Project Break This Team: AG Edition Season 2!

Welcome to the second season of Break This Team USUM AG Edition! This project follows a simple layout, with the submission and voting stages taking place on a week by week basis. Most metagame defining teams may seem perfect on the surface, but they all have their undeniable flaws, and this project aims to help point out those weak links. Each week, I'll post a team that was built by someone invested in the metagame, and the participants will then try to break this team with a core made of just two Pokémon.

As stated earlier, the project will have two phases each week: the submission phase and the voting phase. The submission phase will have a duration of five days and participants are allowed to post a core with two Pokémon within that time. Then the voting phase will last two days and people can vote for their two favorite cores (this number is subject to change, depending on the number of submitted cores). Lastly, if you win a week, you will be placed in the Hall of Fame, and if you happen to win three weeks, you'll be able to PM me with your own team and it will be submitted in this thread for that other people try to break it!

RULES:
  • Please attempt to not post one-liners. This includes extremely short descriptions. You don't need to write an elaborate essay, but try to at least provide a satisfactory description of the core. Don't post "these Pokémon work well together and I think that it will break this team ", try to elaborate on a good post with an explanation of how the core performs against the team.
  • This is not a counterteaming competition. This is an attempt to get the community to find viable, functional cores that work generally well in the meta which the team of the week is weak to.
  • By extension, try not to post gimmicky sets. Using Shadow Ball MMY to take advantage of a Lunala is NOT a viable choice.
  • Again, participants are only allowed to post one core with only two Pokémon.
  • Please don't vote on your own core, or I'll delete your post.
  • Please make your votes clear. You can shorten out the names of the people you vote for, but if you do, at least spell the shortened version how it is. I shouldn't have to wonder if you're voting for users.
  • Don't rally people to vote for your own core. This is not fair at all to the other participants, and if you're caught doing this then you won’t be allowed to post or even offer any ideas in this thread.
  • A small explanation would be appreciated when voting.
  • Participants are allowed to do reservations, but if they don't post the sets with the explanation within 48 hours, other participants are allowed to take it.
  • In order to encourage creativity and originality between submissions, the same Pokemon can only be used two times maximum per submissions round.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

this team runs pdon as the xerneas check which isnt very reliable. max speed water spout pogre really pressures the entire team + the pdon. xern gets multiple set up opportunities and if the pdon is chipped, xern is pretty free to sweep the entire team

This is a really solid balanced team built around Perish Song Gengar and Life Orb Ho-Oh. Perish Song + Disable + Substitute allows Gengar to trap a lot of threats including every Supportceus (with 1 attack), defensive Necrozma, Ferrothorn, Celesteela and many others. Gengar itself is an amazing
revenge killer and runs Hex to take advantage of status spam provided by the other teammates. Ho-Oh is a really good wall breaker, it pressures supportceus/groudon/ferrothorn and its natural bulk makes it really hard to deal with it. This team has one of the best defensive core in AG - Primal Groudon and Zygarde. Primal Groudon checks support arceus formes/primal kyogre and has Stealth Rock to pressure Flying types. It also carries Toxic to wear down support arceus and Roar to phaze out Xerneas and Rayquaza. Zygarde runs a really straightforward set as well, Glare + Coil shuts down most physical attackers, Thousand Arrows is the main attack and Rest is for recovery. These 2 mons are paired with Darkceus and defensive Xerneas. Darkceus checks the Necrozmas and Xerneas checks Marshadow. They both run Defog to control hazards and Xern also runs Aromatherapy to heal off the status. Overall this is a really solid team and has been really consistent in tours and ladder.
please submit a 2 pokemon core which breaks this team!

Ok so basically this team uses arceus dark as it's only deo a check, however if we run focus blast deo arceus dark is no longer able to check deo and the team just loses, you can also run signal beam on deo (it isn't a total meme I have done it in the past and it works) but focus blast is somewhat preferable for it's ability to also hit steel types so I am going to go with that

anyways you just keep rocks off the field, set up an np with deo on something safe like mgar, xern or arceus dark and then sweep

here are the calcs at +2 in terrain

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Deoxys-Attack Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Arceus-Dark: 743-876 (167.7 - 197.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tyranitar can safetly trap the greatest threat to Ultra Necrozma - Mega Gengar - while dishing out toxics to potentially Ho-Oh, Groudon and Arceus Dark - which may otherwise stop Ultra Necrozma. In turn, this lures in Xerneas which Necrozma Dusk Mane can easily switch into and proceed to setup. Once Mega Gengar has been removed, Ultra Necrozma can take out Arceus Dark after a CM, and if Stealth Rocks are up and the enemy team is sufficiently chipped (likely late game) Ultra Necrozma pretty much wins, being able to survive any one hit while also having Z move to instantly knockout a foe. Even if Mega Gengar wasn't removed, Ultra Necrozma isn't KOed by Hex and so could potentially sweep still.

