Advanced Pokedex Searching

Sometimes a team needs some very specific niche pokemon that fulfills certain roles. It can be extremely hard to find these pokemon in our current Strategy Dex. I propose a system to narrow down the pokemon search. For example, there are several different categories that can narrow it. For example, if one were looking for a pokemon with access to Whirlwind, Taunt, and an immunity to Psychic attacks (kind of specific, but it's an example), one would first search "Dark-type" for the immunity to Psychic-type attacks. Next, they would search "Taunt" to narrow it down further. After the narrowed down results, they search "Whirlwind" and see the following pokemon: Honchkrow, Vuljina, and Drapion. To find those results in the current system, I had to go through the pages on whirlwind and taunt and see which Dark-types were listed on both. It took me about five minutes, which is longer than I would have liked. There are other options as well, such as "resistance to Ghost-type attacks" or "Over base 100 Speed" and such and such. I am not saying that we need a search engine on the strategy dex, as people mispell everything. I'm saying that we should tag each pokemon with certain things. For example, Crobat should be tagged with "Poison-type", "Ground immunity", "Over base 100 speed", "Super Fang", and such and such. We would then have a system that sorts through pokemon based on their tags. It would make team-building so much easier and much quicker.

There is a niffy thing almost exactly like this in the pokedex of pokemon online.

A tag system is inefficient. It makes us write out tags to rewrite information that is already part of each Pokemon. Tagging every Super Fang Pokemon with Super Fang is redundant because every Pokemon with Super Fang already has Super Fang in its listed movepool.

What you really want is a more comprehensive search that looks for this stuff.

Honestly, if you aren't willing to spend 5 minutes to find a pokemon for your team, you probably shouldn't be playing.

Not necessarily... if you aren't familiar with the particular tier you've been asked to play in or want to get into (I'm thinking NU and LC here), a tool like this could be pretty helpful, (assuming you could click an option to search certain tiers).

I agree that this would be a pretty cool idea. For example, I use a lot of gimmicks in tiers im unfamiliar with (like I made a SR + Spikes, and then use scarfed STAB Outrages in LC) so it would be cool to narrow down what Pokemon are both Dragon Typed and had Outrage.

hmm, searching by move on a moveset... interesting idea. Guess i'll add it to mu to do list. if i get to it, it'll be in a future update of my pkmgenerator.

a bit of an update, i did the whole search by moveset attack thing. there's quite a bit of bugs in my program now, so when i work out the general brunt of them, i'll do another release.

This has every kind of searching function anyone could ever want. It's not ideal in that it's separate from other tools, but it's really exactly what the OP is asking for.

EDIT: And I believe I may have misunderstood the intent of the proposal. If it is as TheLion states, that the intent was to search through movesets, then veekun's tool would not be as helpful. In that case, a google search of "smogon.com/dp/pokemon Taunt" would return all analyses containing that move. In conjunction with the search tool on veekun, it could allow for simple searching; it wouldn't be as quick as the tags that the OP proposes, or TheLion's tool, but it is possible to make the search much easier without implementing anything anything new.

oh, i was kinda under the impression that sax wanted to search through smogon movesets for any sets with a move, like taunt...
