Venusaur under sun is one of the most potent offensive threats available thanks to the boost in Speed provided by its ability, Growth, and its solid coverage. Furthermore, Venusaur's great matchup against common defensive Pokemon like Seismitoad, Sylveon, and Gastrodon gives it plenty of opportunities to set up with Growth. With sun support, Venusaur's Weather Ball gives it coverage for Steel-types such as Corviknight, Aegislash, and Ferrothorn. Although sun provides Venusaur with a single-turn Solar Beam, Giga Drain is preferred to stave off Life Orb recoil and let it take resisted hits from Pokemon like Seismitoad more frequently, although Earth Power is a possible alternative to hit Toxapex and Bulletproof Kommo-o harder and give Venusaur a way to hit Steel-types outside of sun. Once set-up, Venusaur is hard to stop; however, proper prediction is key to avoid the opponent stalling sun turns.
Torkoal is mandatory alongside Venusaur; it sets sun and also provides Stealth Rock, which helps to wear down the opposing team. Other Pokemon that can take advantage of the sun, such as Darmanitan, also make good teammates, helping break through checks such as Kommo-o, Rotom-H, and Mandibuzz early-game for Venusaur to clean. Dugtrio and Mandibuzz are also great teammates; Dugtrio deals with Toxapex so it can't remove Venusaur's boosts with Haze and potentially stall sun turns, while Mandibuzz gives sun teams Defog support and a check to threatening attackers like Dragapult and Hydreigon.
