Well, the log you used was from netbattle, and I'm not sure how many good quality players are on there. Obviously, Ariados is a novelty pokemon and does have it's uses. There are however, it's abysmal base stats, no great movepool exists yet that could drag ariados up.
 
im going to hope along with yubel and say he will get an Evo next gen =D

He had a pretty good run in that battle you had there, it really depends on your situation, and your whole team for the matter. I mean his base stats are not as good as some others making him heavily outclassed.

His move pool however say otherwise, well the one you used at least. He'd definitely fit in with the UU, but probably not so much in the OU. Of course thats just my opinion =P

Once again i really hope he gets an EVOLUTION next gen xD
 
At what point did I say Ariados beat the whole team?

Like I said before (please, for the love of God learn to read posts?) Ariados doesn't die in one hit, like Smeargle. And he doesn't get Magnet Pulled like Foretress. Unlike Drapion and Tentacruel, he has the insomnia ability and can absorb sleep. Night Shade is a big help too, it's useful in the same way Blissey pulls off siesmic toss (to hurt things it can only 0.5, works well against Dusknoir, Skarm and Shuckle) Also, unlike Smeargle and Foretress (and let's drag Cloyster into this while we're at it) Ariados eliminates Toxic Spikes upon entry.
 
ok i think there have been some good arguments made throughout about what ariodos can do...

1) toxic spikes is cool and the set mentioned doesn't seem half bad but its not like he's going to be able to come in time and again because of SR weakness to bring those spikes back up where as others can (tent for example)

2) spider web passing, yeah that's probably killer in NU but umbreon is like even viable to do that in OU (and he's UU so thats even conpitition to ariodos in UU tier). But seriously, the set is so much more reliable and effective on umbreon and also he gets wish, killer defences and SR neatrality

he wouldn't be terrible in NU but lets not kid ourselves here in using him in OU. Although its always fun to use these pokemon in upper tiers (because half the time people dont know what they can do because they never see them), your not going to win a tonne of matches unless you have a super team of 5 and dont use the little spider...
 
It's strange to me that you feel Ariados has some decent defensive capabilities. Literally, the entire OU tier either OHKOs or 2HKOs him after Stealth Rock damage. On Smeargle I assumed Explosion. On Pokemon who aren't known for their attacking power (such as Suicune and Tentacruel) I assumed neutral attacking nature and 0 Attack or Special Attack EVs.

Ariados can do a pretty good job in NU as a trap passer, but thats it. Never, ever use this thing in OU.
 
In UU, it's possible, since Stealth Rock is easier to keep off the field there, but I honestly can't see Ariados being valid at all in OU. It does a decent job of countering Breloom, but its base stats are total trash and its movepool is at best "good," not "excellent" or "amazing" or something of that sort.
 
If this thing gets an evo in the gen after Soul Silver and Heart Gold (Like Red and Leaf there are no evos -_-) it will be pretty beast because as you said it's got a pretty sweet move pool.
 
Nitpicks...

Also, poison types can use black sludge, which will mess up those TrickZams, Jirachis, Bronzongs etc..

What Trick Alakazam would use Trick on purpose on an Ariados when Psychic works just as well? Same with the other two (sometimes - not all Bronzong carry psychic moves and i have no clue about Jirachi).

I don't see how this is better than... Beedrill. And by that I mean they both suck. Bee can pass Agility and Swords Dance (Baton Pass is an XD move for the gamecube-less) and has 35 more speed. It gets Pursuit too.
 
Yeah, this topic has ran its course. Ariados is a novelty Pokemon and NU for a reason, there is nothing to discuss here, as evidenced by the fact of what this thread has turned into now.
