Overview
########
Ambipom is a Normal-type with a powerful Fake Out and a great ability in Technician. Combine this with an excellent movepool and a great 115 Speed stat, and it's easy to see why Ambipom is one of the better offensive Normal-types in the tier. There are several downsides to Ambipom, however, including its inability to touch Rock- and Steel-types. Along with this, it also has less-than-average bulk, meaning it struggles to take most hits.

Moves
========
Fake Out is used in the first slot as it is an extremely strong priority move that, when combined with Life Orb, allows Ambipom to finish off a weakened Pokemon with ease. Knock Off is a great Dark-type move that removes the opponents item and also hits Ghost-types which are unaffected by Ambipom's Normal STAB moves. Pursuit can be used in the second slot, however, to trap Pokemon that are intending to switch or are possibly locked into an inopportune move. Double Hit and Return are extremely strong STAB moves that punch holes in anything that doesn't resist them. Double Hit provides the ability to break Substitutes and Focus Sashes, while Return has perfect accuracy. Finally, U-turn is used to help gain momentum for your team while also hitting Psychic- and Grass-types for super effective damage.
Set Details
========
252 EVs are dumped into Attack and Speed to maximize each stat. 4 Special Defense is also used to give Porygon-Z an Attack boost from Download. Life Orb causes Ambipom to hit like a truck and allows U-turn to cause a great deal of damage while keeping up momentum. With a Jolly nature, Ambipom is able to outspeed other threats such as Mienshao and Galvantula.
Usage Tips
========
There are several things about Ambipom that should be noted when using it. Fake Out should be used only when you are sure your opponent will stay in, and not switch into a check or counter. If you are able to predict a switch into a counter, you can either use U-turn out to gain momentum or Knock Off to cripple the incoming Pokemon. Ambipom should not be switching into any incoming attacks, as it isn't the bulkiest of Pokemon. Ambipom also appreciates dual screen support to help increase its survivability. Double Hit should be used to break either Focus Sashes or Substitutes. Lastly, Steel-types should always be eliminated before Ambipom tries to attack, as they stop it in its tracks.
Team Options
========
There are many teammates that compliment Ambipom well, and vice versa. Ambipom likes Pokemon to deal with Fighting-types, making Florges and Cofagrigus good partners. Ambipom also appreciates as little residual damage as possible, meaning Rapid Spin or Defog users are good teammates. Crobat can provide Defog support while at the same time dealing with Fighting-types for Ambipom. Fire- and Ground-types such as Chandelure and Nidoking make good teammates to deal with the Steel-types that wall Ambipom. Dugtrio is not only a Ground-type, but it can also trap and remove Steel-types for Ambipom thanks to Arena Trap.
Other Options
########
Ambipom has a very large movepool that contains several other options, albeit usually less useful. It has access to Baton Pass as well as a multitude of stat-boosting moves such as Agility, Nasty Plot, and Hone Claws. Fire Punch can be used for hitting opponents such as Forretress, and Low Kick can be used on Steel-types that would otherwise wall Ambipom entirely such as Mega Aggron and Lucario. Low Kick can also be used for opponents such as Scrafty which otherwise beat Ambipom one-on-one. Several other attacks that can be used include Ice Punch, Brick Break, Gunk Shot, Shadow Claw, Bounce, Iron Tail, Payback, and Low Sweep. Power-Up Punch is another Fighting-type move that can be used to raise Attack, and is also boosted by Technician. A gimmicky set of Fake Out and Last Resort can be used to have a physical 140 Base Power STAB move to hit things extremely hard. Ambipom has a large utility movepool including moves such as Rain Dance, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Sunny Day, and Switcheroo. A Normal Gem set can be run in tandem with Fake Out for a strong priority move. An Adamant nature can also be used for a more power.
Checks & Counters
########
**Steel-types**: Physically defensive Steel-types such as Mega Aggron have no trouble walling Ambipom and KOing it with relative ease.
**Sableye**: With Prankster Will-O-Wisp, Sableye can burn Ambipom and halve its Attack for the rest of the match. Sableye also takes no damage from Ambipom's STAB moves, and it can stall it out with Recover.
**Intimidate**: Intimidate users such as Krookodile and Arcanine lower Ambipom's Attack as well as its usefulness.
**Priority Users**: Priority such as Extreme Speed and Sucker Punch hurt due to Ambipom's poor physical bulk. Fighting-type priority such as Mach Punch and Vacuum Wave from the likes of Infernape and Lucario especially hurt.
**Choice Scarf Users**: Most Choice Scarf users such as Darmanitan and Mienshao can outspeed Ambipom and beat it easily.
**Rock-types**: Rock-types such as Ryhperior and Mega Aerodactyl do not take much damage from any of Ambipom's attacks and can OHKO back.
