Iron Valiant's great offensive stats and wide movepool make it a great Sheer Force wallbreaker. Its coverage is almost perfect: barring the use of abilities that provide an immunity to Iron Valiant's attacks, Corviknight, Skeledirge, Gholdengo, Iron Moth, and Clodsire are all at risk of being OHKOed or 2HKOed after minor chip damage. To more reliably defeat Ghost-types, Iron Valiant can even run Shadow Ball instead of Thunderbolt or Knock Off over Psychic-type coverage. A Naive nature is used to maximize the amount of targets Iron Valiant outspeeds, such as Iron Moth, Iron Treads, and Garchomp. Iron Valiant fits best on balance teams that appreciate its ability to pave the way for other dangerous attackers like Dragapult and Great Tusk. Iron Valiant appreciates allies that can keep the field clear of entry hazards, such as Corviknight and Avalugg, and also switch in on dangerous priority like Dragonite's Extreme Speed.

Moonblast is Iron Valiant's strongest and most used attack, with Close Combat to aid in destroying special walls like Chansey or Ice Scales users. Zen Headbutt targets Clodsire on its weaker Special Defense and heavily threatens Iron Moth. Iron Valiant's best fit is on balance teams that appreciate its wallbreaking ability to pave the way for other dangerous attackers like Dragapult and Great Tusk. AIron Valiant also appreciates allies that can keep the field clear of entry hazards, such as Corviknight and Avalugg, can help maintain Iron Valiant's limited healthpool and also switch in on dangerous priority like Dragonite's Extreme Speed.