Mixed ray 2hko's everything on the team so nothing wants to switch into it. Mega-gengar can trap it, but for that it has to mega asap otherwise ray can just switch out on the first turn gengar comes in, and ray will get another kill later on in the game. As for xern, you just need to weaken pdon to the point that its forced to rest and after that, it sets up and sweeps very easily. Hp rock is a bit counter-teamish i agree, but its always a solid option on xern anyway. Thunder still ohko's this 0 bulk Ho-oh regardless.

the concept is pretty simple, mixed RP Primal-Groudon is a formidable theart for this team with abillity to bypass Zygarde-C with HP Ice and 2HKO
almost all others team members, only Ho-Oh avoid 2HKO from Primal-Groudon, so Arceus-Rock is here to counter Ho-Oh and settle Stealth Rock to help Primal-Groudon. Also Arceus-Rock benefit from HP Ice Pdon witch eliminate one big theart for Arceus-Rock.

Calcs :
pdon :

POgre is a pretty major threat, being able to handle the majority of that team without much worry. The defensive variant allows it to live hits from Ho-oh (252 Atk Life Orb Ho-Oh Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Kyogre-Primal: 199-234 (49.2 - 57.9%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO ) without worrying about getting revenge-killed by Mega Gengar. Rest allows it to handle status better from the likes of Arceus-Dark and Zygarde. This then begs the question: what happens if Groudon comes in? Enter trapper Zygarde, which can threaten with big damage from Thousand Arrows, and, if Xerneas is out of the picture, fire off an unexpected Thousand Waves to trap shit, set up, bam. If Xerneas isn't dead yet, though, you could play some pivot games back out into Kyogre and proceed to chip incoming Groudon with Ice Beam.

Also, if you like comedy rap, please be sure to check out the link to up-and-comer Randall Baby's debut mixtape in my signature (#ShamelessPlug).

So stallbreak Zygarde runs through four of the six mons, setting up Substitute on MGar, Primal-Groudon, and Zygarde. Defensive counter-play is fairly limited, consisting of defensive Xern, Arc-Dark, and Toxic-spam. Xern is trapped and removed without issue by Mega-Gengar, as there is no Thunder Wave. Arc-Dark loses if statused or is just flat-out removed with Perish Song + Disable MGar. Status is mostly beat with Substitute. MGar + Zygarde is a well-known core and works again really well here. Yeah like this core runs through everything. Just pair with a cleric (maybe scarf/defensive Xern), an Ogre check (maybe Ferro/Arc-Grass), and a sure-fire Groudon check and you are set.

rocks ep fairy is pretty annoying to the team, as it gets rocks up vs both defoggers, can chip pdon with ep, and gar can't trap it due to a lack of sludge wave. the only way it can deal with it statusing it with ho-oh or pdon, which gives free rocks or chip respectively. mmy is pretty dangerous to the team, as the only thing that can switch in is pdon, which gets 2hkod if it's been chipped by ep. the rest of the team pretty much loses to +1, with xerneas the only mon that can live a hit but unable to do much back. the core would appreciate a ho-oh switch-in that can force it out.

this team runs pdon as the xerneas check which isnt very reliable. max speed water spout pogre really pressures the entire team + the pdon. xern gets multiple set up opportunities and if the pdon is chipped, xern is pretty free to sweep the entire team

The idea of this core is that Mega Gengar is able to remove the physical threats that would otherwise be able to threaten Ho-Oh. In this case, Mega Gengar is able to remove banded Mega Rayquaza and Ultra Necrozma, two things on the team Ho-Oh would appreciate being removed. This leaves the team very passive to Ho-Oh, especially due to the lack of judgment/liquidation on waterceus. Nothing appreciates a Toxic and the team now struggles to force Ho-Oh out. HP Rock Geo Xern is still a major threat to this core, however Ho-Oh should not be the primary Xerneas check, and in addition to this it may be possible to WW the Xern on the Geo or Ho-Oh takes the hit as HP rock is a roll at +2.
