Uber Sun Team: Blaziken Sweep FTW!

Blaziken happens to be one my favorite Pokemon so i decided i would make a team revolving around setting up for a Blaziken sweep. Not only is it cool but it's also fun since Blaziken is a high risk, high reward kind of Pokemon. I've used him before and he has not disappointed. Well anyways enough of my chatter and on to the team.

This is kind of a semi-stall team that attempts to weaken the opponent to set up for a Blaziken sweep late-game. It still functions well even if Blaziken does go down and then converts to full stall.

Oh and for future reference: EDITS will be in RED and BOLD

Team Building Process:

OK so this is where i started. With Blaziken being my main sweeper and Groudon being one of the biggest supporters i will have on this team.

Next i needed a much needed Kyogre deterrent. Since this is a sun team it only makes sense that Kyogre would naturally be a large threat. Palkia has proven worthy at handling Kyogre time and time again on some of my previous team and thus has earned his spot on my team as an experienced veteran.
257.png

At this point i was a little paranoid about keeping Kyogre out of the picture so i added Grass Arceus just for a little added security.

I also firgured that since Blaziken is part fighting type so i figured i would need a baddie to handle the Psychics that could threaten Blaziken. Darkrai was my man.

Next i needed someone to tank the many special hits that would threaten my team but i also needed a team supporter. Blissey proved to be more than enough.

Then I decided that i shouldn't be so paranoid about taking down Kyogre and realized that Blaziken was deathly weak to Rayquaza and Arceus' Extreme Speed and needed a Pokemon to come in and cripple those Pokemon. Ghost Arceus proved more than valuable to my team with his handy immunity to the pesky priority move.

Then I figured out that my team was switching a lot and didn't take too kindly to Toxic Spikes. So i figured that i needed a reliable spinner that fit the team and provided some support and good synergy. Forretress turned out to be the perfect candidate.

Now that a team slot was opened up by Giratina i could now implement Lugia to tank physical hits for the team.

Now on to the closer look!

OK so obviously my first Pokemon is going to be Blaziken.
450px-257Blaziken.png

Blaziken @ Leftovers
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Hi Jump Kick
- Protect
- Flare Blitz

(I changed Blaze Kick to Flare Blitz because it OHKOs Mewtwo 100% of the time. Leftovers was placed to more reliably set up on Arceus - Dark and Heatran)

OK well i think this build is pretty self explanatory. It's a basic Speed Boost Blaziken build with the exception that I'm not using Flare Blitz. I chose Blaze Kick over Flare Blitz because Hi Jump Kick is going to be my main STAB move of choice so i won't be using it much anyways and if i do i still have another reliable STAB at my disposal without the hideous recoil that, along with Life Orb damage, would further decrease Blaziken's longevity. The chance of recoil with Hi Jump Kick is bad enough without Flare Blitz adding to it. Not to mention that under sun it gets pseudo STAB anyways so the difference in damage really isn't all that noticeable. The given EVs maximize Blaziken's offensive stats with a Jolly nature to ensure he has the most possible speed. He is holding a Life Orb so that the use of a Jolly nature won't have as much of a drawback in power.

383Groudon.png

Groudon @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Tail

(I swapped Fire Punch for Stone Edge because Ho-oh gives my team a lot of trouble and Stone Edge makes Ho-oh eat the poo poo)

OK this Groudon build is excellent for supporting Blaziken and setting up for a late game sweep. I chose a bulky lead so I could get Rocks up and assist the team by tanking physical hits and phasing while still maintaining an offensive presence. With Drought he sets up permanent sun to further bolster Blaziken's Blaze Kick while removing his weakness to water (Not that it matters. He can't take a hit anyways). Earthquake is his best option as far as STAB moves go and Fire Punch hits through Pokemon such as Forretress and Ferrothorn while also receiving pseudo STAB from the sun. This set has definitely proven it's worth time and time again.

