move 4: Swords Dance / Stealth Rock
item: Life Orb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Drednaw's niche comes mostly from its ability to both pose a threat under rain with Swift Swim and strong, Life Orb-boosted attacks and set Stealth Rock by threatening out foes with its sheer power and good coverage. While Swords Dance is preferred to make Drednaw a better wallbreaker, Stealth Rock is an option to let it support its team better. After setting Stealth Rock, make use of Drednaw's boosted Speed under rain and solid offensive presence by firing off its strong STAB Liquidation and hitting predicted switch-ins with its coverage moves. Superpower is crucial so Drednaw isn't walled by Ferrothorn, although Earthquake is an option to hit Toxapex harder. Drednaw could compress both of these options by Gigantamaxing, but then it can't summon rain on its own with Max Geyser. Drednaw's EV spread, nature, and item are designed to make it as fast and strong as possible under rain.
Pelipper is mandatory alongside Drednaw for its Drizzle ability, which enables Drednaw's Swift Swim. Ferrothorn also pairs great with Drednaw, as it appreciates not having to run Stealth Rock, switches into Grass-type attacks aimed at Drednaw, and can support Drednaw by setting Spikes. Pokemon like Barraskewda, Dracovish, and Gyarados pair well with Drednaw, since they break down each other's checks, making it easier to clean late-game.
