Utility Talonflame serves as a premier Slither Wing switch-in, especially with Flame Body punishing U-turn, while still providing solid revenge killing capabilities against weakened foes like Gengar and Noivern, spreading even more burns with Will-O-Wisp, and potentially serving as a Defogger. Flare Blitz is the primary STAB option to pressure Tinkaton and Scizor, but Brave Bird provides better coverage against bulky Water-types like Slowking and Gastrodon. Will-O-Wisp punishes physical attackers—especially Mimikyu and Tyranitar—and opposing walls alike, while U-turn can get frail teammates like Gengar and Gallade in safely; Defog is another utility option if the team needs it, as it can semi-reliably Defog against Tinkaton and non-Stone Edge Hippowdon. Tera Ghost allows Talonflame to safely dispatch Extreme Speed Lucario, while Tera Steel allows for an emergency Will-O-Wisp against foes like Tyranitar; both also shed Talonflame's debilitating Stealth Rock weakness, letting it still check Tinkaton after Knock Off.

Utility Talonflame fits on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate it spreading burns and punishing opposing pivots, namely Slither Wing and Scizor. It can form a potent pivot core with teammates like Sandy Shocks and Slither Wing to pressure opposing teams. Talonflame cannot safely switch into several dangerous physical attackers like Tyranitar and Gyarados, making bulky teammates like Hippowdon and Wo-Chien desirable. Talonflame struggles against powerful Electric-types like Sandy Shocks and Kilowattrel, making Gastrodon and Hippowdon good teammates. Tsareena is a valuable teammate that provides entry hazard removal, letting Talonflame drop Defog for other utility moves, and checks the bulky Water-types that Talonflame hates.

Utility Talonflame serves as a premier Slither Wing switch-in, especially with Flame Body punishing U-turn, while still providing solid revenge killing capabilities it'd be good to emphasise what the speed helps with here since it's a big reason to use talon; pawmot, gengar, noivern, and iron jugulis are good examples of fast mons it can revenge kill if they're chipped down, spreading even more burns with Will-O-Wisp, and potentially serving as a Defogger. Flare Blitz is the primary STAB option to pressure Tinkaton and Scizor, but Brave Bird provides better coverage against bulky Water-types like Slowking and Gastrodon. Will-O-Wisp punishes physical attacker and opposing walls alike notably it's great for beating stuff like scizor and mimikyu, the former esp if you're running brave bird while U-turn can get frail teammates like Gengar and Gallade in safely; Defog is another utility option if the team needs it. Tera Ghost allows Talonflame to safely dispatch Extreme Speed Lucario, while Tera Steel allows for an emergency Will-O-Wisp against foes like Tyranitar.

it'd be useful to mention in here somewhere that talonflame can defog decently on tinkaton which is the most common stealth rocker, and it can also be decent into stealth rock hippowdon if it's running roar instead of a rock move. that said it hates getting knocked/encored by tinka and has to scout hippo's set which is what makes it a mediocre fogger to begin with

Utility Talonflame fits on balance teams that appreciate it spreading burns and punishing opposing pivots, namely Slither Wing and Scizor. It can form a potent pivot core with teammates like Sandy Shocks to pressure opposing teams. Talonflame cannot safely switch into several dangerous physical attackers like Tyranitar and Gyarados, making bulky teammates like Slither Wing desirable. slither isn't really great at switching into these either tbh, something like hippo for tar & wo-chien for gyarados, altho nothing is really safe vs taunt gyarados on paper but still. slither is still a good teammate though, revenging tar and putting big pressure on slowking is nice

couple more good teammates include: gastrodon & hippowdon dealing w/ stuff like sandy shocks / kilowattrel that tflame hates, tsareena acting as good secondary removal to let talonflame more liberally handle tinkaton, tinkaton itself to check stuff like pompom and salamence
