Draft Wigglytuff

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8

**Price Range**: 1 point

**Overview**: Wigglytuff on paper looks very promising as a low-tier bulky support piece, with a Fairy typing, a gargantuan HP stat, and an enormous support movepool. Wigglytuff is generally unable to all fill the same defensive roles as other Fairy-types due to its low defensive stats, lack of a Fighting resistance, and generally lower longevity compared to higher-tier Fairy-types like Clefable, but it can be serviceable in a pinch. However, Wigglytuff does find an interesting niche as a solid check to Ghost-, Dragon-, and Dark-types, and it can leverage its support movepool and coverage to assist teammates well during certain matchups.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Utility**: Wish, Thunder Wave, and Knock Off give Wigglytuff the tools to act as a support Pokemon and cleric for its teammates, especially during matchups against weaker offensive Pokemon, or Ghost- and Dragon-types. Wigglytuff is typically used in this role to disrupt the opponent’s offense and setup sweepers and provide opportunities for its teammates to take advantage of.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Alluring Voice, Hyper Voice, Play Rough, Body Slam

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Calm Mind

**Utility Moves**: Knock Off, Stealth Rock, Wish, Thunder Wave, Taunt, Encore, Disable, Reflect, Light Screen, Brick Break, Protect, Psychic Noise

**Coverage**: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Energy Ball, Focus Blast, Psychic, Psyshock, Shadow Ball

Niche Moves
========
**Misty Explosion**: Misty Explosion can be used on lead Wigglytuff movesets in order to deal respectable damage and bring in a teammate safely to pick off the opponent.

**Perish Song**: In an emergency situation, Perish Song can be used to put a time limit on a particularly threatening foe, such as a Dragon Dance sweeper or bulky Calm Mind user.

Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers improves Wigglytuff’s longevity, allowing it to live hits more easily, disrupt foes, and more frequently heal teammates with Wish.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots allows Wigglytuff to switch in more easily against teams with strong entry hazard-setting, preventing it from taking large chip damage from Stealth Rock, Spikes, and poison via Toxic Spikes, which be a severe detriment to Wigglytuff's longevity.

Niche Items
========
**Light Clay**: Used on movesets with Reflect and Light Screen, Light Clay allows Wigglytuff to reduce incoming damage towards its teammates for a longer time.

**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb can be used as a one-time nullification of Taunt or Encore, guaranteeing Wigglytuff that it can use Stealth Rock or Thunder Wave.

**Rocky Helmet**: Wigglytuff's passable bulk allows it to switch in on physical attackers, using Rocky Helmet to inflict damage against foes with contact moves and punish foes with pivoting moves such as U-turn.

Tera
========
Wigglytuff should not be drafted as a Tera Captain due to its subpar bulk and offensive stats. If Wigglytuff is made a secondary Tera Captain, Tera Fairy can be used to allow Wigglytuff to check Fighting-types and bolster its Alluring Voice. Alternatively, Tera Fire can let it function as a lure versus Steel-types, resisting their super effective coverage and hitting them back with a boosted Flamethrower or Fire Blast.

Draft Strategy
========
Wigglytuff should only be considered as a very niche pick for the main purpose of helping teams that struggle with Ghost-, Dragon-, and Dark-types. Using its large utility movepool for disruption, Wigglytuff can act as a decent check to these Pokemon, but it should not be the only Pokemon on a team to cover these roles.

**Offensive Threats**: Disruption utility in the form of Thunder Wave provided by Wigglytuff is enjoyed by offensive threats such as Darkrai, Tornadus-T, and Enamorus, which in particular appreciate speed control and can find more opportunities to wallbreak or set up. Wigglytuff’s ability to be a blanket check to Ghost- and Dark-types means that it can take the pressure off of Psychic-type attackers by sponging incoming Ghost- and Dark-type moves decently well. Latios and Deoxys-S therefore appreciate Wigglytuff’s typing and support capabilities moreso than others.

**Entry Hazard Setters**: Wigglytuff is a Stealth Rock setter, and while it might not be reliable in an extended match, it can alleviate pressure from other Stealth Rock setters such as Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Landorus-T and allow them to run more offensive movesets if they're required.

Checks and Counters
========
**Taunt / Encore**: Wigglytuff is highly reliant on status moves to provide support for its teammates, so Taunt from the likes of Ogerpon and Tornadus-T can completely disrupt Wigglytuff and allow for free turns of setup if Wigglytuff is not running disruption itself in the form of Alluring Voice. Encore from Annihilape, Iron Valiant, and Iron Bundle can completely shut down Wigglytuff and allow for free turns of setup or damage.

