Not open for further replies.
I'm planning on going on LOA for a 1-2 weeks (starting last Sunday). Since there are only 3 votes in, I'll keep voting open during that time. If you have any questions, please PM me on discord (Aiayru #8851), as I won't be on forums as much as I used to be. Thanks for understanding!

Congrats to Grabby for winning the checks, and Finchinator & Ibby0034 for winning the counters of Week 5! Your submission will be added to the Hall of Fame Shortly!

Submissions Phase
:BW/Tyranitar:

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 208 Atk / 48 SpD / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Superpower

Setting Sand to boost its Special Defence and wear down opponents, Tyranitar is one of the most iconic Pokémon due to its ability to Pursuit trap Psychic-type Pokémon like Latios. How will you beat this tyrant?

The submissions phase will end on Wednesday, April 20th at 11:59pm EDT (GMT -4).

:bw/Hippowdon: @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpD
Careful Nature
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

208 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 12 Def Hippowdon: 111-132 (26.4 - 31.4%) -- 0.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery
208 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. -1 252 HP / 12 Def Hippowdon: 168-198 (40 - 47.1%) -- 41% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 244+ SpD Hippowdon: 118-140 (28 - 33.3%) -- 27.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery

Cannot beat hippo even with spikes + stealth rocks and cannot even outdamage hippo recovering in sand with slack off even at -1. Ice beam does not do enough to hippo regardless 3hko'ing at best and forcing it to fish for freezes. Hippo can easily force it out with a powerful earthquake or limit its turns with toxic and put it on a timer especially with residual damage cutting into it

0 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0- Def Tyranitar: 242-288 (70.7 - 84.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Nominating Scarf Scizor as a check (can switch in once) to Scarf Tyranitar

:bw/scizor:
Scizor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Bullet Punch

(I'm still used to thinking about Band Scizor since I ran one, lol)

Scizor doesn't care what move Tyranitar could use, since it resists Pursuit, Crunch, and Ice Beam, while also taking Superpower well. In return, Scizor outspeeds Tyranitar and can either OHKO with Superpower, maintain momentum with U-turn, or, if you're so inclined, you can Pursuit on Tyranitar's switch or click Bullet Punch to get two hits on an incoming faster Pokemon. By clicking U-turn, though, you gain momentum for your team and can bring in whatever to follow up on what your opponent does. Turning Scizor into offensive momentum will help you recover after, for instance, your Lati twin gets trapped by Tyranitar.

Calcs:
Scizor on Switchin:
252 Atk Tyranitar Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 134-158 (47.6 - 56.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Scizor to Tyranitar:
252 Atk Scizor Superpower vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 484-572 (141.5 - 167.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor U-turn vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 212-252 (61.9 - 73.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Technician Scizor switching boosted Pursuit (80 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 60-71 (17.5 - 20.7%) -- possible 5HKO
(maybe have Spikes for this?)

:BW/Skarmory:

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Def / 212 SpD / 20 Spe
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Brave Bird

Skarmory cripples TTar, the only way for TTar to progress would be to freeze or get a critical with Superpower, but not even that, since you click roost and you are back in a good position

208 Atk Tyranitar Superpower vs. 248 HP / 28 Def Skarmory: 96-113 (28.8 - 33.9%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO

0 SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 59-70 (17.7 - 21%) -- possible 5HKO

:Keldeo:
Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind
- Hidden Power [Grass]
-Secret Sword

When the scarfer is slower than Alakazam (badmon)

I nominate Scarf Keldeo as a check to ScarfTar. Crunch, Pursuit, and Ice Beam don't do enough and Keldeo threatens a swift KO with Secret Sword. Reason this is a check and not a counter is because scarf Superpower does a ton to Keldeo and with rocks down it always kills with sandstorm chip.

