Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
I'm guessing they will reveal at least one brand new Pokemon, on top of a bunch of older 'mons that live in the forest. It's a clever way to do some reveals by essentially showing us the wild encounters in an area.
So Glimwood Tangle (great name btw, very whimsical) filled with glowing mushrooms eh? I'm gonna call that a soft Morelull confirmation.
Glimwood Tangle appears to be pretty far off from our start point, being more comparable to later game areas like Berry Forest or Winding Woods. There is another wooded area that's right next to the first town which is probably this dark misty place (level ball).
I'm quite curious to find out what wild Pokemon are in Glimwood Tangle. Grass and Flying types are found in every forest, and Bug types are likely, as well as some kind of mammalian (rodent/ape/dog/cat) creature. It really depends on the theme of the area. Spooky and dark forests usually have Ghost types and nocturnal Pokemon (Eterna Forest, Winding Woods). A mystical or magical area could be home to more Fairy and Psychic types I guess?

Did a quick Google search (BTW and off topic, happy birthday Google, glad to hear your quantum computer is going great, now mind stop being jerks to Youtubers?) and found the UK has a few interesting crab species: Bristly Crab, a species of Porcelain Crab, and Masked Crab. Masked Crab sounds like the most interesting with the face-shaped shell and being a sand-burrowing crab (thus making it different from the river crabs the Krabby family are based on) but the Bristly and Porcelain Crabs match Kingler's body shape more (aka one small claw and one big claw). Since these crabs hide in sand or rock crevices (as least Masked and Porcelain, the thing which stands out about Bristly is its "hairy" appearance which the Porcelain sort of share), maybe Water/Rock-type with the Abilities affected by Sandstorm (Sand Force/Veil/Rush)?
I bet we can guess how this will go too:
- Sonia asks for our help to watch for new Pokemon and stuff on the livestream.
- Livestream happens, Pokemon that live in the area, both new and old, appear on screen. There is no indication of names/types for the new Pokemon so we’re left to speculate.
- Monday, October 7th another news post where Sonia thanks us for our help and says she’ll get her notes together and show off her findings soon.
- Wednesday the 9th a new Direct drops showing the stuff from the Livestream.
I LOVE this idea! Especially with them having a bit of a "story element". They could just say they're placing a "live footage" camera in the Glimwood Tangle and leave it at that, but they went the extra bit of detail with it being research done by Sonia.
95% of nothing happening (I'd be surprised if we collectively get more than 1 or 2 hours of stuff happening).
4% of Pokemon we already know about (though to make things interesting they'll probably be doing something either intriguing or entertaining).
.9% of something mysterious happening (a Pokemon cry we don't recognize, a shadow passes by the screen, a strange natural phenomenon happens like a different colored fog or mysterious lights, etc.. Maybe we'll see a person or at least their feet walk by we don't recognize)
.1% of a new Pokemon (or Galarain Form/Evo) quickly appearing (which a later Direct will maybe tell us about later... though kind of hope they don't, show another new Pokemon, and just let any new Pokemon who appear on this livestream remain a mystery)
Also curious how much effort did they put into the presentation. Like will it start with Sonia talking into the camera explaining what's happening (making this feel like a documentary), set the camera up and leave, and then at the end of the 24 hours comes back onto camera to give an ending statement (though would be funny if at some points the camera gets knocked over and she has to come in and fix it, maybe even commenting on things which have happened)? Will the Pokemon just be using their default animations or did they go out of there way to script and animate little scenes?