**Steel- and Fire-types**: While Wigglytuff carries coverage for Steel-types, many such as Gholdengo, Iron Treads, and Iron Crown are faster and either strong enough to OHKO Wigglytuff or bulky enough to shrug off non-STAB Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Wigglytuff does not carry any meaningful offensive coverage for most Fire-types and so struggles to deal significant damage. Heatran, Cinderace, and Chi-Yu can therefore reliably handle Wigglytuff with Taunt or strong offensive coverage and STAB Fire-type moves.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Naturally strong wallbreakers like Gouging Fire, Ursaluna, and Thundurus-T may overwhelm Wigglytuff's bulk and push past its Wish + Protect strategy. Due to the predictability of this set, setup sweepers can use the turns that Wigglytuff uses Protect to boost their offenses with Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, or Nasty Plot. Most of these Pokemon do need to fear its Thunder Wave, however.

Yo seems like you are new to this and I had some time to burn so I'm gonna go over some things that should be changed. I did similar things the first time I did one of these. This is not an actual QC so you will still need 2 QCs after this one. When editing in Google Docs or similar programs it adds a bunch of extra line breaks for no reason so I would recommend writing these in Smogon in the future if you don't want to keep deleting them.

[overview]

**Draft Order**: Round 8 onwards. No need for onward as 8 is the last round

**Price Range**: 1-2 points

**Overview**: Wigglytuff on paper looks very promising as a low tier bulky support piece, with access to the fairy typing, a gargantuan HP stat, and an enormous support movepool. In practice, its low Defense, Special Defense, and Speed stats combined with middling offences mean that Wigglytuff is both weak and passive as a defensive wall. Wigglytuff is generally unable to fill the same defensive roles as other fairy types such as Clefable or Tapu Fini, and as such should not be drafted as the lone fairy type on a draft. Although not great there isn't really enough space foe a second fairy in the 8 Pokemon Smogon format which this is written for, Wiggly is often getting picked up late because you didn't grab a Fairy-type earlier. Tapu Fini is also not available in Paldea Dex. However, Wigglytuff does find an interesting niche as a solid check to Ghost-, Dragon, and Dark-types both Dragapult and Spectrier, two of the most threatening offensive ghost types in the format, Both of these Pokemon are banned and can leverage its support movepool and coverage to assist its teammates well during such matchups.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Pivot**: Wish, Baton Pass, and Knock Off give Wigglytuff the tools to act as a bulky pivot and cleric for its teammates, especially during matchups against weaker offence or the aforementioned ghost and dragon types. Wigglytuff is typically used in this role to disrupt the opponent’s offence and setup sweepers, with moves like Thunder Wave, Encore, and Alluring Voice typically also being run depending on the matchup.

**Lead**: Wigglytuff can act as a passable setter of Stealth Rock and leverage its large movepool to gain momentum early in a game. Lead sets typically run a focus sash Mental Herb Its already bulky enough to live a hit but Taunt / Encore shut it down so Mental Herb would be better generally. Endevor is cool but not really gonna work most of the time on a mon like this in order to guarantee entry hazards alongside disruption in the form of Thunder Wave or Endeavor Encore. Frisk is a solid option on these sets to gain information about the opponent’s item before Wigglytuff is KO’d. idk about dedicated lead being common enough for a full common role section tbh could be fine to just have the lead option in mental herb section

**Offensive**: Although rare, Wigglytuff’s competitive ability and access to a wide variety of typings for specially offensive coverage moves mean that Wigglytuff can be run as a stallbreaker once in a blue moon with Calm Mind or Nasty Plot. Flamethrower and Fire Blast may surprise incoming steel types such as Scizor and Ferrothorn, Also not in sv and bulkier walls such as Toxapex and Slowbro are susceptible to Wigglytuff’s special coverage or disruption through Taunt, Encore, and Disable.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Alluring Voice, Hyper Voice, Play Rough, Body Slam Dazzling Gleam. Alluring Voice pretty much always better. Physical moves are fine on it only has 15 less Atk meaning it hits mons with high Spdef better and the moves are better

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Calm Mind.

**Utility Moves**: Knock Off, Stealth Rock, Wish, Baton Pass, Dry pass still banned in Smogon Thunder Wave, Taunt, Encore, Disable, Reflect, Light Screen, Brick Break, Protect. Protect for self Wish and Brick Break for opposing screens.