Calcs
:Keldeo: on :Tyranitar:
252 Atk Tyranitar Pursuit (40 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 37-44 (11.4 - 13.5%) -- possible 6HKO after sandstorm damage
252 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 73-87 (22.5 - 26.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after sandstorm damage
0 SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 36-42 (11.1 - 12.9%) -- possible 6HKO after sandstorm damage
252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 4 HP / 0- Def Tyranitar: 568-672 (166 - 196.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:Keldeo: on the switch-in
252 Atk Tyranitar Superpower vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 147-174 (45.3 - 53.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and sandstorm damage

Counter
:bw/gastrodon-east:
Gastrodon (Gastrodon-East) @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald / Ice Beam
- Earthquake / Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover

Gastro hard stops ttar and has the really irritating combo of scald + toxic which basically no sand team likes switching into. Scald even allows it to thaw itself from Ice Beam freeze if that is to happen. Not much else to say tbh, the reason why I really like this as a counter is just because it exerts so much pressure against opposing sand just sitting there and threatening status against everyone.

:volcarona:
Volcarona (F) @ Bug Gem
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Psychic

With Tyranitar nowadays running Ice Beam > Stone Edge for the Grounds, Volcarona has a much easier time exploiting Scarf Tar. Nominating this as a check as while you wouldn't want to freely switch Volcarona in as you risk getting 2HKOed by Crunch, the fact that you can exploit a Tyranitar locked using Ice Beam / Pursuit / Superpower can potentially be a devastating position to be in.

check

Breloom @ Fighting Gem
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Low Sweep
- Bullet Seed

252+ Atk Fighting Gem Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 600-708 (175.4 - 207%) -- guaranteed OHKO

bop

Beautiful Counter.

Toxicroak @ Black Sludge
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 244 HP / 108 Def / 140 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Bulk Up / Sword Dance
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake for opposing tenta in rain/ any filler move like protect or sucker punch.

Eats dark and fighting moves for breakfast and ice beam can never 4hko from full. Ice punch is always cool to have too. The spread is very team specific since it's just for that set, you can play around with more phys def EVs, maybe some speed/atk with those 140 EVs. Speed is 210 because why not be a bit fast?

Beautiful Counter.

Throh (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Low Kick
- Ice Punch
- Bulk Up
- Fire Punch

Might as well run coverage for scizor/ferro and grounds to make it viable.

Please attempt to only post Pokémon that are viable in the OverUsed metagame. You are able to use the viability rankings as a tool to see what's usable in the metagame. I will attempt to make exceptions, but I need to see multiple ladder replays with a minimum of 1500 ELO mark showing it off.

Probably a good idea to read the rules before posting counters.

Are my dudes gatekeeping a post where u can just look up an obvious counter in the mon's analysis and copy paste it? That's boring.
considering the point is to find the best counter possible to educate the people of the counters and checks to the specific pokemon then yeah I would rather post smth valid and not smth wack like phys def BU throw

Lets not take this so seriously guys, its a fun forum challenge.

Besides the point of these threads is not really to educate people - there are analyses for that - but more a place to mix established ideas with propose some differing points of view. People should be able to submit known, hard counters if they want, or suggest things they've been messing around with if they can sufficiently defend it as viable.

re: The "1500 rule" is a bit fast and loose, if it helps consider it like this - if you are specifically going through RU / NU / NFEs and designing weird sets to specifically beat this one Pokemon, thats not really helping. We don't want this to degenerate to Shedinja winning every single week the victim doesn't have coverage for it, or people nominating CB Sucker Punch Cacnea as their Latios check. If you've got a weird pick that you could justify building a semi-serious team with though, then its fair game - heck I've used Kadabra, Ghost Rotom, Nidoqueen, Crustle, Quagsire to name but a few in the last 12 months.

I will admit the Throh submission did tread close to that line but the set posted is done better by Conkeldurr like every single time, though some other Throh set might have been able to stay as a serious submission. Still, lets try not to be killjoys over this stuff otherwise threads like this die quickly
