Website Description time!

"Because Turtonator lives on volcanoes, feeding on sulfur and other materials found near volcanic craters, its shell has a layer of explosive material—mostly sulfur. When something strikes this Pokémon, sparks fly from the horns on its shell, igniting an explosion!

In areas around volcanic craters, this Pokémon camouflages itself as a rock and waits for prey. At the moment when its prey steps onto the back of its shell, Turtonator strikes its shell with its own tail, triggering an explosion!

The explosive blasts triggered from Turtonator’s back are released through an orifice located on the middle front of the Pokémon’s body. This is Turtonator’s weak point. Attacks landing on its stomach will cause it a great deal of damage.

Shell Trap is a move that only Turtonator is able to learn. With this move, the Pokémon can set a trap at the beginning of the turn, and if Turtonator is hit by an opponent’s physical attack during that turn, Shell Trap triggers an explosion that will deal much greater damage to the opponent."

So, Shell Trap is reminiscent of Powder but overall better since it's ALL physical attacks rather than just fire attacks.

Twitch chat was saying that Rockruff had stealth rock. Any truth to that? Wouldn't surprise me but it'd be weird for it to have it so early on in this battle royal demo.
Pikachu used a Z-Move, (Hyperspeed Assault is my guess on the english name. Or just Hyperspeed) so there may be some moveset manipulation. Still, it getting Stealth Rock is interesting.

So Detonator Turtle is basically a Landmine. And the description makes it seem more like Counter than Powder, since the move still goes off, iirc.

Also: I would be shocked if it isn't really bulky on the physical side.

Edit: Better name! It's Mine Turtle.

Is no-one going to mention IT'S NAME IS TURTONATOR
That's too friggin' awesome for words.

Shell Trap looks... interesting, especially for doubles. I want to say it's a variation on a move we've seen before but I can't quite remember...

How has nobody been talking about Turtonator: one of the ugliest SOBs created by Game Freak yet. The Fire/Dragon typing had better be worth the hype.

Edit: Ninjask'd and Greninja'd

This is great, thiiis is great.

So, it has a shield on its back, everytime it gets hit releases a bit of chip damage and eventually a supernova? Something like that, my gosh, that would be great as spin blocker.

Shell trap is interesting. Got to wait for more info on the move like base power or if it's just a more specific counter to make an opinion on it.

It's very similar to Rainy Turtloid from MMX6
I knew it looked familiar, haha! I really like this guy so far. Hope he's a good bulky attacker. Off of sheer looks I'd guess he could be a good utility mon but we have no stats or moves to say one way or another.

I can't even figure out how to pronounce this lol.

So shell trap goes off no matter what but if you are hit beforehand it does way more damage? Or does it only go off if you are hit by a physical move?

And does it last until it's triggered? Or only for the turn it was played?

No. It used a new move, Shell Trap, that seems to be a Fire-type Counter. The "supernova" was it using Explosion.

LOVING Turtonator, a fire Mata Mata turtle of death. Fantastic design, and great typing! Its signature move is interesting too. Shell Armor isn't that exciting but fits well, if it'll has set-up moves it could be useful.

PHYSICAL? 100% sure it's not CONTACT move? YAAAAAAAAAAAY! :D

Welp, woke up late. But I can't believe we only got one new pokemon reveal. This is disappointing.

Honestly, this might be my least favorite one revealed so far. It's got a nice typing, but I hate that design. I don't really know how to explain. At least shell trap sounds interesting. Maybe it'll grow on me.

I've rewatched the Battle Royal footage and translated the moves.

Pikachu knows Slam, Electro Ball, Spark and Thunder Wave.
Rockruff knows Tackle, Stealth Rock, Rock Tomb and Bite.
Litten knows Fire Fang.
Popplio knows Bubble Beam.
Mimikyu knows Shadow Sneak and Feint Attack.
Togedemaru knows Tackle, Discharge and Spark.
Komala knows Slam, Swallow and Rapid Spin.

Wait. The Koala knows Rapid Spin? WTF? That does not look like something that could really spin.