**Coverage**: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Energy Ball, Focus Blast, Psychic Noise, Shadow Ball.

Niche Moves
========
**Misty Explosion**: Misty Explosion can be used on lead Wigglytuff movesets in order to deal respectable damage and bring in a teammate safely to pick off the opponent.

**Endeavor**: Endeavor can be used on lead sets to deal significant damage to an opponent when combined with a Focus Sash.

**Perish Song**: In an emergency situation, Perish Song can be used to put a time limit on a particularly threatening opponent, such as a Dragon Dance sweeper or Calm Mind wall.

Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers improve Wigglytuff’s longevity, allowing it to live hits easier and more heal teammates with Wish and Baton Pass, especially when combined with Protect.

**Focus Sash**: Focus Sash allows Wigglytuff to live any single hit, allowing for the setting of Stealth Rock, or to facilitate a maximum power Endeavor.

Add Rocky Helmet for contact moves

Niche Items
========
**Light Clay**: Used on movesets with Reflect and Light Screen, Light Clay allows Wigglytuff to reduce incoming damage towards its teammates for longer.

**Life Orb**: On rare offensive stallbreaker sets, Life Orb may be used to supplement Wigglytuff’s pitiful base 85 Special Attack stat.

**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb can be used as a one-time nullification of Taunt or Encore, allowing Wigglytuff a guaranteed Stealth Rock or Thunder Wave pivot into a teammate via Baton Pass. Mental Herb higher than Life Orb probably

Tera
========
Wigglytuff should not be drafted with the express purpose of making it as a Tera Captain, due to its sub-par bulk and offensive stats. If Wigglytuff is given access to Tera as a low tier pick secondary Tera Capitan, Tera Fairy can be used to allow Wigglytuff to check fighting types and to bolster its Alluring Voice. Alternatively, Tera Fire can function as a lure vs steel types, resisting their supereffective coverage and hitting them back with a boosted Flamethrower or Fire Blast.

Draft Strategy
========
Wigglytuff should only be considered as a very niche pick for the main purpose of improving matchups against the common high tier ghost types, Dragapult and Spectrier helping teams that struggle with Ghost-, Dragon, and Dark-types. Using its large utility movepool for disruption, Wigglytuff can act as a very budget dragon and ghost type answer on teams particularly weak to these typings, but additional dragon and ghost resists should almost certainly be drafted elsewhere decent check to these types, but it should not be the only Pokemon on a team to fit every one of these roles.
For each section below aim for 3 example Pokemon for each. You should also check that they are avalible in Paldea Dex and are not banned.

**Offensive Psychic Types**: Wigglytuff’s ability to check the fastest ghost types means that it can take the pressure off of psychic type attackers by acting as a blanket to sponge incoming ghost and dark moves decently well, then gain offensive momentum back with Baton Pass. For this reason, Latios, Latias, and Tapu Lele Deoxys-S also not in sv may find themselves appreciating Wigglytuff’s type combination and support capabilities moreso than others.

**Entry Hazard Setters**: Wigglytuff is a Stealth Rock setter, and while it cannot be called reliable in the context of an extended match, it can alleviate pressure from other Stealth Rock setters such as Great Tusk, Iron Treads and Landorus-T and allow them to run more offensive movesets if required.

**Wallbreakers**: Wish support from Wigglytuff can be helpful for frail wallbreakers such as Darkrai and Iron Bundle partners that lack recovery Without Baton Pass it can't really Wish pass into frailer partners. to allow them additional opportunities to attack, especially due to Wigglytuff’s very high base 140 HP. Due to the high amount of HP recovered via Wish, Wigglytuff has an easier time healing bulkier wallbreakers like Annihilape and Raging Bolt Melmetal. Annihilape in particular benefits from Wish support as remaining on the field for longer improves the power of Rage Fist. Could split this section into wallbreakers that more like the Thunder Wave and Encore disruption and the bulky mons that lack recovery and like its big wish

Checks and Counters
========
**Disruption Taunt / Encore**: Bulky pivot Wigglytuff is highly reliant on status moves to provide support for its teammates, so Taunt from the likes of Ogerpon and Tornadus-T can completely disrupt Wigglytuff and allow for free turns of setup if Wigglytuff is not running disruption itself in the form of Alluring Voice. Mention Encore as well

**Steel and Fire Types**: While Wigglytuff carries coverage for steel types, many such as Gholdengo, Iron Treads, and Iron Crown are faster and either strong enough to OHKO Wigglytuff or bulky enough to shrug off non-STAB Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Wigglytuff does not carry any meaningful offensive coverage for most fire types and so struggles to deal significant damage. Heatran, Cinderace, and Chi-Yu can therefore reliably handle Wigglytuff with Taunt or strong offensive coverage and STAB fire moves.

