Venusaur strikes back!

Hey guys,

since I read Doughboy's thread about his defensive team, I got inspired to make my own defensive team. The only difference is, that my Mega is the one and only Mega Venusaur which can stall you to death.

1. Introduction

The main idea was making use of Mega Venusaur's tankiness: It's the "Mother of Bulk" with high defensive stats, Leech Seed, an acceptable recovery move in Synthesis and adding his new ability Thick Fat gains a good typing too, although Psychich is pretty common in Espeon and Mega Alakazam. I ended up creating a team with Mega Venusaur some support and other ideas I came up with.

2. The Process of Team Building

Venusaur was obviously the first one in the Hood, as I wanted to create a team around his awesome stall ability. The only problem were some weaknesses like Talonflame or strong Psychich Pokémon like the Mega forms of Alakazan and Guardevoir.

These two bad boys joined my Venusaur on his misson. Heatran and Venusaur are a perfect defensive core and can wall the shit out of your opponent, even though Thick Fat already weakens Fire attacks, an immunity is always better. Gyarados was the second one to be part of my team and I have chosen it because Fire/Water/Grass is probably the best defensive combination ever and with its Flying type it can take the EQs that Heatran doesn't want to take.

Because I also wanted to make use of the Eviolite

I chose Togetic and Dusclops to become part of my gang. Dusclops is an awesome Pokémon with incredible defensive stats and good support movepool and Togetic... Well to be honest it was awful and so it only had a short time in my team.

Reuniclus was the last one I added. It has good bulk too and it is a good counter for other Mega Venusaur which can cause problems and almost endless Stall Battles. And then my team seemed ready...

But as I already spoilered Togetic didn't worked as well as I thought and also Gyarados didn't really fit in my team and then I switched them for Gastrodon (which became one of my favourite Pokémon in the team) and Forretress which can spin the Spikes away that Togetic wanted to defog, it also has the ability to bring its own Spikes which is pretty useful.

Eventhough it seemed finished, Reuniclus wasn't as good as I thought and most of the time got defeated before it could be useful and that was when I replaced with Gliscor which is a good Stallbreaker.

For now that is the team I'm using.

3. Movesets

SoBaked (Venusaur) (M)
Bisaflornit.png

Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 4 SpA / 124 SpD
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis
- Protect
This set was created to take as many hits as possible. It is invested in both defensive stats so it can take hits both ways and regain health with Synthesis and attack with Giga Drain. The Protect works in perfect combination with the Leech Seed and Toxic from the other team members.

I chose the nickname "SoBaked" because Venusaur looks like a stoner in almost any 3D game like Stadium or Collosseum.

(BAN ME PLEASE) (Heatran) (M)
ueberreste.png

Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature

- Lava Plume
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
This is my Heatran set. It's invested in Special Defense to take at least some Scalds. Talonflame isn't even strong enough to do huge damage but the Roar/Stealth Rock combination can stop it and defeat it.
I chose Lava Plume because the chance of getting a burn is high than on Flamethrower and i invested a bit in it's Special Attack so it can at least take out Bisharp.

The nickname is a funny story. Once i asked my three year old cousin to tell me a nickname for Heatran and he said (BAN ME PLEASE). It made me laugh so hard that I gave the name to every Heatran i caught.

SlimyViking (Gastrodon) (F)
ueberreste.png

Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Calm Nature

- Stockpile
- Toxic
- Recover
- Scald
This is probably my favourite set on the whole team. Stockpile on Gastrodon is almost never used but totally underrated. When it gets one Stockpile it will almost alwazs get another one and then it's almost impossible to kill it. The Sticky Hold is also a little troll factor that I like to use and prevents my team from the annoying knock off. Storm Drain isn't really needed when Venusaur can also take Water attacks pretty well.
The nickname is pretty obvius, it looks like a viking and snails are slimey. I first wanted to call it StickyViking but I was worried if it would take the surprise factor.
205.gif

Foster (Forretress) (M)
ueberreste.png

Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Volt Switch

This is my Forretress set. It is bulky, it can spin, and set up spikes. It's the standard set but it's the best set. There is no more explenation needed.

I chose the nickname because Foster sounds a bit like Forretress. It's a bit lame but I didn't had a better idea.
356.gif

InvisibleTits (Dusclops) (M)
evolith.png

Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
-
Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Infestation
- Night Shade
Another one of my favourite sets in this team. It's a good support set and can also deal a good ammount of damage on annoying tanks like Chansey. Infestion is another good move that can trap your opponent and add some passive damage. I chose Night Shade over Seismic Toss because Ghost types are more common these days than Normal types. Will-O-Wisp is a good way too stop physical threads like Garchomp. Its typing also makes it a Spin Blocker eventhough Defog is more common since the Buff.

I named it InvisibleTits cause his sprite looks like he's grabbing inivisible Boobs and I think it's funny but that's just my opinion.
472.gif

JenniM (Gliscor) (M)
toxik-orb.png

Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Impish Nature

- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Roost
- Taunt

That's my little stallbreaker. It can Taunt annozing Pokemon like Mandibuzz and other Mega Venusaur. Earthquake is an important attacking move for other Heatran and Tyranitar. Toxic is the obvious move but it works and why shoudn't I go for it. Roost is the reciverz move of choice but it's important not to overpredict.

Gliscor is a little bitch and that's why I called it like my math teacher. You probably know it now but i don't like my math teacher.

Thanks for reading, if you know anything to improve feel free to comment. :)

Wish support would be really nice on this team, where you have two pokemon without reliable recovery, I would suggest running chansey over dusclops, with a move set of:
Wish
Protect
Aromatherapy
Seismic toss

Alss would also suggest running toxic over taunt on heatran, as it is slower than every setup sweeper anyways.

Moving on ^^ fortress is not really good on a stall team, as it is setup forder for everything, and with no real check for those, I would suggest using skarmory instead, it can also provide spikes support, as well as being able to whirlwind, defog and keep itself healthy with roost ^^

Lastly running quaqsire over gastrodon could also be beneficial, as it is a really good check to physical setup sweepers!

That's my suggestions ^^ cheers!
