2008 Olympics

I just simply have been looking for these for a looong time now. Watching the Olympics is just simply amazing, they are phenomenal athletes who capture teh imagination fo millions. I've been watching as much as possible today on nbcolympics.com

I'm a highschool XC/Track runner so what I look for is that 1500/5000 doubel from Laggat. And basicallye evry track event is justs imply gonna be blazin. Also the us has Micheal Phelps. He holds World Records in several events and has been setting records since the age of 15. He coudl bring home 8-9 gold medals!! That's amazing. And man oh man with Tyson looking fro that gold in teh 100 meter (he cramped up and failed to qualify in the 200 meter unfortunatly so no double gold for him).

My personal favorite is Leonel Manzano (1500 meters). he won't win teh event but he's just and idol of mine, especailly after the way eh won the NCAA championship iin the 1500.

Aaaaah a fellow track runner on these forums; we have four captains for outdoor next year (me being one of them), and 2 of us play. I don't think Leo is going to win, especially over Lagat. My friend isn't a fan of Bernard because he's just become an American citizen and he thinks it's unfair, but that's part of what makes America great: different people being able to come here and share what skills they have. And this could be one of the best 100 meter fields in olympic history.

I wasn't going to contribute to this thread, but I just found out a guy I beat in provincials like 5 or 6 years ago in wrestling is an olympian now for team Canada! At least that's the buzz on the streets around here. Go figure, him and I were national champions in different weight classes at the same time!

Small world. Anyone else know some olympians?

Two gold medals and a bronze for team GB so far! Doing pretty well. The second gold and the bronze were from athletes who weren't even competing in their specialist event, so we stand a pretty good chance. Currently either 3rd or 4th in the medal standings, I think.

I know the australian woman's pentathlete Angie Darby.

There was a bit of a stink kicked up by Greece over her inclusion, as apparantly her qualification wasn't done properly or something? Anyway, the appeal was witheld and she's competing now. Great athlete, i've been out dancing with her on many an occasion.

If the men's US team doesn't win gold, it will be a major letdown.
The "Dream Team" to the "Redeem Team"?
Coach K won't be able to look himself in the mirror.
Go USA!

I dont actually know any personally but I've seen Michael Phelps a few times around Ann Arbor, mostly getting food. And yes, he does look like a freak in person, his arms are insanely long.

I only watch the olimpics to see phelps, soccer and basket

But well,go argentina and france(i really dont trust argentina this time...the basket team seems to be in bad shape...)

well they do have live streaming of every single sport for just about every country on nbcolympics.com. It's good quality videos too. But I have to agree on tv its all been centered on the US. And limited to gymnastics/swimming and then basketball and vollyeball. Soon though its going to be all about the track events (wich is sweet). I think though thats the way to get the most views becasue those are the things that people like to see.

No, but my mom used to work with one of the guys who won gold in Athens for rowing, and one of the teachers at my summer school was in an event for USA in Atlanta. There's a couple more, can't remember (they're from various unimportant connections anyhow.)

Come on now, thats true in every country.

Broadcast is always centered around your own national athletes.

My family in france was talking to me about some highlights that they saw about soccer, and all I could muster up was, "umm".

Then a friend of mine in Croatia was talking about the amazing tennis game with Nadal. Once again, after watching ESPN for 45 minutes, all I learned about was Phelps, and the odd "LeBron dominated Angola". I happened to catch a few scores on the side bar though.
On NBC it's worse. :S It could be said though that the US has more impressive athletes than other countries, so they focus on them. Phelps is amazing, don't get me wrong, but I wanna see something else. There are dozens of events I haven't seen anything of.

I'd really just like it if they had Olympic center type of thing on TV where it shows all the extraordinary events of the day, instead of just the ones with USA in them

I like watching the Olympics, since it's something BIG, not just minor games (Which I don't care about).

Swimming was pretty awesome, even though Canada set it's record in 8th place for relay or medley (Can't remember which). Pick up the pace there Canada. <_<

Though, I think they won Gold in row boating?