Add Wallbreakers who can break through its Wish Protect shenanigans

add heavy-duty boots, put rocky helmet in niche.

**Light Clay**: Used on movesets with Reflect and Light Screen, Light Clay allows Wigglytuff to reduce incoming damage towards its teammates for longer.

**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb can be used as a one-time nullification of Taunt or Encore, allowing Wigglytuff a guaranteed Stealth Rock or Thunder Wave. Mental Herb is common on lead sets accompanied by Frisk to gain information about the opponent’s item before Wigglytuff is KO’d.

**Life Orb**: On rare offensive stallbreaker sets, Life Orb may be used to supplement Wigglytuff’s pitiful base 85 Special Attack stat.

Tera
========
Wigglytuff should not be drafted as a Tera Captain, due to its sub-par bulk and offensive stats. Wigglytuff should only be considered as a very nice pick for the main purpose of helping teams that struggle with Ghost-, Dragon-, and Dark Types. Using its large utility movepool for disruption, Wigglytuff can act as a decent check to these types, but it should not be the only Pokemon on a team to fit every one of these roles.

For this reason, Latios, Latias, and Deoxys-S may find themselves appreciating Wigglytuff’s type combination and support capabilities moreso than others. little too specific, can just have offensive threats.

**Entry Hazard Setters**: Wigglytuff is a Stealth Rock setter, and while it cannot be called reliable in the context of an extended match, it can alleviate pressure from other Stealth Rock setters such as Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Landorus-T and allow them to run more offensive movesets if required.

**Bulky Offense**: Wish support from Wigglytuff can be helpful for partners that lack recovery to allow them additional opportunities to attack, especially due to Wigglytuff's very high base 140 HP. Due to the high amount of HP recovered via Wish, Wigglytuff has an easier time healing bulkier walbreakers like Annihilape, Raging Bolt, and Garchomp. Annihilape in particular benefits from Wish support as remaining on the field for longer improves the power of Rage Fist.

**Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers like Ogerpon, Darkrai, and Iron Valiant appreciate the speed control afforded by Wigglytuff's Thunder Wave support, allowing them to outspeed and KO faster threats. Encore disruption from Wigglytuff helps to deal with particularly bulky walls and further enables its teammates to break through teams, while it appreciates the wallbreaking power they provide.

Checks and Counters
========
Encore from Annihilape, Iron Valiant, and Iron Bundle can completely shut down Wigglytuff and allow for free turns of setup or damage as Encore locks Wigglytuff into Wish or Knock Off.

Due to the predictability of this set, setup sweepers can use the turns when Wigglytuff Protects to boost their offenses with Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, or Nasty Plot. Most of these Pokemon do need to fear its Thunder Wave, however.

Wigglytuff is typically used in this role to disrupt the opponent’s offence and setup sweepers, with moves like Thunder Wave, Encore, and Alluring Voice typically also being run depending on the matchup.

**Offensive**: Although rare, Wigglytuff’s competitive ability and access to a wide variety of typings for specially offensive coverage moves mean that Wigglytuff can be run as a stallbreaker once in a blue moon with Calm Mind or Nasty Plot. Flamethrower and Fire Blast may surprise incoming Steel-types such as Scizor and Corviknight, and bulkier walls are susceptible to Wigglytuff’s special coverage or disruption through Taunt, Encore, and Disable. If you have to start off a section with "Although rare" it probably shouldn't be in common roles

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Alluring Voice, Hyper Voice, Play Rough, Body Slam.

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Calm Mind.

**Utility Moves**: Knock Off, Stealth Rock, Wish, Thunder Wave, Taunt, Encore, Disable, Reflect, Light Screen, Brick Break, Protect, Psychic Noise

**Coverage**: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Energy Ball, Focus Blast, Psychic Noise, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Psyshock

Niche Moves
========
**Misty Explosion**: Misty Explosion can be used on lead Wigglytuff movesets in order to deal respectable damage and bring in a teammate safely to pick off the opponent.

**Perish Song**: In an emergency situation, Perish Song can be used to put a time limit on a particularly threatening opponent, such as a Dragon Dance sweeper or Calm Mind wall.

Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers improve Wigglytuff’s longevity, allowing it to live hits easier and more heal teammates with Wish and Baton Pass, especially when combined with Protect.

**Rocky Helmet**: Wigglytuff's passable bulk allows it to switch in on physical attackers, using Rocky Helmet to inflict damage on against opponents with contact moves, and notably U-turn.

add heavy-duty boots, put rocky helmet in niche.

Niche Items
========

Tera
========
Wigglytuff should not be drafted as a Tera Captain, due to its sub-par bulk and offensive stats. If Wigglytuff is given access to Tera as a secondary Tera Captain, Tera Fairy can be used to allow Wigglytuff to check fighting types and to bolster its Alluring Voice. Alternatively, Tera Fire can function as a lure vs Steel-types, resisting their supereffective coverage and hitting them back with a boosted Flamethrower or Fire Blast.

Draft Strategy
========

**Offensive Psychic-Types**: Wigglytuff’s ability to check the fastest Ghost-types means that it can take the pressure off of Psychic-type attackers by acting as a blanket to sponge incoming ghost and dark moves decently well.

========
Encore from Annihilape, Iron Valiant, and Iron Bundle can completely shut down Wigglytuff and allow for free turns of setup or damage as Encore locks Wigglytuff into Wish or Knock Off.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Naturally strong wallbreakers like Gouging Fire, Ursaluna, Kyurem, and Thundurus-T may overwhelm Wigglytuff's bulk and push past its Wish + Protect strategy. Due to the predictability of this set, setup sweepers can use the turns when Wigglytuff Protects to boost their offenses with Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, or Nasty Plot. Most of these Pokemon do need to fear its Thunder Wave, however.

Thank you! Changes have been implemented. Expanded the "Offensive Threats" section in "Draft Strategy" to include a more general analysis, not focusing solely on Psychic-types.

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8

**Price Range**: 1-2 points

**Overview**: Wigglytuff on paper looks very promising as a low tier bulky support piece, with access to the Fairy typing, a gargantuan HP stat, and an enormous support movepool. Wigglytuff is generally unable to fill the same defensive roles as other Fairy-types (elaborate on this, you did mention wiggly's positives but what can't it do that other higher priced Fairy-types can?), and as such should not be your first choice for a Fairy-type on your draft, but it can be serviceable in a pinch. However, Wigglytuff does find an interesting niche as a solid check to Ghost-, Dragon-, and Dark-types, and can leverage its support movepool and coverage to assist teammates well during certain matchups.

Using its large utility movepool for disruption, Wigglytuff can act as a decent check to these types Pokemon, but it should not be the only Pokemon on a team to fit every one of cover these roles.

**Offensive Threats**: Disruption utility in the form of Thunder Wave provided by Wigglytuff is enjoyed by offensive threats such as Darkrai, Tornadus-T, and Enamorus-I Enamorus, who which in particular appreciate speed control and can find more opportunities to wallbreak of set-up or set up. Wigglytuff’s ability to be a blanket check to Ghost- and Dark-types means that it can take the pressure off of Psychic-type attackers by acting as a blanket to sponge by sponging incoming Ghost- and dark Dark-type moves decently well. Latios and Deoxys-S therefore appreciate Wigglytuff’s type combination typing and support capabilities moreso than others.

**Entry Hazard Setters**: Wigglytuff is a Stealth Rock setter, and while it cannot might not be called reliable in the context of an extended match, it can alleviate pressure from other Stealth Rock setters such as Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Landorus-T and allow them to run more offensive movesets if they're required.

Checks and Counters
========

**Steel- and Fire Types Fire-types**: While Wigglytuff carries coverage for steel types Steel-types, many such as Gholdengo, Iron Treads, and Iron Crown are faster and either strong enough to OHKO Wigglytuff or bulky enough to shrug off non-STAB Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Wigglytuff does not carry any meaningful offensive coverage for most fire types Fire-types and so struggles to deal significant damage. Heatran, Cinderace, and Chi-Yu can therefore reliably handle Wigglytuff with Taunt or strong offensive coverage and STAB fire Fire-type moves.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Naturally strong wallbreakers like Gouging Fire, Ursaluna, and Thundurus-T may overwhelm Wigglytuff's bulk and push past its Wish + Protect strategy. Due to the predictability of this set, setup sweepers can use the turns when that Wigglytuff Protects uses Protect to boost their offenses with Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, or Nasty Plot. Most of these Pokemon do need to fear its Thunder Wave, however.
