[SET]
name: Wallbreaker
move 1: Steam Eruption
move 2: Flamethrower
move 3: Earth Power / Fire Spin
move 4: Tera Blast / Sludge Bomb / Taunt
item: Choice Specs / Heavy-Duty-Boots
tera type: Fairy / Ground
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Modest
evs: 4 HP / 4 Def / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Volcanion is a dangerous wallbreaker in the tier thanks to its monstrous Special Attack combined with its fantastic STAB moves. Its typing also allows it to function as an offensive Water-type able to threaten Grass-types such as Rillaboom and Ogerpon. Steam Eruption lets Volcanion pressure Pokemon switching in by threatening a burn. Earth Power allows Volcanion to hit Galarian Slowking, Raging Bolt, Water Absorb Clodsire, and opposing Volcanion super effectively. Tera Blast Fairy rounds out its coverage and allows Volcanion to hit Dragon-types such as Dragonite, Roaring Moon, and Dragapult. Alternatively, Sludge Bomb can be used to hit Primarina, Hatterene, and Clefable super effectively as well as OHKO Ogerpon-W. The bulk EVs allow Volcanion to survive +2 Weavile's Knock Off and Life Orb Darkrai's Dark Pulse after Stealth Rock. Taunt can be used instead on Heavy-Duty Boots variants to allow Volcanion to deny recovery attempts from defensive Pokemon such as Alomomola, Blissey, and Dondozo. Fire Spin + Taunt is an option to trap passive foes, particularly walls like Blissey and Alomomola, and rack up significant amounts of passive damage. Tera Ghost can be used alongside both Fire Spin and Taunt to give Volcanion an immunity to Seismic Toss and Body Press from Blissey and Zamazenta, respectively, allowing Volcanion to trap and beat them. Choice Specs lets Volcanion maximize its offensive prowess, most notably letting it guarantee a 2HKO Galarian Slowking and Dragapult with Steam Eruption and Earth Power, respectively. Alternatively, Heavy-Duty Boots can be used over Choice Specs to grant Volcanion an immunity to entry hazards. Tera Ground grants Volcanion an immunity to Electric-type attacks from Pokemon such as Zapdos and Raging Bolt in addition to maximizing the power of Earth Power, allowing it to break through Galarian Slowking more easily.
Volcanion fits best on balance and bulky offense teams thanks to it providing teams a powerful wallbreaker. If running Choice Specs, Volcanion can have a tough time trying to get into battle due to it being weak to entry hazards, so pivots such as Zapdos, Galarian Slowking, and Corviknight can all provide safe switch-in opportunities for Volcanion to bypass this. Corviknight can also provide Defog support, allowing it to clear entry hazards for Volcanion to grab opportunities to switch in and wallbreak. In return, Volcanion can threaten Fire-types such as Cinderace, Heatran, and Moltres for Corviknight. Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Ting-Lu, Gliscor, and Landorus-T can help Volcanion overwhelm bulkier Pokemon such as Kyurem, Galarian Slowking, and Primarina. Volcanion also appreciates their ability to deal with Electric-types such as Zapdos and Raging Bolt in addition to Landorus-T's ability to pivot Volcanion in with U-turn. In return, Volcanion can handle Water-types such as Alomomola, Primarina, and Ogerpon-W for them while being able to switch in on Fire-types like Moltres and Heatran. Physical wallbreakers such as Weavile, Dragonite, and Kingambit are great partners, as they can handle special walls such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking. Weavile, Dragonite, and Kingambit can all bring strong priority to the table, allowing them to revenge kill faster threats such as Roaring Moon and Darkrai, In return, Volcanion can deal with physical walls such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and non-Terastallized Garganacl for them. Volcanion can get worn down quickly if it's not running Heavy-Duty Boots due to its weakness to Stealth Rock, so entry hazard control from Pokemon such as Cinderace, Great Tusk, and Hatterene can help alleviate this issue. Cinderace can also provide safe switch-in opportunites for Volcanion thanks to U-turn, while Great Tusk can also provide entry hazards for Volcanion; both Cinderace and Great Tusk benefit from Volcanion handling Water-types. Hatterene can also provide Healing Wish support, allowing Volcanion to have a second assault if it gets low on health, while also being able to provide paralysis support against faster Pokemon such as Darkrai and Iron Valiant. In return, Volcanion can check Steel-types such as Corviknight and Gholdengo for Hatterene.
