Ambipom

Item: Normal Gem - Silk Scarf - Life Orb - Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Spe - 252 Atk
Attack 1: Fake Out - Agility - Hone Claws - Protect
Attack 2: Last Resort

I rarely see people running sets like this and I wonder how viable it is. I had some success with it so far. Having Ambipom as your 6th pokemon,, trully your Last Resort, with a Last Resort set may give you a win in some games.

The idea is simple, have Ambipom as your final pokemon and hope your opponent uses all his counters before late game. Then procced to sweep with him.

Ambipom haves STAB on Last Resort, which means it turns into a 210 power move. Normal does neutral damage to everything minus Rock, Steel and Ghost (the said counters). This means that, with 252 Atk EVs and Normal Gem, Silk Scarf or Life Orb you can 1HKO/2HKO anything that doesnt resist it.

Also, since Ambipom natural highe speed, 252 Spe Jolly Ambipom will outspeed everything expect for:
* Weavile and Crobat (UU) (non Agility set)
* Jolteon, Alakazam and Dugtrio (OU) (non Agility set)
* Anything with Choice Scarf (non Agility set)
* Priority moves

With Focus Sash you can make sure you +2 Spe with Agility or +1 Atk with Hone Claws, making your sweep much easier. However, this obviously fails if there are weather or entry hazards on the field as they break the full HP needed for Focus Sash. However, after Agility you will outspeed everything minus Priority moves.

Fake Out becomes a 96/104 with Silk Scarf or Life Orb thanks to STAB and Technician. That breaks Focus Sash, Sturdy, Multiscale, and allows many 1HKO that otherwise would have been 2HKO (specially if combined with entry hazards). Aditionally, if you play with Toxic Spikes you can play a set of Fake Out, Protect and Final Gambit, allowing you to make use the poison to a full extent.

Protect allows you to make a HUGE 280 Final Gambit thanks to Normal Gem and STAB (since Fake Out would burn it).

So... what are your thoughs about it?

Eh, I've seen this set thrown around a lot and honestly it's not that good. For starters, Rock, Steel, and Ghost type Pokemon laugh at it. Froslass, Golurk, Dusclops, and Mismagius all use this Pokemon as set up fodder. Bronzong, Rhyperior, and Registeel can wall it, and IIRC Cobalion sets up on it.

The purpose of this set is to hit hard, but with a type that's resisted by so many Pokemon Ambipom is just not worth using in current UU. If you were to use this set, Fake Out is the best move for it with a Silk Scarf or a Normal Gem, because if the opponent sees an Ambipom on your team, they'll think "attack it and kill it" since Ambipom can't take a hit worth balls.

Ambipom, also, is one of the most overrated Pokemon in UU at the moment, and really isn't worth a team slot as far as I've seen. I would avoid using Ambipom altogether.

Pretty much what Lolcat said. Ambipom already has issues with anything that resists normal, as this is just exasperating the problem. It's not as though Scarfers are rare, and even STAB Last Resort isn't that strong, I mean something like Gligar that has good defense can easily absorb it even though it doesn't resist Normal (252 Atk Life Orb Ambipom Last Resort vs 252 HP/252 Def Eviolite Gligar (+Def) : 35.03% - 41.32%) and either PP Stall Last Resort or straight up just smack away with EQ. Ambipom seems great but honestly it's just not that good, I would stick to something like Honchkrow, Bisharp or Hitmontop if you really need strong priority (protip: you probably don't).
Also, this OP isn't much basis for discussion, next time you should either make a full post about Ambipom in his entirety, not just one set (assuming there isn't already an Ambipom thread) or post this in the Simple Question/Simple Answer thread next time.

Yeah, what FastFlygon said. Due to the inability of this thread to create significant discussion, I will now lock it :o
