U-turn team (OU)

Hey guys, I recently got into pokemon and this is my first post. So originally, I was planning on making a U-turn team, but I found that I did not always abuse U-turn, so it's felt more like a revenge kill team with multiple u-turners. Tell me what you guys think!

Uxie @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/6 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Yawn
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Memento

I saw another guy's U-turn team online and he used an Uxie lead, so I decided to try it out, and just fell in love with this thing. This is my team's physical wall. This thing is soooo bulky. Nothing will OHKO except for like a specs shadowball from, I don't even know what. Most of the leads I see are physical, which is awesome. I can set up w/e I want on them. Late game, or even at the start if I'm feeling like it, I can just annoy the heck out of people with Yawn until they put something to sleep. I'm not quite sure about my 4th move. I was hoping to use Memento to help my sweeper set up, but it hasn't been working as well as I would hope. Suggestions?

---
Porygonz @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Tri Attack
- Thunderbolt
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam

My favorite revenge killer of all time. Great coverage. Big damage if not resisted. Pretty much takes care of anything below 70%, assuming it's not a wall. This hasn't been as effective on this team as it has been on other teams I've made, but I needed something to handle those physical walls.

---
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/6 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Standard Smogon set. Revenge kill with bullet punch, u-turn for scouting and decent damage on nearly anything. And pursuit trap ghosts and psychics. I basically tried to circle this team around Scizor and Flygon.

---
Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Outrage
- Stone Edge

Standard Flygon. Another great revenge killer with it's Choice Scarf and it's awesome stab moves. I love this pokemon for it's immunity to ground AND thunder moves, so it's fairly easy to switch in to. Again, U-turn for scouting. This is usually my go to pokemon for double downs since it will outspeed anything no scarfed and can U-turn out if face with a threat.

---
Dragonite (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

I really have not had a lot of success with this guy. I wanted my "last" pokemon to be a sleeper that I attempt to set up for. If I can set it up correctly, that meaning I see the oppenent's team and at least a get a small hit off each pokemon and then get a DD, then this thing will sweep, but it's been difficult. I have been able to set up against Blisseys and other walls that don't do any attacking, but sweeps just get stopped pretty easily. Dragonite is just really fragile to me I guess. Or maybe I'm using it incorrectly. Thoughts?

---
Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 244 HP/164 Spd/4 SAtk/96 SDef
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Earth Power
- Will-o-wisp
- Fire Blast

This originally was a specially defensive Jirachi, but I then had a couple games where I was swept by a fire move, so I wanted something to take care of that. Seeing that I had Scizor on the team which I use quite often, I decided to pick Heatran and make it specially bulky while still keeping some offensive power. Counters pretty much everything that counters Scizor, which is why I decided to put sub on this thing. I also put Will-o-wisp so I could burn it's physically offensive threats. This also solved my problem with steel walls, mainly being Skarmory and Forretress.

So an overview of the strategy with this team:
Get SR up and scout out the other team with U-turn, slowly wittling down each of the enemy pokemon, or just knocking them out. And when I think I can sweep, I go into Uxie to put a pokemon to sleep and then Memento into my sweeper(atm DD Dragonite).

Threats: The only pokemon I've had constant problem with is SD Lucario. If it can set up at any point of the battle, it pretty OHKO's all of my team and I can't revenge kill it because of it's access to Extremespeed. It's been so much of a problem, I've considered using it myself in place of Dragonite, which doesn't solve the Lucario problem, but yeah.

Yup, that's my team for now. Comments please! And thanks. :]

Hi roosterlegs, congrats on your first post! This is a fairly cool team, but I think it could definitely have some improvement and extra coverage against threats. First of all though, I want to talk about some team strategy when using U-turn teams. There are actually 2 main types of U-turn teams. The first type uses Spikes and Stealth Rock with the idea of forcing constant switches with U-turn and so racking up the damage quickly.

The second type, which I think this team is geared towards, is to only use SR and focus on keeping momentum onside and racking up strategic damage with the aim of eventually sweeping. What I mean by this is, you will usually be able to get whichever pokemon you want into battle more easily with a U-turn team than on other sorts. Because of this ability, it makes sense to use a high powered attacker or lure, such as Magma Storm + Explosion Heatran, to take out the specific counters on your opponents team to your sweeper.

On this team its easy. We'll stick with DD Dragonite for now. You're using a fairly offensive version, with a 252/252 spread, but with Dragon Claw > Outrage. The reason you have this is to avoid being Outrage-trapped and KO'd early on, but if you manage to take out the Steels and fast revenge killers earlier on this won't be an issue.

Okay, so lets think. What counters Dragonite? The set you're using, with Fire Punch, has less problems than most with opposing Steel types, but ideally you'd want to be using Outrage > Dragon Claw so these are definitely still problems. Bulky Waters are the other main stops to the set, especially Suicune / Gyarados which can take your attacks pretty easily.
Finally, you're probably going to want to get rid of Stealth Rock. First of all, it hurts Dragonite badly, which is obviously not ideal. Second, since U-turn teams focus on switching around a LOT, they are the most vulnerable to Spikes. If you're not prepared, playing with Scizor and Flygon against stall can be a nightmare. So I'm going to suggest you probably need a Rapid Spinner, and if not, at least something like Aerodactyl which can basically guarantee you can keep SR off the field for the first turns. Choice Scarf Smeargle works pretty well too.

