The Pool
Good afternoon again! Thank you all for your participation in Stage 1, which was where we nominated what games we felt warranted consideration for the list of Top Video Games. The full list of 500 games can be seen in the link above to The Pool.
Now, comes the second step: narrowing that huge list down to something more manageable. Obviously it would take forever to evaluate and score all 500 games, so we need a way to downsize that. What this thread will be used for is a series of voting blocks designed to slim that list down. How it will work is as follows: Groups of 25 games at a time will be posted in a survey, and we will vote either YES, NO, or ABSTAIN for each game. YES means we want the game to stay in the competition, NO means we want the game removed, and ABSTAIN means you have not played the game before and therefore cannot vote either way. Through this system we will accomplish the removal of many niche games that are known by too few people to be accurately evaluated (sorry all you underground gamers), as well as games that are loved by one or two people but hated by most others. I believe this process will allow us to get that list down to a sane level where we can evaluate them accurately and rank them accordingly.
Now, before we begin voting, I want to get a few things straight.
1. For this list to truly be accurate, we must all try to put our personal bias aside. There might be a game on here that you absolutely loathe with the fiery passion of a thousand forevers, but it's still a legitimately good game. We must all take on the maturity of a critical evaluator for this task, and look at each title for what they are, not how we feel personally. It's a stretch to ask, I know, but I have faith we'll be able to accomplish it.
2. There is no maximum or minimum number that can be removed from each group. Since I'll just be copy and pasting 25 at a time in alphabetical order, the voting will massively vary from group to group. There might be a group of 25 where none get removed, and there might be a group where all 25 bite the dust. This helps alleviate the problem of forced numerical removals where a legitimately good game gets taken out because there's so many other great games in its group.
3. Do not comment on other people's votes or defend/qualify your own votes. As mentioned in the previous thread, there will be a time for debate and discussion. It is not here, so don't.
4. If you have no experience with the game mentioned whatsoever, please vote ABSTAIN. Don't vote YES or NO on a title you've never played just because everyone else is. This also gives us a more accurate picture of how many people will actually be able to evaluate the game if it makes it to the scoring round.
5. Don't get pissy if your favorite game gets knocked out in the early rounds. Tough decisions are going to have to be made before this is all over, deal with it.
6. Voting periods for each group will last exactly ONE (1) DAY, plus a few extra hours to make each ending time 11:59 PM PST. This means check back to the thread periodically, because the next group will be posted immediately following the end of the previous group.
7. No whining. If you don't like how I'm doing this, keep it to yourself. Feel free to go make your own list your own way.
Ok. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's move on to the voting. Please copy/paste the list below into a new post and type your vote next to each game (YES, NO, or ABSTAIN). Just for clarification, YES means you think the game should stay on the list, NO means you think the game should be removed from the list, and ABSTAIN means you've never played the game before or haven't played it enough to give an educated vote. If you have any questions, please PM me before you vote.
GAMES UP FOR REDEMPTION - PLEASE DISCUSS WHY THEY SHOULD/SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE.
