- A combination of great offensive stats, almost unresisted STAB moves, and great coverage make Marshadow a powerful wallbreaker in offensive teams, capable of overwhelming many foes, including Zygarde, Necrozma-DM, and Arceus-Dark. This set is best suited for offensive teams looking for a fast and powerful wallbreaker and cleaner.
- Spectral Thief is an accurate and strong Ghost-type STAB move that steals the opponent's boosts, which is useful for scaring out targets such as Calm Mind Arceus-Ground and Coil Zygarde. It also bypasses Substitute, which is valuable for baiting and eliminating foes like Swords Dance Arceus-Ground attempting to use Marshadow as setup fodder. Alternatively, Ice Punch can be used to eliminate defensive Zygarde, as Poltergeist followed up by Ice Punch has a high chance to OHKO while preventing transformation if Zygarde switches out to scout. Otherwise, Rock Tomb is another powerful option dealing with Ho-Oh, and is a great tool to deny Mega Salamence's attempts to setup. Hidden Power Ice, alongside a Naive nature, can be used to always OHKO defensive Zygarde after Spectral Thief's damage, as well as Mega Salamence.
- Poltergeist is Marshadow's strongest Ghost-type STAB move, capable of 2HKOing foes such as defensive Necrozma-DM and Primal Kyogre.
- Low Kick is preferred over Close Combat due to the heavy weight of most foes Marshadow will face, reaching its maximum base Power of 120 against staples like Arceus, Primal Groudon, Necrozma-DM, and Ho-Oh, making it a consistent STAB move without drawbacks.
- Shadow Sneak is a great priority option, boosted by Technician, and able to finish weakened faster targets like Ultra Necrozma, Zacian-C, and Eternatus.
- Tera Ghost is the best option on Marshadow, further boosting its STAB options and allowing it to 2HKO defensive Arceus-Ground and Primal Groudon with Poltergeist after Stealth Rock damage, and also ensuring it always OHKO Ultra Necrozma after Stealth Rock with Shadow Sneak. Losing its weakness to Fairy-type attacks is also useful against Arceus-Fairy, allowing Marshadow to survive its Judgment use another attack. Losing its resistance to Dark-type can be detrimental however, as Yveltal can threaten to OHKO Marshadow with Sucker Punch.
- Life Orb is the preferred item on this set, maximizing its damage output without locking its moves with Choice Band. Due to the recoil, Marshadow is at risk of being chipped rapidly, so a Spell Tag can be used for its Ghost-type attacks boost, but the loss in power is significant, and Marshadow will be unable to KO many key targets, like Arceus-Fairy, Arceus-Ground, and Necrozma-DM.
- It is particularly good to bring Marshadow in early game, because it can threaten its targets such as Arceus-Dark, Necrozma-DM, and Ho-Oh with its STAB moves and coverage. These moves being particularly hard to switch in, as Marshadow becomes more valuable as it makes progress against most teams if it's well positioned.
- Entry hazards and passive damage are extremely valuable for this set, making entry hazards setters such as Primal Groudon and Eternatus valuable teammates. They also serve as a defensive core that can deal with utility Arceus-Fairy, a foe that Marshadow has trouble breaking through without using Terastallization.
- Setup sweepers like Arceus-Ground, Arceus-Fairy, and Ultra Necrozma appreciate Marshadow's ability to chip key walls like Zygarde, Necrozma-DM, and Arceus-Dark, so they can clean a weakened team. In return, Arceus-Ground and Ultra Necrozma can handle Primal Groudon, while Arceus-Fairy can deal with Choice Scarf Yveltal, two Pokemon that Marshadow has trouble threatening.
