That screenshot with Natalie was taken on February 13th, 2024, so this has been a long time coming. After getting to #2 on the ladder 7 other times since that screenshot, I finally managed to break through and peak for the first time since Pre-Home when I was spamming Gholdengo Spikes with Scarf Miraidon. My relationship with SV Ubers has been a very tumultuous one, especially after Miraidon wasn't banned, especially after a disastrous 2-3 UWC and 0-2 UPL. With SCL approaching, I decided to start building and laddering again with the hopes of getting picked up. Unfortunately, I wasn't, but that's okay. I continued to use the one of the teams I built to ladder in my free time. Which leads me to here. Big shoutout to Natalie for being my biggest supporter during this climb, always encouraging me to keep pushing and finally peak.

Building Process:
In all my building and testing, I realized something. Ho-oh is a bastard. This mon is actually insane, it owns almost every team with the defensive sets. So with that in mind, I really wanted to build around offensive Ho-oh to really take advantage of the fact it has no reliable switch ins. Ho-oh obviously appreciates sun support, so Koraidon was the next choice. Since I was running offensive Ho-oh, I needed to be much sturdier vs Koraidon than most Ho-oh teams, which lead me to Arceus-Fairy. The last 3 mons all kinda came together at the same time. Kyogre, Kingambit, and Lando-T help round out the team and deal with most of the big threats in the metagame.

The Team:
:SV/Ho-oh:
Ho-Oh @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Brave Bird
- Sacred Fire
- Recover
The bastard mon itself. Offensive Ho-oh has such limited long term switch ins in this metagame. Even the most sturdy ones like Waterceus and Fairyceus don't want to be burned by Sacred Fire or take repeated Brave Birds. With Regen, even offensive Ho-oh can stay alive most of the game, which helps it come in and batter the opposing team several times in a game. Ho-oh serves as the main breaker for this team, with Sub taking advantage of the many switches it forces. Sub also helps protect Ho-oh from paralysis and burn (post tera) to keep its longevity and breaking power intact. Recover is obviously to keep Ho-oh around even longer since Sub + recoil does take its toll on the mon. Tera Flying to help Ho-oh break through the bulkier checks like Arceus, and allows it to break stall (baring Garg) fairly easily. As for EVs, I decided that 250 Speed would be enough to outspeed most of the bulkier mons in the meta, while still maintaining a bit of bulk in HP (As I'm writing this I've learned that this is slower than the calc spread, so it's probably best to hit 254 then). This mon was truly the star of the show the whole time I was laddering.

:SV/Koraidon:
Koraidon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Orichalcum Pulse
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Outrage
Koraidon is probably the least interesting Pokemon on the team. The standard Scarf set allows it to serve as a very nice pivot for Ho-oh and Kyogre, while still working as a passable revenge killer. I'm a big believer of Close Combat being better than Low Kick on Scarf Koraidon, as the extra damage vs Tera Gliscor and Ho-oh can be very valuable and the defense drops rarely come into play. Tera Fire was chosen over Tera Ghost because I found I needed extra damage in endgames rather than the Extreme Speed and Low Kick immunity that Ghost provides.

:SV/Arceus-Fairy:
Arceus-Fairy @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Multitype
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Recover
- Judgment
Given the general lack of defensive utility that offensive Ho-oh provides, I really needed a good switch in to Koraidon, which is why Arc-Fairy is here. I originally tested CM sets, but they just didn't fit as well as I would have liked, so I switched to support. TWave is extremely valuable in slowing things down for Ho-oh to break easier. It also helps Ho-oh fish for paras with Sub, which can absolutely break games when it happens. I elected to put Rocks on this to open up another slot on Lando-T to help with the HO match up, and Arceus is generally a very consistent Rocker. 40 Speed allows it to outspeed most of the very defensive Arcs while not cutting into bulk drastically. Tera Water is once again to help improve the Koraidon and Calyrex-Ice match ups, but it also helps a lot with Zacian-C assuming TWave hits.

