Vaporeon establishes itself as a great defensive Pokemon that is able to take on a variety of foes like Volcanion, Empoleon, and Basculegion-F with its ability, Water Absorb, while also Wish passing to its teammates to heal them up. Haze allows Vaporeon to remove stat boosts from setup sweepers such as Armarouge, Slowbro, and Suicune, while Flip Turn allows Vaporeon to safely bring in its teammates so they can recover through Vaporeon's Wish passing without taking damage. Protect allows Vaporeon to scout Choice-locked attacks from wallbreakers such as Galarian Zapdos and Gengar while allowing it to safely recover using Wish. Leftovers helps Vaporeon to keep itself healthy and can synergize well with Protect to help it stall out burned foes. Tera Poison makes Vaporeon immune to Toxic, allowing it to easily switch into Pokemon such as Umbreon and Fezandipiti. Tera Dark makes Vaporeon immune to Psychic Noise from Slowbro and Reuniclus, which allows it to recover using Wish, while also letting it take Psyshock or Stored Power from Armarouge, as well as allowing it to take Knock Off from Krookodile much more easily.
Vaporeon fits best on bulky offense and balance teams where it can form crucial backbones in order to wall Pokemon such as Suicune and Basculegion-F. Bulky attackers such as Hisuian Goodra, Raikou, and Galarian Zapdos heavily appreciate Vaporeon, as it grants Wish support to them while they pair nicely with it defensively. Special walls such as Registeel and Jirachi synergize with Vaporeon and take powerful special attacks from Pokemon such as Calm Mind Reuniclus and Raikou, while Vaporeon is able to keep them healthy through Wish passing. Dragon-types such as Cyclizar and Hisuian Goodra pair well with Vaporeon, as they can take on the Electric- and Grass-type attacks aimed at it from Raikou, Oricorio-E, and Amoonguss. Entry hazard removers such as Talonflame and Galarian Weezing pair well with Vaporeon, removing hazards that may overwhelm it, while Vaporeon is able to Wish pass to them to keep them healthy. Stealth Rock setters such as Krookodile and Registeel can help wear down foes, while Vaporeon can keep them healthy with Wish, so they can continue to come in and set Stealth Rock up multiple times during the game.
