Yanma (UU Analysis)

Yanma is actually a great lead. It deals pretty good damage and has a great ability in Speed Boost. Here is the analysis.

Plans:
- Make a lead set. Only viable set, and it does pretty good at it.

[Overview]
- Oft forgot as a lead, but functions very well. Can 2HKO majority of leads in UU.
- Pathetic defenses.
- Great ability in Speed boost.
- Rather small movepool.
- Has two reliable STAB options: Bug Buzz and Air Slash.

[SET]
name: Anti-lead
move 1: Protect
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Air Slash
move 4: Hypnosis / Quick Attack / U-turn
item: Focus Sash
nature: Modest
ability: Speed Boost
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
- Protect is the most important move on this Yanma lead. it guards against Ambipom/Persian/Purugly/Hariyama's Fake Out, and allows it to get a free speed boost, which outpaces most, if not all of the unboosted UU leads.
- Bug Buzz and Air Slash are obligatory STAB moves. Bug Buzz hits Alakazam, Absol, Uxie and Mesprit for SE damage, while Air Slash hits Hariyama, Machoke and Scyther for SE damage. Both do a fair amount of damage to neutral pokes.
- Last moveslot is mainly a filler. Hypnosis puts stuff to sleep which Yanma can't touch (namely Spiritomb). Quick Attack picks off stuff like Qwilfish. U-turn is completely for scouting.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- EVs are simple: as much SpA and Spe as possible. Modest is important for certain KOs, and Yanma doesn't need the speed thanks to Speed Boost
- Registeel and Steelix are good partners due to their ability to not care about Spiritomb, whom Yanma has trouble with. They can also set up SR.
- Can be a weather starter lead because it can learn Sunny Day/Rain Dance, though it is generally outclassed by Ambipom/Uxie/Mesprit.

[TEAM OPTIONS]
- Registeel/steelix (reason is mention above).
- Chansey/Clefable because they don't care about anything lead tomb can throw they're way, while they can toxic stall. Clefable especially because of immunity to status.

[OPTIONAL CHANGES]
- Reversal!?
- Hidden Power xxx for better coverage.
- Pursuit!?
- Not really. Yanma is too frail to attempt Roost/Whirlwind.

[COUNTER]
- No solid counter due to Hypnosis crippling any defensive switch in. For this reason, Hypno is a good check, though Bug Buzz does a large chunk.
- spiritomb.
- not sure here, any idea?

Definitely Put Hidden Power Grass as an option in the 4th slot, your basically set up fodder for Omastar, Kabutops and Rhyperior. Also I don't see why you are using Machoke as an example it is barely used. Something like Hitmontop has more relevance. The only Pokemon that Quick attack will get some results on is Alakazam and even then.. after the protect and second speed boost your faster so it does not have much use. No counters..seriously. Chansey, Clefable, Registeel etc. are perfect counters. Your definition of a 'counter' does not make sense as you could easily say Yanmega puts Blissey to sleep via hypnosis, so Blissey is not a viable counter.

No mention of Compoundeyes to make Hypnosis more accurate than Sleep Powder?? Yanma is fast enough to sleep most leads (Apart from Ambipom and Scarfers) anyway. It does seem like a faster, cooler Butterfree, though. Other than that, Yanma isn't very stellar.

Me and uragg tested the set and think this should be the main set. Speed Boost is rather underwhelming to be very honest, as Hypnosis becomes extremely shitty and Yanma is just really easy to wall anyways, while with this set you have a considerably accurate sleep move (midway between Sleep Powder and Dark Void) and a way more reliable lead. I still made Speed Boost an option because you can beat stuff like Ambipom and Alakazam without having to rely on Hypnosis, but it should remain a secondary option (also, make it clear that Modest is to be used with Speed Boost only, and make sure Yanma's HP isn't even as it was before with the 4 HP EVs).

When you change that me and uragg will stamp it.
