XY UU UU Purple Nurples (Mega Absol and friends)

I'm a beginner to UU, but I'm really liking the tier so far - after trying to make my way up the OU ladder and faltering badly, I found myself a lot more comfortable with the UU playstyle. I originally built this team around Hydreigon, but I was underwhelmed with him in the few battles that I played. Mega Absol seemed to have great sweeping potential (plus Absol is one my my favorite Pokemon), so I swapped Hydreigon out for her, and I was suddenly winning a lot more. But I still haven't won as many matches as I'd like to - which is the purpose of this RMT, to potentially give this team the tweaks that it needs to really shine. The original team had 4 purple Pokemon on it, hence the name. :P

Absol (F) @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower

Mega Absol has frightening potential - with once swords dance under her belt, she sweeps like nobody's business. Sucker Punch is a godsend for this Pokemon - an 80 power STAB priority move is hard to beat by anybody's standards, and Mega Absol wouldn't be able to function in UU without it. Superpower helps Absol take on steel types that would otherwise wall and quite possibly K.O her, and Knock Off is mainly used when I predict that an opponent is going to use a boosting move that would nullify Sucker Punch (plus, the added bonus of removing the opponents item never hurts). This moveset has been very successful for me, but I might consider swapping out Knock Off for something that might offer Absol a little more type coverage. As for normal Absol, the objective is to evolve as soon as she enters the battle, although I have been able to take advantage of Justified on a couple of occasions.

Lucario (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Extreme Speed

Lucario has the same awesome sweeping potential as Mega Absol, but she offers different type coverage that has good synergy with my other physical sweeper. If one of these guys goes down, I can usually rely on the other to clean up for me. Extreme Speed is great for late game cleaning, and Close Combat will annihilate pretty much anything that doesn't resist it after a Swords Dance. I originally had Crunch in place of Ice Punch, but it seemed redundant with Absol's dark type moves.

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Rapid Spin

Frail sweepers like Lucario and Absol need Rapid Spin support, and hence, Starmie found it's way onto the team. I like Starmie for it's speed and high SP Atk, since Absol and Lucario are purely physical attackers. However, because of it's frailty, I often find switching into Starmie difficult - the starfish gets knocked out a lot before it gets a chance to perform it's basic function of spinning hazards away. Still, I feel like I might just not be playing this Pokemon right yet - though I am open to the idea of a different spinner if there is a better one out there for this team. Not interested in Defog users though - I rely on hazards too much to risk sweeping my own away.

Chandelure (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Trick
- Memento

The main special attacker on this team. Fire Blast packs an incredible amount of power (damn it's shoddy accuracy, though), and Shadow Ball offers good type coverage. Chandy also functions as a spin blocker, which is handy for this team. Trick and Memento both help force switches and generally mess with the opponents strategy, which never hurts.

Crobat (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 120 Atk / 4 SpD / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Toxic
- Cross Poison

Crobat is my safeguard against Fairies, who can (and do, occasionally) give this team a hard time. I used to run Roost instead of Cross Poison, but I found myself rarely using it, and I needed an offensive move that would hit Faeries harder and scare more of them away.

Shuckle (F) @ Mental Herb
Ability: Sturdy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sticky Web
- Stealth Rock
- Encore
- Toxic

Shuckle is the bomb. His longevity as a hazard setter is incredible - with the help of Mental Herb, he almost always gets Sticky Web and Stealth Rock set up, and a lot of the time, he poisons one (or two) of the opponents Pokemon for good measure. Encore occasionally gives me a chance to set up one of my sweepers or get a free switch in, but Shuckies' main role on the team is to make sure that Sticky Web and Stealth Rock are set up, and he does it beautifully. Once the opponents team is slowed down and damaged by rocks, it makes my sweepers job that much easier.

Solid team however the team seems to have a glaring weakness to offensive mega blastoise as it can take hits from both lucario and absol and retaliate back and Ohko them. With no energy ball on chandelure it can survive one shadow ball and Ohko with dark pulse. Starmie has the same problem it can take a thunderbolt and OHKO back with dark pulse. I think a good way to deal with this include a special wall such as blissey or florges both will help you team with status that runs heavy in UU and provide wish support for the sweeper of the team. A bold nature florges with 252 hp 232 def and 24 SpD is a good spread to help talk physical hits and special at the same time with little investment. Moonblast protect wish and aromatherapy are usually what it runs.

I actually thought about adding Florges to this team before. And it's true that I've struggled with Mega Blastiose - nobody on my team can OHKO him without boosts. Florges is one of the Pokemon that gave me problems while I was first testing this team, so I know that it's a solid Pokemon. I want to try her out now. :D

Yea florges can also run toxic over aromatherapy since mega absol have magic bounce therefore giving you an easier time in wearing it down.

a point to note is that steal no longer resists dark, and the only steal that I ever see in uu are Durant and Ferroseed, so I would try play rough over super power on absol to better hit fighting and dark types who resist suckser punch

the absol I use ( see link in sig) uses Barton pass to help keep momentum and pass a sd

True however play rough and knock are not legal together so he would have to drop Knock off for night slash. However this odds give absol an easier time in dealing with fairy types in the tier
Like florges and aromatisse with normal resist both superpower and knock and OHKO back with moonblast.

