. Ignoring for a second the calcs for the actual damage race (as I didn't run them yet), you require something to cover for that if you want to keep going with that strategy.

smashlloyd20

If I'm going to dry Taunt I need a P/E sub IMO. I think the best sub to drop to cover that Teleport combo is the Knock Off sub, because although it does cause me to lose the damage race it's better than being Taunted, you not being Taunted, or Taunting uselessly. I don't think I can actually prevent the Teleport combo, so my best bet is just to do a lot of damage if you choose to use it.

IF Teleport (Evasive)+Teleport (Switch) THEN initiate action string Shadowstrike ~ Phantom Force ~ Shadowstrike

fair enough.

Isn't Phantom Force better to be used against P/E and against Teleport Combo? It deals more damage and passes through P/E maneuvers.

Yeah, I guess I can try to put in Phantom Force more. So that leaves me with:

Taunt ~ Super Fang ~ Shadowstrike
IF P/E THEN Phantom Force the first instance and Chill the second and pushback [Nonconsecutive]
IF Deoxys is under the effects of Magic Coat AND you are to use Taunt THEN Shadowstrike odd instances and Chill even instances, and pushback
IF Teleport (Evasive)+Teleport (Switch) THEN initiate action string Phantom Force ~ Shadowstrike ~ Phantom Force

You started well, but let's see if you can develop this matchup well also.

Icy Wind - Knock Off - [EAT RAGE CANDY BAR] Dark Pulse

No miss from either party please. Roll everything else normally.

Holy fuck

your mentor is awful, I must say

Dark Pulse - Fire Punch - Thunder Punch
IF
Speed-Lowering move THEN Icy Wind AND push back
IF Ghost-Typed Damaging move AND Deoxys is to move before Kitsunoh within the same priority bracket THEN Dark Pulse AND push back
IF 15hp substitute THEN Fire Punch and push back

Alright so...

Shadowstrike does 12.5 damage. Phantom force does 14. You have 51 HP, which means you die to PF ~ SS ~ PF ~ SS. Dark Pulse does 14.25 damage a pop, so my plan is to eat 3 Dark Pulses this round, leaving Kitsunoh with 21 HP, and then take out Deoxys with Shadowstrike A1 next round when my Speed is back to normal. My main concern is getting flinched, but I don't really see anything I can do about that.

Phantom Force ~ Shadowstrike ~ Phantom Force

Ok

Assume you manage ro get to that specific result. which orders would you use to finish off deoxys ordering first? because if you dont manage that you are basically saccing kit.

Yeah, so this is tricky. Because Deoxys needs to go down to 1 HP after Endure and then the action has to end before it dies to Toxic, I can guarantee that Deoxys dies, but I don't see a feasible way to stop you from using a Shadow Ball/Fire Punch/Dark Pulse combo to take out Kitsunoh on the action that I knock you down to 1 HP. Theoretically I could do it with a Phantom Force combo because you don't have a single attack that knocks 21 HP off Kitsunoh, but that leaves me on cooldown which is even worse. So this is the best I can do: Deoxys will drop next round, but it appears that so will Kitsunoh (unless I'm missing something).

Shadowstrike ~ Shadowstrike ~ Shadowstrike
IF Deoxys is under the effects of P/E THEN Phantom Force and pushback [nonconsecutive]
IF Deoxys is under the effects of Endure AND Deoxys is not poisoned THEN Toxic and pushback

OK, let's continue our line of thought.

a) Is there any way I KO you without being KO'd? Including combos
b) Assume I manage to KO you through a combo and am forced to cool down. Would that be better to you than a double KO?
c) Which option for you is better? Double KO or you KOing through a combo and having to cool down right after?

And tell me why. Depending on the option you pick, this might go different routes.
