Aggron (Screech)

Tried it out, but I couldn't get much mileage out of Screech. In most cases, just attacking outright was the best option. Screech seems good only if you don't know your opponent's Aggron counter or something.

I found similar results to Eo. I would rather use that slot for something else, because I was simply better off attacking 9/10 times.

Fair enough; but how does your Aggron fair against the likes of Donphan and Milotic (if running RP or CB of course).

vs (252 HP / 252 Def +) Milotic:

Jolly CB Head Smash: 69.5% - 81.9%
Adamant LO Head Smash: 66.4% - 78.1%

Can't switch in. Milotic really has no business coming in on Aggron.

vs (252 HP / 0 Def) Donphan:

Jolly CB Head Smash: 36.5% - 43%
Jolly CB Aqua Tail: 58.3% - 68.8%
Adamant LO Head Smash: 34.4% - 40.6%
Adamant LO Aqua Tail: 55.7% - 65.6%

Has major trouble switching into RP (as long as it doesn't switch into RP), while Choice Band can still destroy it with Aqua Tail on the switch. Of course, Screech would help ease prediction, but Substitute would generally be better since you're not risking whether or not the opposing Pokemon would switch.

The set works, it's just I'd rather use the last slot for something more effective and reliable.

Well people really do use their Milotic to counter Aggron. That's probably why RP Aggron hasn't been a suspect because she's usually the only answer to him for many teams.

I mentioned Substitute in AC because with LO Aggron would die way too quickly and be less effective because it limits the amount of times he can switch in on Swellow, for example. Substitute with something like Hard Stone would be possible, but than Aggron is too weak to kill off what he's supposed to, and there's the dilemma. I just prefer knowing that the opponents Milotic and Donphan are going to be eliminated. I guess I can change this to a Substitute + 3 attacks set if there's enough support for it, as they function pretty much the same, besides for much less survivability.

My main point was that RP / CB will absolutely run through Milotic and Donphan regardless (the LO variant can Head Smash + Aqua Tail for the 2HKO every time). The trouble is that this Aggron is risking the opponent not switching, while flat out attacking 2HKOes most Pokemon with no risk.

The problem is that the Rock Polish set doesn't OHKO these threats so he ends up being OHKOed instead.

Neither does the Screech set? It needs to hit them on the switch with Screech and then OHKO them when it could simply attack twice, like the CB / RP sets. The fourth moveslot can be used to gain a Speed boost at an opportune moment or for better coverage (with CB / any 4 attack set) rather than for a move that rarely has any use (keep in mind, Aggron can 2HKO both Milotic and Donphan without Screech, and Screech + an attack is the same thing as a 2HKO).

yeah i find myself agreeing with heysup/eo. the one downside to this is that you can't 2hko some stuff with head smash -> aqua tail although donphan still takes like 80% from the combo which is good enough for me. the premise of the set is solid (basically it's just a non choiced aggron) but that's how people should play the rock polish set anyways, imo, so it's not really something unique. this set is good, but i dunno why it should get its own set.

but i did find screech really useful when aggron got baton passed a sub... lol

But Adamant Aggron is too slow to kill Milotic with 2 hits before it dies off, and if you run Jolly than you hit too weak to eliminate Donphan/Rhyperior/whatever. And obvously the whole point is to hit them on the switch, or else you'd just be KOed.

But if that's what the majority thinks than I'm fine with just a mention in OC.

I'll go ahead and add a mention of Screech into the Aggron analysis on-site seeing as a consensus has appeared to be reached. If nobody else has anything to say, I'll go ahead and lock this thread shortly after. Here it is; tell me if you have anything to add or a better version.

Aggron can run Screech in order to beat some of its common counters. After a Screech, Head Smash OHKOes most Pokemon without a Rock resistance, and Donphan, Claydol, and Rhyperior are all KOed by Aqua Tail. Since it doesn't need an Adamant nature to attain these KOes, Aggron can run a Jolly nature, which allows it to outpace Milotic and OHKO it with Head Smash. However, most of Aggron's common switch-ins are 2HKOed by Head Smash or KOed by a Head Smash followed by the appropriate coverage move anyway, and as such, you are better off just outright attacking in most cases.