I think I'm going to try Play Rough/Night Slash for a bit and see how that works for me. I like the idea of a move that won't lower my attack like Superpower does (seeing as Absol is a physical sweeper and all) and Play Rough gives me an advantage over fighting types that I didn't have before. Night Slash should do the trick in the absence of Knock Off, since I don't use Knock Off very often anyway.
to bad he doesn't get crunch
I've seen people mix, using fire blast to hit steel types who still wall dark fairy

Lol I deleted the original post that you quoted somehow...haven't posted on any forums is way too long, lol. Yeah. Crunch would be awesome for Mega Absol. So far the new moveset seems ot function about the same as the old one, haven't really run into the right situations to test it properly yet.

I did make an alternate version of the team that replaced Crobat with Florges. So far I think I'm liking this lineup better, she really seems to be helping the team with some of it's bigger weaknesses.

Hi, just a quick rate since this team seems pretty set on what's it is trying to accomplish and I don't want to change the overall structure of the team too much. Lucario MUST be running Crunch, it doesn't matter about the redundancy with Absol, when push comes to shove, if Lucario doesn't have the correct moves to beat Slowbro, Mew etc, it's gonna be worse having a move that can't kill them than one you consider to have 'redundant' coverage. Starmie's moveset should also be Hydro Pump over Scald to capitalise on the power increase from Analytic and Psyshock over Psychic to do significant damage to Blissey. Also, considering how weak your team is to Mega-Aerodactyl (a common theme among HO teams), I would suggest running Bullet Punch over Extremespeed as a means of killing Aero before it can kill you. The moveset of Crobat also needs a bit of work, it should have Roost over Toxic and Taunt over Cross Poison so Crobat can act as an effective stallbreaker. Other than that, there isn't too much else I can add without drastically changing your team make up which I obviously don't want to do since this is your team not mine :] The only other suggestion I could think of would be adding in Galvantula over Shuckle and running Mega-Aerodactyl over Crobat. This gives your team more offense in 2 team slots and can somewhat remedy your weaknesses. You can find the movesets of both Pokemon below;

galvantula.gif

Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- Thunder
- Sticky Web
- Bug Buzz
- Thunder Wave

aerodactyl-mega.gif

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge / Aqua Tail
- Aerial Ace
- Roost

But that's about all. Hopefully I have helped and you can find success on the ladder, good luck and welcome to UU n_n

The only other suggestion I could think of would be adding in Galvantula over Shuckle and running Mega-Aerodactyl over Crobat.

Running Mega-Aerodactyl means he can't run Mega-Absol so either he changes the Team to "Aerodactyl and friends" or he has to stick with Crobat

That being said the Crobat set does need work so here's two options worth considering:

Option One: Standard Crobat

Crobat @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 168 HP / 136 Atk / 4 SpD / 200 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Defog
- Taunt

The EV Spread is designed to give you an odd HP (353), Reasonable Attack Stat (250), preventing Porgyon2 and PorgygonZ from getting Special Attack Boosts from Download and most importantly giving you enough speed to outspeed Alakazam (non-Mega of course)

Seeing as you have a Spinner Defog should be dropped for U-Turn (however it is worth noting that Stealth Rock is the only hazard that even affects Crobat and Defog gets rid of Screens). Cross Poison is rather lacking on a Crobat that isn't purely offensive and seeing as most Fairies are Special Walls they won't be staying in on you anyways. However since it seems like you're trying to use Crobat as more of an offensive pivot and Fairy check then the next set might be more to your liking...

Option Two: Offensive Crobat

Crobat @ Choice Band
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Cross Poison
- Defog/Sleep Talk/Super Fang

Rather than being a hazard clearer/defensive pivot Crobat becomes a great offensive pivot. This set is obviously meant to be Hit and Run like all Banded Pokes and it means you're going to be relying more heavily on Starmie to keep Stealth Rock off your field (since that's the only hazard Crobat will ever care about). If you feel Cross Poison is that necessary then there's no sense trying to fit it on a defensive set since with a Choice Band Max Attack any Fairy in the Tier will die to a Cross Poison (or at the very least take a huge amount of damage if they are physical/mixed walls). Being locked into one move obviously requires prediction but the payoff is huge. The last moveslot really is up to you. Defog is obviously one of Crobat's best assets and is always a worthwhile option while Sleep Talk let's it act as sponge for Sleep and Super Fang is great for catching Steel Types and breaking Sturdy.

It should be noted that Offensive Crobat definitely appreciates Wish and Heal Bell/Aromatherapy Support since it forgoes Roost and eliminating a Burn or Paralysis is necessary to ensure it's utility. That is something to keep in mind and if you decide to replace Shuckle and Blissey or Florges will fill that role beautifully. Obviously it's your team but I think Galvantula is a better Sticky Web User and there are plenty of better Stealth Rockers as well. Other than that good luck with the team :)