Lets start with the bulky waters, though. They're usually responsible for countering Heatran, Infernape, some Dragon types, Gyarados, and occasionally things like Rhyperior. In order to remove them we're going to want to choose something which will basically lure them in without fail and can safely remove all of them. The Magma Storm + Explosion Heatran I mentioned earlier works great, usually with Passho Berry (resists Water attacks) to guarantee you can survive, and it has the benefit of luring Flygon as well which is the main revenge killer of Dragonite. Infernape works okay, but its easily countered by Scarfers. However it does also get U-turn which keeps with the team theme. The last thing I'm going to suggest is Kingdra, which works pretty well with either DD or Choice Specs to hurt Dragonite's counters.

Steel types are easier to deal with. Magnezone obviously comes to mind, as it can trap and KO most while also having perfect defensive synergy with Dragonite. Kingdra works well again, as well as some lures such as Fire Blast Flygon. Of course Heatran will also work great at coming in and causing a lot of damage, but it can't remove Steels as efficiently.

I don't want to build the whole team up from scratch, so lets see what we can incorporate. You already have a Scarf Flygon, so I'd suggest making that either Naughty or Lonely and use Fire Blast > Stone Edge. You also already carry Heatran , so that awesome trapping set I was going on about earlier would fit extremely well:

Heatran @ Passho Berry, Modest nature, 128 HP / 216 SpAtk / 164 Spe
-Magma Storm
-Explosion
-Earth Power
-Hidden Power (Grass)

I'd say keep Scizor, because its a staple on U-turn teams and works pretty well. The team therefore looks like: Scizor/Dragonite/Flygon/Heatran/???/???
You've got most of your functional synergy worked out; this is when you start looking at threats to the team and how you can get around them. Preferably we'd like our counters to carry U-turn, and one of them to have Stealth Rock (although if necessary Heatran can take that, but its something to avoid if we can). Major threats are:

Breloom, Gliscor, Gyarados, Infernape, Lucario, Machamp, Metagross, Suicune and Zapdos. Common stall is a bit difficult but Heatran helps a lot against that. Running Taunt over Earth Power or Hidden Power on Heatran is also possible.

Anyway, the most natural response to these threats is Gyarados + Rotom-A, which covers everything nicely but means SR needs to be on Tran. Celebi looks promising too, beating a lot of those threats, being able to SR, and with access to U-turn. However, it doesn't beat Infernape, Lucario, Machamp or Metagross comfortably. To beat these 4 you should probably use Gyarados or a Scarf Rotom-A. Either way you're going to have a small issue with Infernape or Metagross.

Anyway, to conclude if you follow these suggestions your team would look like this:

-Celebi (Stealth Rock + U-turn)
-Gyarados (bulky DD with EQ)
-Scizor (CB)
-Flygon (Choice Scarf with Fire Blast)
-Heatran (Passho Berry trapper)
-Dragonite (offense Dragon Dance)

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi,

I think this team needs a Rapid Spinner. Poor Dragonite will suffer from Stealth Rock while your other members suffer from Spikes. Stall will just punish you hard. :) Dragonite as a DD Sweeper isn't that bad. It's just that, it's too slow and gets RK'd very easily. A Bulky DDnite would do much better, if you want Dragonite to sweep. But poor Dragonite suffers from foes against Scarf Jirachi that carries Ice Punch. So I would suggest a MixNite.

A MixNite would allow you to beat Stall. Scizor and Flygon vs Stall = lol. A Dragonite that is composed of Fire Blast, Superpower, Draco Meteor and Extremespeed with an EV Spread of 56 Atk / 252 SpA / 200 Spe is really good. Draco Meteor + Extremespeed is a really good combo. Even defensive Zapdos falls to this. 248/0 Zapdos vs Draco Meteor gets up to (60.10% - 70.87%), add in Stealth Rock damage and Extremespeed. Zapdos is a dead Chicken. Or you could use Earthquake instead of Superpower. You'll do much more damage to Heatran but do more less damage against Tyranitar and Blissey. Unless you have them checked.

Good stuff on Dragonite + Heatran. Great synergy. That's all for now, Good Luck!

Hmm, actually WoOoShoOo!! (wtf???) makes a good point. In my rate, I mentioned a spinner would be really nice, but after suggesting Passho+Magma Storm Tran which hurts a lot of stall teams badly I kind of forgot there's still an issue there against Skarmory in particular. Running Taunt on that DD Gyarados helps...

Anyway, WoOoS- oh f$%# it his ^^^ suggestion of MixNite isn't bad and could definitely work if you like it. The other thing I'd suggest you could try is a DD + Heal Bell set. First, this is an amazing defensive and support pokemon, since it beats most Heatran, Infernape, Shaymin, Celebi, Rotom-A, etc, pretty easily; and can Heal Bell to cure you of status which is more of a concern to you than usual. It ALSO basically wrecks stall teams once their steel type is gone, which you should be able to facilitate between lure Flygon, Heatran and constant U-turns.

As a person who has used U-turn teams a lot before, I can say that for a good bulky water killer, offensive Zapdos with U-turn/Heat Wave/Thunderbolt/HP Grass or Roost is great. LO of course.