Lugia-lugia-19544621-545-561.jpg

Lugia @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 84 SDef
Bold Nature
- Ice Beam
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Toxic

(OK so Lugia beat out Palkia out for a spot because I don't need him what with Giratina taking on the roles of both Arceus-Ghost and Palkia along with many others and i still needed a check to Rayquaza Groudon and a more reliable check to Extreme Killer Arceus)

Kyogre threatens this team greatly so i needed a solid deterrent to the rampaging leviathan. Palkia fit the bill better than expected and chops Kyogre down to size with a solid 2HKO while also providing team support as an efficient revenge killer. Spacial Rend and Surf give Palkia two really powerful STAB options while Thunder is there to pop shots off at Kyogre with. I chose Thunder over Thunderbolt since i mainly only use that move on Kyogre anyways so i figured why not since it has perfect accuracy in rain anyways. Outrage allows me to hit Blissey or Chansey pretty hard so that Palkia isn't completely walled by the two pink blobs. The given EVs maximize Palkia's revenge killing potential.

Giratina-dragon-type-6718789-700-872.jpg

Giratina @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Spd / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roar
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

(Giratina freed up two spots on my team with checking EKiller and Kyogre more reliably than Palkia and provides a counter to Manaphy, the ever troubling Ho-oh, Mewtwo and Deoxys-A while lessening the pressure on Blissey as special wall)
Blaziken is deathly weak to powerful priority users such as Rayquaza and Extreme Killer Arceus. Arceus is so broken it's hard to not use him and slapping a Ghost type on him turns him into exactly what i needed to combat the two priority users of Ubers. Arceus-Ghost is completely immune to Extreme Speed and can come in on this move and proceed to cripple the foe for the remainder of the match with Will-O-Wisp. Judgment gives Arceus a reliable STAB move and Flamethrower gets pseudo STAB and hits Ferrothorn and Forretress exceptionally hard. Arceus is a great supporter when it comes to supporting Blaziken and fills this role magnificently.

205.png

Forretress @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 144 SDef / 252 HP / 114 Def
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split

(the EV spread was changed to more reliably check Kyurem-B which basically craps on my team with Banded Outrage)

Blaziken definitely doesn't like entry hazards, especially Toxic Spikes, which further decrease his longevity. So i needed a reliable spinner to help keep Rocks and other hazards off my side of the field and keep my Pokemon healthy throughout the match. Forretress does better than expected when filling the role of Rapid Spinner for my team. Spikes also helps with Rocks to help score KOs with Blaziken. Volt Switch helps keep my momentum and Pain Split lengthens Forretress' longevity. Not to mention he brings many useful resistances to my team. Forretress is a prized member of this team and accomplishes any goal I ask of him.

Chansey_by_Xous54.png

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 4 HP / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Softboiled
- Toxic
- Heal Bell

(Let's face it Chansey is bulkier than Blissey and fulfills the same job at the same time! Why i didn't use her to begin with I don't even know. But yeah she's my standard special wall to assist Giratina with walling)

Blissey is the best at tanking special hits in the Ubers meta-game while also filling a much needed support role for the team. Blissey keeps my defensively inclined Pokemon a second wind with wish and keeps them status-free with Heal Bell. Blissey can also scout with Protect while also restoring her own HP with Wish. Toxic allows her to do some damage to the opponent. Blissey's special defense was maximized in order to take special hits when i need her to and come in and either stall or support the team. Blissey is definitely a valued member of the team.

Well that's my team! Hope you enjoy reading it! Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to look at my team. Any and all rates are appreciated and will be tested. Thanks again guys!

Hi, you have an okay, synergetic team here. You certainly don't lack checks to the most prominent metagame threats such as Arceus-Normal and Kyogre. However, I have some suggestions to improve it.

Starting with Blaziken, use Flare Blitz>Blaze Kick. The extra base power allows it to kill Mewtwo in one hit all the time.

Groudon should use Dragon Tail alongside Stone Edge to prevent sub Ho-oh from setting up on you. If you want Fire Punch, then use Roar instead of Dragon Tail. Some speed creep on Groudon is always nice, but optional.

