I love the bug type. It may be anemic but my love for the type will never waver, I intend to defend the bug type to my last breath. Before you lay a treatise, no a manifesto attempting to justify this type and build a team that might be able to win sometimes... under the right circumstances, as long as there aren't flying types. or dragons.

Ode to the bugs

They live in forests and in fields to crawl and fly and sting, the bug type Pokemon will soon spread their wings

They lack the coverage to attack or defend but they are the creatures who will fight and contend

Crawling and flying on legs of six, eight, or even two, let down your guard and they'll come for you

They are not popular or favored by the fans, they are the bug type Pokemon and I'll give them a chance

The Following outlay is the current team spread, please note that I have very little competitive experience but it seems like a good time, the roles are as follows. I'm pretty sure I stole this team from somewhere but I don't remember.

Masquerain: Varuna, God of ocean, sky, and water
The intended role of key support in this team running sash is to set up sticky web and rain dance with a hydro pump and hurricane for coverage and chip as well as to allow the threat of fire to lower in exchange for a hurricane warning that exists as an ever-present threat

Volcarona: Mothra, the titan to fell the Kaiju
The intended role of my Volcarona is as a setup sweeper running sitrus berry and quiver dance, I'd like to know if bulk or speed should be prioritized.

Scizor: Yasaka, the cold iron to bring down the fae
Scizor Exists as a scarfed physical technician primarily focused on quickly finishing off weaker mons and as per their namesake, pruning the rest of the team away

Araquanid: Svalinn, the shield which stops the sun
Araquanid serves as the main tank of the team, providing additional support with rain dance, scouting with protect, and some damage and sustainability with Leech Life and lefties, Liquidation gives an added boost to damage when used in tandem with Water Bubble and rain

My Bulk Physical sweeper with better coverage than about anyone else and the only real answer I have to electric teams.

Lokix: One Eye, the Carnifex
Lokix exists as a backup option to scizor alongside a potent knock-off Stab user and revenge killer with first impression and heavy duty boots, I don't know whether swarm or tinted lens would be better but I also just like this pokemon a lot.

Lol thx, it's less of a RMT and more of a manifesto proclaiming my personal commitment to this bit but many thanks. Also first post so lmk if there need to be any adjustments to avoid it getting wiped

I'll start off just clarifying that Rain Dance isn't a great option for Bug Builds, I've seen some people put together teams with Illumise where Illumise had Prankster Rain Dance/Wish, but these are kinda just gimmick builds end of the day. Also gonna just point out that Flying is nowhere near unwinnable for bug, and for most of Gen 9 Bug was entirely favored in this matchup. Even now it can be relatively easily teched for.

To start off with changes I'm gonna look at the sets themselves.
:Volcarona:
First off, don't run Sitrus. The opponent will get Stealth Rocks up before Volcarona switches in most of the time, and you'll end up with 75% after the berry is used just on switch in. Running no hazard removal can be a thing for bug, but you 100% need Heavy Duty Boots if you go this route. I'll also say that Heat Wave isn't the best option for a fire STAB. the increase in power to flamethrower is not worth the accuracy drop, and generally speaking I'd say you're better off running either Fiery Dance for the special attack boost, Flamethrower for the balance of power and acc, or Fire Blast for immediate damage end of the day. I personally don't think you need Bug Buzz on Volcarona, especially this gen I quite literally never run Buzz. Types that Bug Buzz hits super effective are already covered by your First Impression users, and you're better off opting for better coverage. If you want to stick with the Rain Dance shtick, I suppose you can run Hurricane, but usually rain dance is really counterintuitive with Volc due to it interfering with it's Fire Stab and Morning Sun recovery. I prefer Bulky Volc end of the day, I run a funky spread of 252hp/172 defense/28 SpA/56SpD with a timid nature, but you have a bit of leeway either way. Usually the moves it runs are Fiery Dance/Morning Sun/Quiver Dance/Will o Wisp or Psychic. Psychic helping it with some common answers like Pex, whereas Will o Wisp stops mons like Dragonite from beating it in a 1 on 1. If you want to do an offensive set, I imagine Timid nature may be more useful, and giga drain and psychic should both be considered.

:Scizor:
Scizor is great, an awesome revenge killer and setup sweeper. That being said you gotta change your set - do not run Scarf on it. The appeal of Scizor is +1 Priority Technician Bullet Punch, which is extremely threatening in of itself. A scarf not only is unneeded when Scizor has Bullet Punch, but ultimately is taking away from other viable options. If you run a Band for instance, it'll still be able to go first due to priority on Bullet Punch, but now will catch way more kills as well. Either way I'd say a Band, and a Swords Dance set with either Heavy Duty Boots, Metal Coat, or Metronome would all be more viable options. At a minimum Scizor should have 136 Speed, so it can outpace base 50 mons such as Azumarill and Kingambit.

:Lokix:
Tinted Lens should be run, it's the sole reason there's viability at all in Lokix. Detect though should be replaced. U Turn allows Lokix to act as an offensive pivot and would be an overall better option there. Lokix is a bit weak on it's own, Brick Break is viable for breaking screens but many people run Axe Kick to help with the extra damage boost. Also, there isn't any hazard removal on this team, but if there was I'd say a Band set is also viable. I will also bring up Lokix's Swords Dance set, which works great in conjunction with Sticky Webs.

:Slither-Wing:
Gonna start off by saying this shouldn't be your only real answer to Electric teams (Volcarona should be able to help there a bunch). I don't know if an assault vest is necessary, without hazard removal I'd imagine Heavy Duty Boots works better here, and you could run Morning Sun to help with longevity (that'd only work on rainless though). I would recommend getting rid of Wild Charge though, as the only pokemon of importance it really hits is Pelipper. Slither Wing also gets Earthquake, which entirely outclasses High Horsepower. First-Impression, though you're running on Lokix, I think is also a pretty important move to run for revenge killing. Non Banded Lokix by itself may struggle being the mon responsible for revenge killing with F.I, and generally speaking Slither is a bit more reliable here. Flare Blitz is also an option, to help with the Steel Cores Bug tends to struggle with.

:Araquanid: :Masquerain:
Putting these two together since they're both rain support, if you want to run Rain Dance so be it, but I still find the two a bit counterintuitive. Both pokemon are primarily Sticky Webbers, and Masquerain has been ruled outclassed by the other sticky web mons in the tier by now. Ribombee, Araquanid, and Galvantula all being either more reliable or offering more team support. In contrast, you could substitute Masquerain for mons such as Forretress, Kleavor, Frosmoth, etc. Forretress can remove hazards, Kleavor is a solid scarfer that can threaten fire teams with Web support, while also being a huge pressure on Flying builds thanks to Stone Axe setting up Stealth Rocks on impact.

Something like this may prove a bit more effective if you're willing to drop rain dance. https://pokepast.es/61ac5e59162a08f5 I replace Masquerain for Kleavor, which offers Stone Axe and U Turn support. Volc I made a more traditional offensive volc set to kinda match what you had, and I change Araquanid to be the sticky webber. Slither is a bulky pivot with Morning Sun, and Lokix and Scizor to SD sets.

Here are some other builds I made DLC2. There are more ways to try and make it function, though ultimately I still see bug as in a really rough spot since you autolose to Gouging Fire.
