Lanturn has been making a splash in ZU as a specially defensive pivot with great defensive typing that can take on many of the metagames top threats, like Charizard, Floatzel, and Jolteon. Its Water-type moves make it feared by Ground-types, giving it an easier time bringing in its teammates. Flip Turn is a secondary pivoting option against Volt Switch-immune Pokemon, like Jolteon. Scald burns up the competition that common switch-ins like Virizion, Snorlax, and Dipplin don't want to handle. Discharge plays a similar role, paralyzing Whimsicott and Cryogonal. Volt Absorb allows Lanturn to thwart Magneton and Jolteon from being able to pivot, while Water Absorb is able to lets it soak up Flip Turn from the ever so present Floatzel. RestTalk gives Lanturn the longevity to handle these threats over the course of the game. Tera Dragon flips bad matchups versus Rotom-C and Sandslash while still retaining the ability to check Typhlosion and Floatzel. Charizard, Sneasel, and Hisuian Qwilfish feed off of Lanturn's pivoting on Grass-types, giving them advantageous matchups to put in some work. Lanturn is very susceptible to these Grass-types, so Dipplin and Weezing can help form a strong defensive backbone.