:SV/Kingambit:
Kingambit @ Air Balloon
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
The second star of the team. Gambit allowed almost any end game to be playable. Despite being an OU mon, Gambit still does the same thing in Ubers. The combination of Swords Dance and Sucker Punch is able to clean up most weakened teams, and depending on the number of Supreme Overlord boosts, Swords Dance might not even be needed. Kowtow and Iron Head are strong enough stabs with Supreme Overload to help Gambit break through most bulky mons. Max HP invest allows Gambit to live a surprising amount of hits in the late game where it only needs 1 turn to boost and clean up the game. Tera Fire helps massively in last mon situations vs Ho-oh, Wisp Arceus, and Koraidon. I debated a lot between Air Balloon and Black Glasses, but decided on Air Balloon to help vs NDM and Arceus-Ground that could otherwise be issues. The one change I think could be made is investing some more speed on Gambit so it outspeeds most paralyzed Arceus, but I much preferred the extra bulk max HP provides.

:SV/Kyogre:
Kyogre @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Drizzle
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 200 Def / 60 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Wave
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
The other mon I often refer to as a bastard mon. While it has some anti-synergy with the sun aspect of this team, Kyogre adds an invaluable special breaker and secondary Koraidon switch in. Defensively, Kyogre also helps stave off NDM, Arceus-Ground, Ho-oh, Kyogre, EKiller, and Calyrex-Ice which all can overpower the other 5 mons. TWave adds another layer of paraspam to the team, which makes it really obnoxious to deal with. Standard 3 attacks helps Kyogre hit the tier very hard, and I often found that Thunder was more valuable that CM in testing as Kyogre couldn't stay on the field long enough to set up. Modest allows Kyogre to deal damage, which is what I needed, while the bulk allows it to take on the aforementioned threats. Tera Ghost has won me several games against Ekiller and Koraidon that can otherwise get out of control. In general, Ghost is a very good Tera type in this meta as many mons don't have super effective coverage for it.

:SV/Landorus-Therian:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rock Tomb
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Taunt
The obligatory Ground Type of the team is Lando-T. Every team in Ubers absolutely requires an Electric immunity, and Lando-T fit what I was trying to do the best. Providing even more security against physical attacks with Intimidate and Rocky Helmet, Lando made a great pivot in almost every game. I elected to not run Rocks on this set in order to have Rock Tomb, which helps out massively vs set up Koraidon, Arceus-Ground, NDM, and even Arceus-Fairy. It also helps in hitting Ho-oh if you manage to dodge the Sacred Fire burn (although it only does 50% and scares them out lmao). U-turn provides very necessary pivoting to make Lando not nearly as passive, while Taunt allows it to stop opposing set up in conjunction with Rock Tomb. When calcing out a potential spread, I found that the drop in bulk that would occur to get relevant speed was not worth it vs Zacian-C and Koraidon. Tera Fairy to help further vs Scale Koraidon and the occasional Miraidon.

Threat List:
:Arceus-Ground: CM sets can get out of control very quickly and often require several mons to break. Usually Lando-T and Kyogre have to be sacked in order to have a chance of breaking through CM Ground.
:arceus-ghost: CM sets once again pose and issue because there is no Ghost resist, but is only seen on webs currently.
:arceus-fairy: only problematic set is CM ID, but that set is prone to crits and paras that it'll often have to risk.
:miraidon: Okay so obviously with no Ting-Lu or Arceus-Ground, Miraidon poses a massive threat to this team. Luckily, Lando-T actually lives Draco from boots more often than not. Miraidon is also usually forced to switch into Ho-oh, which chips it into range of Koraidon or Kingambit. Miraidon requires a lot of good predictions and scouting in the early game to figure out the set and play around it.
:ho-oh: lol there's no ho-oh switch in. Once again requires a few mons together to take it down, but is very vulnerable to paralysis.
:ribombee: (webs) Webs is one of the most difficult HO mus. In order to pilot around the webs mu, you have to heavily lean on Arceus and Lando to chip things down into Gambit range as Koraidon is no longer a reliable revenge killer.
:zacian-crowned: Similar to Miraidon, there isn't a dedicated Zac-C switch in. Lando and Koraidon are usually enough to take it down, but one of them will likely die in the process.

polt god where do I even begin. So many of my best memories from this site involve you. Whether it be laddering together, building for tour games, sitting in call and sniping LT people, or even playing whatever other games we are into at the time, you’ve always been around. I have no idea why you decided to stick around me for so long when I’ve given you so many opportunities to justifiably leave. Thank you for everything, I can’t express how much I appreciate you. We should meet up again when I'm back home for Christmas so you can give me my books back...

