Owing to its incredible Speed stat, which allows it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame, and access to utility moves such as Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Taunt, Deoxys-S is one of the best leads in the tier. Taunt allows Deoxys-S to prevent the foe from setting entry hazards, clearing hazards with Defog, and using Taunt, allowing it to keep the entry hazard war in its team's favor, as well as setup moves and Substitute from the likes of Zacian-C and Xerneas. Magic Coat allows Deoxys-Speed to prevent foes from using Taunt, setting entry hazards, and reflect back status conditions that may be targeted against it while importantly preventing the Ditto anti-lead. Skill Swap can be used in Magic Coat’s place to set hazards against Magic Bounce Pokemon, such as Mega Sableye and Mega Diancie. A Timid mature with maximum Speed investment is vital to outspeed all relevant Taunt users, Defoggers, and entry hazard setters. A Focus Sash is recommended for Deoxys-S for at least one or two guaranteed turns of setting up. Light Screen and Reflect can also be used in conjunction with Light Clay in order to provide dual screens support for a different type of offense.
Deoxys-S fits only on hyper offense, so Pokemon that fit on hyper offense and appreciate the hazard support work best as teammates. Grimmsnarl makes for a good partner, as its can set dual screens if Deoxys-S isn't running them, and it can take advantage of Prankster to potentially cripple Pokemon with Thunder Wave with the addition of denying Defog from Ho-Oh with Taunt. Yveltal appreciates the hazards set by Deoxys-S to wear down its checks, such as Chansey and Tyranitar. Xerneas, Zacian-C, and Mega Rayquaza can take advantage of the hazards Deoxys-Speed provides to sweep more efficiently with Geomancy, Swords Dance, and Dragon Dance, respectively. Spinblockers such as Arceus-Ghost, Mega Gengar, and Lunala prevent spinners, such as Excadrill and Smeargle, from removing the hazards set by Deoxys-S.
