(It's obviously illegal to create reproductions of already existing US games, such as Earthbound so this mainly applies to games never released in the US)

Haha, well tbh I didn't even know this existed until I found a store which opened in Novemember, I was on Facebook yesterday and saw this store was selling Secret of Mana 2, Terranigma, Zelda BS and Parallel Worlds, Earthbound Zero, FF5 for the SNES, etc. And I thought to myself, wtf? The art on the games looked like any other game, very polished and well done, and so I did some research and mainly this year and last year it's become a big thing in SNES games being made that weren't released in Japan. My question is, what do you guys think of it? The fact that they come in Boxes with Manuals as well, and the fact that the games play so well kind of excites me as a huge RPG Collector/Gamer. Finally getting my hands on Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2, Bahamut Lagoon, Etc is just awesome.

But I am sure there's a lot of people who disagree as well. Of course each game is rather pricy, like $60 for the cartridge alone, but I find it worth it in a way. I have never been much of a emulator guy so getting to own all of these classics never brought to the US is really exciting imo. But of course authenticity is questioned. I am just looking for thoughts on this, if anyone else owns any of these? I don't like the fact some fan hacks and such are included (mainly the zeldas) but oh well, just cause they are there doesn't mean I have to buy them. I am hoping maybe Mother 3 is brought to the SNES haha.

I picked up FFV, Bahamut Lagoon, and Earthbound Zero (Mother) btw. I got them relatively cheap since I know the owner of the store and I bought 3 of them, and had a store discount. Anyone else have experiences with these?

Just a few images of the more popular stuff being made.

Edit: probably front mission and romancing saga III as well

fan translations. my local store in NC called Save Point Video Games buys these from a reproduction specialist, but this site here seems to have the best selection and be the most reliable.

it really is something really cool.

Yeah LN, that's what I bought at my store. Mines grey cart, red design on it. Didn't get the box but I want the box haha. I tried the game and works perfectly, so good.

Didn't Earthbound have some sort of copy protection on it?

Just thought I'd ask, it was a random fact I remembered. Still, if not, play it away, Earthbound is awesome.

Eathbound isn't Earthbound Zero though. Haha. And sora..idgi?

The copy protection only worked on old cartridge copiers, I'm pretty sure newer methods can do it without creating the extra SRAM which sets off the protection. Also, at least 75% of the EB roms online are a version that had been modified to remove the protection coding. Actually, a few years ago there were a lot of bogus EB carts being sold on ebay for $200+. The reproduction carts are great for playing things that couldn't be played any other way, but that's unfortunately not their only use.

Mother 3 just got it's english fan translation completed, so I'm ready to play through EB now.

$60 does not sound that bad when you think about inflation, the GOOD games actually costed that much back in the last century. This sounds very interesting..

Cartridges and IC boards costed shittons of money, especially since they were always imported from Japan/Korea... We really cannot compare those costs with that of a CD or a Digital Download which has ZERO media cost.
$60 IS an inflated figure.

Did they have to label it "Secret of Mana 2", though?

I don't really see the problem when essentially, in english that's what it is lol. You're just used to the name Sieken Densetsu 3 which in reality would make no sense here, and just make any other buyer go "what?" lol.