First I have doubts the location the Level Ball was placed we'll be able to even go into. Would like to, but reminds me how Let's Go's Kanto Map had obvious large areas of forest but we never went there.
Also, if Glimwood Tangle is indeed where that mushroom place is, getting a heavy Fairy-vibe from it. And if that is the case, it can be both mystic and spooky. Let's not forget that, while Pokemon does have it's cute Fairies, they also go into ye olde folklore about the fey folk. Prof. Almeida may be right we'll see Impidimp there as it's a pretty good representation how Faeries were described like during medieval times: wicked tricksters who can cause harm or worse.
Yeah, I'm expecting lot of Grass-, Bug-, and obviously Fairy-type. If any of the mushroom Pokemon (Paras, Shroomish, & Morelull families) in the game they'll all probably appear there (I can see a "skit" being these Pokemon dancing around in a circle, referencing fairy rings). Also with the name Glimwood Tangle would it be naive for me to think Tangela could maybe appear?
We're getting a nature stream that will likely be like USUM's Rotom camera... For 24 HOURS.
It'll be slightly more exciting than irl nature streams at least.
In all seriousness though, this is pretty good. We'll get *at least* one mon and a sneak peek of what the music for that forest is like. Hoping for some Ten Carat Hill-tier song.
There's always the possibility that a "new" Pokemon reveal is going to be only Impidimp. I would hate for that to happen but the chance is always there.

That’s my thinking too. We see the entire encounter table for the area, which judging by it’s location may include a middle stage evo. (maybe for Corviknight?) We’ll also get a couple more confirmations on returning ‘mons, which is nice. (I agree that mushroomy pokemon are likely to show up.)
Also with the Crab Rave going on at the Japanese site we’ll see the pay off for that event during the next direct too, so there will hopefully be two or more reveals there.
I think the most interesting part about this forest is its placement on the map. Usually the forest area comes early-game, but this one seems to be mid-to-late game.

Let's not forget that there is a forest in the early game, Directly to the west of your house:
Chances are however, judging by the decor, that Glimwood Tangle is the latter Forest. Kalos had a late Forest (Route 20/Winding Woods) as did Sinnoh (If you count the northern routes as "forested"). Presumably, the story is going to force us into going through the forest near our home for whatever reason, and that will be our early game "dungeon" if you like. At least this one appears to have only 1 entrance and exit, so it can't be a Viridian Forest expy again.
Nah, the other exit would just lead to a "dead end" leading to probably some clearing/shrine/ruins within the forest we were tasked to go to for some establishing cutscene. Or they could just erase the other exit, if they wanted to they could reuse the Viridian Forest core layout. However since we just had the Let's Go games hopefully that got their Kanto quota out of their system (I mean we at least got one non-Kanto Galarian Pokemon so that's a start).
I wouldn’t consider this related to Sword/Shield, yet. For context, the Halloween event (Go’s first ever event) is coming up for the 3rd time - people are surmissing this has to do with that. The prevailing theory being Rotom as it is the only regular Gen IV Pokémon not released in Go and we all know about its love with messing with technology. It could also have something to do with Team GO Rocket given that’s a plot line in the Go universe and they used the hacking angle in a big marketing stunt before.
That being said, Go is already seeing “Galarian Form” being added to its code string, so who knows?
Ah. It has been SUCH a long time since I have last spoken in Orange Islands, by that I mean months. Anyways though, if Team Rainbow Rocket does comes, yay. Because I loved em, but honestly I doubt it would happen.

Looks like GameInformer is also going to get answers about [Redacted] as well as some other features. I really hope they ask about HOME because we really don’t know anything.
Initially, the Max Raid Battles were called something more generic like "cooperative battles," but following Pokémon Go's implementation of co-op raids, the word was entered into the vocabularies of Pokémon fans across the globe. "The initial concept of having cooperative battles against a Pokémon – the raid idea – came before raids were even implemented in Pokémon Go, but we saw Pokémon Go implement this raid feature and how popular it was for people to get together in the same space and enjoy these cooperative experiences," director Shigeru Ohmori says. "I think there was some influence like how in Pokémon Go, you don’t need to be a hardcore battler to enjoy the raid battles. It’s really easy to invite a friend. We wanted to have that element in Sword and Shield’s raid encounters as well."
Well aint that something; thesw co op battles actually predated Gos implementation of Raids, but Go was in the public consciousness first, so they adopted the raid part from them
