Amoonguss is a decent wall in the tier with a solid defensive typing that allows it to check Pokemon such as Barraskewda, Mimikyu, and Rhyperior. Amoonguss is more flexible and less prone to being passive than similar walls such as Chesnaught due to its access to Regenerator. With a myriad of support moves such as Stun Spore and Toxic, Amoonguss can make progress against the opposing team by crippling them with status conditions, as well as being a good pivot to threats. However, Amoonguss matches up poorly against common threats in the tier such as Armarouge, Galarian Zapdos, and Mamoswine. It is also prone to being setup fodder against threats it's normally supposed to check, such as Taunt + Calm Mind Fezandipiti and Substitute + Calm Mind Suicune. Finally, due to having poor offensive prowess, Amoonguss can easily be overwhelmed by VoltTurn cores despite having Regenerator.

Giga Drain allows Amoonguss to hit Water-types such as Slowbro, Politoed, and Barraskewda while allowing it to recover its HP, which is especially useful, since it otherwise can only heal with Regenerator. Stun Spore is a great support move that allows Amoonguss to paralyze foes such as Gengar, Slither Wing, and Krookodile, providing good utility for the team and punishing aggressive players by paralyzing Pokemon such as Galarian Zapdos and Noivern. Sludge Bomb can be used to hit Flying-types such as Noivern, Salamence, and Talonflame on the switch in, potentially crippling them with poison. Sludge Bomb deals decent damage to Galarian Weezing and is decent against Umbreon, as it does not want to get poisoned. Toxic is a great support move that can be used over Sludge Bomb to punish switches that would otherwise match up well against Amoonguss, such as Volcanion and Noivern, and it also cripples Chesnaught, which otherwise can set up Spikes on Amoonguss. Foul Play lets Amoonguss punish offensive Pokemon trying to set up on it, such as Gyarados, Feraligatr, and Mimikyu. Foul Play also prevents Pokemon like Jirachi and Gengar from switching into Amoonguss. Stomping Tantrum can be an option to punish Pokemon that are usually counters to Amoonguss such as Fezandipiti, Hisuian Goodra, and Magnezone, and it is great when paired up with Toxic due to having double power against the aforementioned Pokemon after Toxic fails. Rocky Helmet allows Amoonguss to punish U-turn users such as Slither Wing and Fezandipiti and threatens to KO Maushold. Heavy-Duty Boots is excellent on Amoonguss thanks to increasing its longevity. The EV spread ensures Amoonguss avoids being 2HKOed by Hyper Voice from Choice Scarf Hisuian Zoroark after Stealth Rock damage, Draco Meteor from non-Choice Specs Hisuian Goodra, and Sludge Wave from unboosted Gengar. The rest of the EVs maximize Amoonguss's physical bulk to ensure it can tank common attacks such as Knock Off from Krookodile and U-turn from Slither Wing better. Tera Steel is a solid defensive typing that allows Amoonguss to flip its Psychic weakness, allowing it to check Gardevoir, Jirachi, and Salamence while retaining its Toxic immunity. Tera Water allows Amoonguss to not get flinched down by Iron Head Jirachi and match up better against Volcanion and Mamoswine, which are common threats to Amoonguss, as well as allowing Amoonguss to retain the Water resistance. Tera Ghost allows Amoonguss to act as a spinblocker against Cyclizar and match up well versus Fighting-types.
Amoonguss is a good teammate in bulky offense and balance teams, especially teams based on spreading paralysis. It enjoys teammates like Slowbro that can deal with its threats such as Armarouge, Galarian Zapdos, and Mamoswine. Slowbro and Amoonguss make up a Regenerator core that can pivot into threats accordingly, and their types synergize well, since Amoonguss can deal with Pokemon that threaten Slowbro such as Slither Wing, Mimikyu, and Golurk. Pokemon that appreciate paralyzed foes are good teammates, such as Armarouge and Mamoswine, since they are strong but slower wallbreakers. Steel-types have an easier time dealing with Amoonguss, so Pokemon that can punish them are appreciated, such as Armarouge, Mamoswine, and Krookodile. Entry hazard removers like Noivern, Talonflame, and Cyclizar are useful, since Amoonguss is susceptible to being setup fodder for hazards. Offensive Pokemon such as Gardevoir, Choice Specs Hisuian Goodra, and Gengar enjoy Amoonguss's ability to blanket-check revenge killers like Hisuian Zoroark, Krookodile, and Slither Wing while still being able to keep the momentum thanks to Regenerator.

Other Options
====
Amoonguss can run Eject Button to act as a pivot, which is suitable on offensive teams because it allows Amoonguss to act as a blanket check to threats and give a safe switch in to a teammate. Alternatively, Amoonguss can also run Eject Pack + Leaf Storm to act as a pivot while dealing decent damage. Clear Smog can be used to stop setup sweepers such as Taunt Fezandipiti and Mimikyu. Amoonguss can run Synthesis to have reliable recovery, but this restricts its utility, since it has to choose between removing Sludge Bomb, Toxic, or Foul Play.
Checks and Counters
====
**Flying-types**: Galarian Zapdos, Oricorio-E, Noivern, and Salamence can threaten to beat Amoonguss with Flying-type STAB moves. Noivern and Oricorio-E are especially dangerous due to them commonly running Taunt, which denies Amoonguss from crippling them with status conditions.
**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Volcanion, Entei, and Armarouge can OHKO Amoonguss, while it cannot deal much damage in return. Volcanion in particular does not mind the paralysis, so it is particularly threatening.
**Wallbreakers**: Strong wallbreakers such as Mamoswine, Armarouge, and Bisharp can break through Amoonguss's bulk with strong STAB moves, and they have an easy time setting up on it.
**Psychic-types**: Psychic-types such as Jirachi, Slowbro, and Reuniclus can deal great damage to Amoonguss with their Psychic-type STAB moves, and Amoonguss cannot do much damage in return. Jirachi and Slowbro get crippled significantly by Stun Spore and Toxic, respectively, but Reuniclus shrugs off the status conditions, making it particularly threatening.
