Why is Swampert so over-used?

I checked its Base Stats.

HP - 100. Yeah, not bad, can reach 404 HP and has SubPunch potential.

Attack - 110. Decent, but not very exceptional. Matches that of Lucario's, Arcanine's, and Snorlax's.

Defense - 90. Now, this is what confuses me. Everyone raves on about its tank-like stat spread, but it's Base Defense doesn't reach 100! It would be a nice bonus as a sweeper, but as a tank just seems to fail.

Special Attack - 85. Alright, but Swampert doesn't use Sp Att anyways so this is irrelevent.

Special Defense - 90. Again, kinda irrelevent as everyone uses him as a Physical tank, but still kind of dismal.

Speed - 60. Again, irrelevent because everyone uses him as a tank.

It's stats seemed just average.

Then I looked at movepool. (Some frequently-used moves)

Earthquake - Yeah, it gets STAB, but what's so special?

Waterfall - Ditto.

Avalanche - A nice move for him, but what's special?

Curse - This is a great move for him, but it still is somewhat under-used.

Stealth Rock/Roar - Is pretty frequent on him, but his defenses aren't good enough for it.

Endeavor - Uh, hello? Nearly everyone ignores this attack for him.

Refresh - Same.

Uproar - Same (good for Rest-Talkers)

Hammer Arm - Good for Bliss and such, but doesn't help his type coverage hugely.

All in all, he gets a nice array of powerful Physical attacks, but little that help him as a tank, like a recovery move.

This was my first look into Swampert, and I'm not very impressed. Can someone give me a straight answer as to why he's such a threat?

I've also seen that swampert is somewhat one a mediocere wall stat-wise. It's his TYPEing that makes him so good. Water ground gives him only a weakness to grass types, and most grass type moves are eaasy to predict, also, his ability to work as a mixed tank helps alot.

Good resistances, decent offense, only ground type with acceptable SDef too.The HP and defenses are still pretty good, and he can threaten things like metagross and most ground/rocks which are pretty common.

Yeah, but Water-Ground also doesn't resist much. Rock, Electric, and Fire is it, and Rock is the only commonly-used type of those three.

Uhhhhhhhhh, he's better than the other options?

I always thought Whiscash had a fantastic movepool, I mean seriously. IT LEARNS ZEN HEADBUTT!! IT LEARNS SPARK!! XD Too bad Whiscash isnt that strong.

Quagsire, he just sucks. Period.

Gastrodon is better as a tank/staller, with Recover, Amnesia, etc, but still, the stats.

There certainly is better bulky waters out there, but I guess that Swampert is used becuase he's the best Water/Ground type. Also, some teams don't have a grass move on them. BIG MISTAKE.

It's the typing that sets him apart. Especially being immune to electric and resistant against rock.

Only thing left to figure out is if he's a water type with ground perks or a ground type with water perks :D

Yeah, but Water-Ground also doesn't resist much. Rock, Electric, and Fire is it, and Rock is the only commonly-used type of those three.
All three are pretty common.....If you're telling us Fire and Electric aren't common, then your lieing

Swampert is over used, maybe because people like his typing and abilities?

Quagsire sucks? If Swampert had Quag's trait he would be retardedly OP. Also I laughed out loud about how you listed out Perts great moveset and next to some of his most powerful moves put things like "oh, whats so special about this?!"

Well, basically, Swampert's defenses are overall quite decent (you underrate its defenses too much), and it has good typing, so it's unlikely to die in one hit to anything but a Grass attack with STAB or coming off a very high Special Attack. That means it can easily get off a Stealth Rock. Rock resistance is also very valuable in D/P with the Stone Edges that are getting thrown around; overall, Swampert is just a good utility Pokemon.

You honestly did? Well then, I'll strap you to a chair and force you to watch the original seasons of the Simpsons until you no longer find differing opinions funny.

I didn't say he as a bad water, but I would consider him more of a ground, considering the general mold of bulky waters seem to be more special oriented or have reliable recoveries but that's just my opinion so whatever.

Well then see, that's just it. Your opinion is that Swampert sucks and is subpar compared to other Grounds or water or something. So why question other's opinions about it? Surely, you have your own opinion as to what is a good tank and I'm sure others would question that, but does that make it any less of a good Poke to you?