Celestiial It’s only been a year since we’ve met, but you’ve had the biggest impact on me out of anyone that I’ve known. You’ve always been around when I need it and like polt have chosen to stay even with the many justifiable opportunities to leave. Your drive to get better at whatever you do motivates me more than you could ever know. Seeing you improve makes me want to improve as well. I love watching you improve and succeed, and I’m glad you’ve taken my advice to heart when it comes to Pokemon. You’re so insanely talented and dedicated to what you do, and I’m glad that I happened to join call that day when you were there for us to meet. Thank you for everything, I don’t know where I would be without you.

Aberforth You are the only reason I even had a chance to be good at this game. The fact that you would and still do sit and talk to me about how to improve is insane to me. I’ve looked up to you as a player and builder for a long time, and the advice you’ve given to me has stuck with me throughout the years. I can’t believe you listen to me talk about these metagames like I actually know anything. Thank you for all the opportunities to prove myself as a player and a builder over the last year, I wouldn’t be where I am now without them. More than anything though, you’ve been another fantastic friend that I truly don’t deserve, thank you.

Fc Another person who I looked up to that became a good friend. I’m glad we talk, even if our conversations are quite dumb most of the time. I've greatly enjoyed taking over UUbers with you. You are one of the best people to build and test with that I've ever met. I love teaming with you for tours and all the prep help you give me for both Ubers and UUbers. Especially recently, I'm very happy that I get to call you my friend. I’m so glad we met in Will’s server 3 years ago.

Nyx and abriel Two people I wouldn’t have met if not for Aberforth randomly inviting me to an Ubers draft league one day. I love spending time in call with you talking about whatever the topic may be, especially the more recent laddering and building calls, despite what it may seem like with my lack of time in the server. I still care about both of you a lot.

Vertigo The person who I’ve met the most recently to get their own shout out. I’ve greatly enjoyed talking with you and helping you improve at 6v6. We are very similar when it comes to a lot of things, and that makes our conversations enjoyable. To quote you, “It was one of those things where you meet because of mutual friends and it ends up having a positive impact on your life.” I look forward to talking with you a lot more and seeing your improvement in Ubers.

Swas We reconnected recently, but I enjoy our discussions in the mornings and evenings, regardless of the topic. And no, I'm not gonna start watching anime.

Satanic Beast crow crumbs DripLegend TyCarter db and Natalie I greatly enjoy talking with all of you in our discord. You guys make my experience so much better and are always around to talk when I need it. Thank you for encouraging me to try again.

Finchely Imperial vesp and BigFatMantis Thank you for being so welcoming when I was getting into UUbers because I know I wasn't exactly the nicest. I greatly enjoy talking with all of you, and hope to keep doing so. It's been great seeing all of you improve as the metagame gets more complex and the player base gets better.

zioziotrip OreoSpeedruns Highlord Luthier and MANNAT Thank you so much for the opportunity to help out US Midwest this year. I learned so much from being in that server and being able to prep for an official. I loved talking with everyone in Midwest whether it was about mons or anything else. I especially enjoyed our discussions in the Ubers chat. I hope my help was valuable, even if it was only in 1 slot.

Thank you for reading! Hopefully I won't be doing another one of these until Gen 10, as it means I'll have finally broken my ladder addiction.

actual scam :psycry:

okay but fr you're still my goat. The support you provided during WCOP to both me and Highlord was absolutely invaluable, and despite how UPL went for you I have absolutely no regrets picking you up. Hopefully before gen 10 we can finally get miraidon out this tier :copium:

Grats on the peak man! Tough team, I don't really have any suggestions. Pretty sure you smoked me on the ladder once lmao
