Trying out Mega Mawile

Hi, new user here! I'm working on a competitive team for ingame, and figured I'd post what I've found.

mawile-mega.gif

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 164 HP / 252 Atk / 92 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch

Going with one set suggested by Cshadow. Either Play Rough when it can take hits, Sucker Punch when it can predict an attack, or Substitute + Focus Punch when it predicts a status move. So far, it's worked really well, albeit it suffers from being fairly predictable.

thundurus.gif

Thundurus (Incarnate) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Wave / Thunderbolt

Went through discussion on Thundurus-I and found that one set I was thinking of was in the analysis anyway :P Anyway, I lead with this to prevent immediate hazards, then either Thunder Wave to hit the switch-in or Volt Switch out. Decided on Sitrus Berry as I'll likely need Avalugg more than Thundurus due to Rapid Spin. I'm also considering forgoing Thunder Wave for Thunderbolt, as it provides more consistent STAB power and Thunder Wave is really situational compared to Taunt.

latias.gif

Latias (F) @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 184 SAtk / 72 HP
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Roost / Healing Wish
- Defog

Latios is far more reliable in terms of switching in to defog, and it also has better offensive presence. In addition, it has Roost to heal HP in a pinch, and I'm also considering Healing Wish to support Mawile (it tends to run out of HP quickly).

terrakion.gif

Terrakion @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Taunt

Mainly for Stealth Rocks. Taunt sees occasional usage against Stealth Rock users, and Close Combat + Stone Edge does massive damage on non-resists. So far, this thing has usually been fast enough, but it's kinda weak to priority.

greninja.gif

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse
- U-turn

It's fast, it can U-turn, and it gets STAB on everything. More importantly though, it's the only reliable special attacker on my team (Thundurus is intended more for Taunt + Volt Switch + Thunder Wave, and Volcarona is walled by Fire types and loses 50% to Stealth Rock). Its pathetic defenses are offset somewhat by its high speed, and while U-turn is highly situational, it helps against stuff that it can't do damage to like Rotom-W and Ferrothorn. However, it dies easily to Mach Punch, making it somewhat unreliable against Breloom and bad against Conkeldurr.

volcarona.gif

Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 SAtk / 116 Spd / 144 HP
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain

Either this thing is fantastic and nets a couple of KOs, or it dies due to its many weaknesses and Stealth Rock. Still, I love it- it's more reliable than the Moltres I ran originally, thanks to Giga Drain providing healing and high-powered STABs in Bug Buzz and Flamethrower, not to mention good defenses and a better defensive typing (still bad though).

Old members
avalugg.gif

Avalugg @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Avalanche
- Recover
- Earthquake

Replaced with Latios
moltres.gif

Moltres @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Air Slash
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- U-turn

Replaced with Volcarona

Thanks!

Hey, pretty cool team! Mawile is great, and sub punch is the best set for it. I would give thundurus leftovers for sure, as the constant recovery is more useful than the one time 25 or 30% from sitrus. I'd personally give volcorona a try over moltres. volc is really underrated this meta, and if you focus punch heatran on the switch (sub gives away punch), you can often get an easy sweep. Finally, I'd replace avalugg with latias. Latias' defog is a lot more reliable than avalugg's spin, and lati helps out by countering char-y who otherwise looks like a problem poke. best of luck!

Thanks! Managed to get up to 1380 or something with that (Latias is a HUGE asset, thanks to a fair number of people thinking they can just switch in special walls....) I do have one question before I move this team ingame: would it be better to swap Thunder Wave for Thunderbolt on Thundurus? I've had limited success with it so far, and having to switch out after Volt Turn (giving my opponent momentum) since it's my only Electric attack doesn't seem worth it.

EDIT: I'm considering subbing Healing Wish over Roost on Latias- when I've played with Latias, I've never really had much use for Roost (either since it did its job without taking much damage, or it got hit by Knock Off and lost about 90% of its HP), and both Volcarona and Mega Mawile lack healing (which is more noticable on Mawile, as it relies on Substitute). Any thoughts?