Next, in my eyes scarf Palkia is a rubbish mon. It is often forced to predict heavily against rain teams (Ferro+Ogre+Dialga cores), and often the reward is just an e-killer setting up on you anyway. Keep it if you wish, but then change the nature to hasty, because Palkia needs to be able to revenge kill DD Rayquaza. Also, I'd like Fire Blast somewhere on the set, probably instead of Outrage or Surf. I guess you could use Latias over Palkia, since it contributes with a ground immunity, but then you won't have a scarfer...

Why use Blissey over Chansey? Chansey has a lot more bulk and the lack of leftovers doesn't really make Blissey better. You should also use max defense and max special defense on Blissey/Chansey.

Your team stuggles with (in order of importance):

Ho-oh (shits on pretty much everything atm)
Specs Ogre (since surf still does 38-45 % with surf to Blissey, should Palkia fall)
Opposing Groudon (you have no immunity to Earthquake, double dance Groudon sets up on Forretress/Blissey)

Good luck.

You have a gaping weakness to Ho-oh. Ho-Oh can set up subs on Forretress & Bliss/Chansey and it walls Blaziken as well as long as it doesn't get an SD up. The only pokemon that checks it well enough is Palkia, and Ho-Oh can tank a Surf/Thunder. I suggest putting Stone Edge on Groudon as opposed to Fire Punch or Dragon Tail or put Stealth Rock on Forretress or Chansey and replace SR with Stone Edge on Groudon.

Hey!

As mentioned previously, this team is well-built but has a few crippling flaws that are holding it back from being ideal. As the threats to your team have already been established, I won't have to explain them, but in short you're weak to Ho-Oh, Groudon, Extremekiller Arceus, and Mixed DD Ray. To help open up a teamslot and check Ho-Oh at the same time, I recommend a Specially Defensive Giratina instead of your current Arceus-Ghost. Specially Defensive Giratina basically combines Palkia role of being a Kyogre check and Arceus-Ghost's role of countering Kyogre into one. Specially Defensive Giratina also is an effective check to Ho-Oh as well as it can Roar its Substitutes and it can even Will-o-Wisp pesky Groudon. Giratina takes some of the pressure of Blissey to check all things Special as Giratina can even switch into most CM Arceus. Additionally, MewTwo and Deo-A, two major threats to your team since you rely on Palkia to revenge them, are both checked by Giratina. This even checks Wacan Manaphy who gives you problems as well! The set you should try out is Will-o-Wisp / Roar / Rest / Sleep Talk with Leftovers, a Calm Nature, and 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe for simple speed creep over other base 90's. You can adjust the speed creep for whatever you like. Even with this change, you're still desperate weak to opposing ExtremeKiller since the Specially Defensive spread does not check it well, and you're still weak to SD Groudon as well. Rayquaza becomes a lot more threatening too. An easy way to fix this is to run a Lugia instead of Palkia. Since Palkia's role is of checking Kyogre is now with Giratina, you can afford to run Lugia as a Physical Wall. Lugia helps check opposing Rayquaza, and counters opposing Groudon and ExtremeKiller. Rapid Spin support is needed for it to be successful, and you have a Forretress! Additionally, common Steel-types wall Lugia which Blaziken can switch in to giving it an easy SD. This gives Lugia great synergy with Blaziken. A set with Ice Beam / Whirlwind / Roost / Toxic and EV's with 248 HP / 176 Def / 84 SpD @ Leftovers with a Bold Nature should work for you. I have always preferred Multiscale, but you can choose to run Pressure if you like. Both have pros and cons, like Multiscale is Multiscale while pressure can PP stall Stone Edge much easier. Ice Beam on the set hits Garchomp and Rayquaza who are problematic without it. Physical Kyurem-B troubles your team tremendously, so EV's on Forretress of 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD with a Relaxed nature allows you to live two rare Banded Outrage's and live to tell the tale. Lastly, to survive long enough to check things like Heatran and Arceus-Dark, try Leftovers on Blaziken instead of Life Orb.

Good luck!

OK guys thank you so much! I've implemented a lot of things! You guys have done quite a lot for my team! Thanks again!

If there's anyone else who has anything to add it would still be considered and appreciated but for the most part I think this case is closed.
