Offensive Zapdos destroys common defensive cores in National Dex! Most of Zapdos's offensive prowess comes from its typing; Hurricane hits almost every Pokemon, and with a Z-Crystal, it's capable of OHKOing foes like Gliscor and Clefable, only requiring minimal chip damage. Heat Wave wears down the Steel-types that switch into Hurricane like Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Melmetal. However, Volt Switch can be used to generate momentum on them as well as the likes of Mega Tyranitar and Blissey to give wallbreakers such as Mega Lopunny, Tapu Lele, and Weavile a free switch. Because of Zapdos's weakness to Stealth Rock, Defoggers like Tapu Fini and Gliscor are fantastic teammates. The given EVs let Zapdos always live two Leaf Blades from Kartana after Stealth Rock while outspeeding Modest Tapu Lele and Kyurem.

Zapdos is a force to be reckoned with in the National Dex tier. Using a more offensively-oriented set allows Zapdos everything before this doesnt flow well, try something like "while typically running defensive spreads, switching to a more offensively oriented spread allows Zapdos to destroy common National Dex defensive cores" and then u can remove the first sentence too to destroy common defensive cores such as Toxapex + Gliscor, or Tapu Fini + Landorus-T. Most of its offensive prowess comes from its typing; Hurricane hits almost everything in the tier and with a Z crystal it's capable of OHKOing foes like Gliscor and Clefable, only requiring minimal chip. Heat Wave is excellent for wearing down Steel-types that can switch into Hurricane like Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Melmetal. However, Zapdos can also run Volt Switch to generate momentum on said Pokemon as well as the likes of Mega Tyranitar and Blissey, while bringing in wallbreakers such as Kyurem Mega Lopunny, Tapu Lele, or Weavile. Teammates like Tapu Fini and Gliscor that can Defog away hazards are fantastic teammates because of Zapdos' Stealth Rock Weakness. The given EVs let Zapdos always live 2 Kartana Leaf Blades after Stealth Rock, while outspeeding Modest Tapu Lele and Kyurem.
