[OVERVIEW]
Tropius is a pretty bad Pokemon in PU; even though it has a niche as a bulky SubSeeder with access to the combination of Sitrus Berry and Harvest, it faces competition from Gourgeist-S. It also has good bulk, allowing it to handle Pokemon such as Sawsbuck and Torterra. However, its Grass / Flying typing gives it a weakness to Stealth Rock as well as to common attacking types such as Fire and Ice. Tropius is also outclassed as an offensive Grass-type by the likes of Leafeon and Sawsbuck. Its low Speed holds Tropius back, as it can be easily Taunted by the likes of Misdreavus and Grumpig, Encored by Kadabra, or taken out by faster Pokemon such as Simipour and Rotom-F.

Moves
========
Leech Seed recovers health with each turn while slowly wearing down the foe or forcing switches. Substitute protects Tropius from status and brings it to Sitrus Berry range. Air Slash allows Tropius to hit other Grass-types such as Tangela and Gourgeist, which are immune to Leech Seed, as well as breaking frail Substitutes of Pokemon such as Persian. Protect racks up Leech Seed damage while providing an extra turn to acquire a Sitrus Berry through Harvest. Toxic can be used to wear down bulkier foes such as Lickilicky and Grumpig, which Tropius struggles with, as well as setup sweepers such as Carracosta and Ninetales.
Set Details
========
248 HP EVs maximize Tropius's bulk while minimizing Stealth Rock damage. Maximum investment in Defense along with a Bold nature gives Tropius added physical bulk to better handle Pokemon such as Jumpluff and non-Stone Edge variants of Torterra. Harvest is the preferred ability, as it gives Tropius a 50% chance to recover its Sitrus Berry after it has been used. Sitrus Berry is Tropius's main form of recovery, as it restores its health when it gets low and can be reused thanks to Harvest. 72 EVs in Speed could be run to outspeed uninvested base 60s such as Tangela, which Tropius can then 2HKO with Air Slash before it can 2HKO Tropius with Hidden Power Ice.
Usage Tips
========
Use Protect as a means to scout your foe's attack and get another turn to recover Tropius's Sitrus Berry or recover health from Leech Seed, but make sure sweepers don't use Tropius as setup bait. Switch Tropius in on a move it resists, an example being a Grass-type move such as Seed Bomb. From there, Tropius can proceed to set up Substitute as the opponent switches out or use Protect to see if the foe carries super effective coverage moves against it. Be mindful of switching Tropius in on neutral attacks, as it can get worn down easily even with Sitrus Berry and Harvest, with strong physical attackers such as Stoutland being able to 2HKO it. Using Leech Seed is Tropius's main priority, but you must be careful of using it on Pokemon that are immune to Leech Seed or Sap Sipper Pokemon such as Zebstrika and Sawsbuck. If running Toxic, it should be used early to cripple bulkier foes and setup sweepers that Tropius has trouble with, but you should be wary of Magic Guard and fast Substitute users such as Duosion and Ninetales, as they can nullify Leech Seed and Toxic. Keep Tropius as healthy as possible, as being inflicted with status will hinder Tropius for the duration of the match.
Team Options
========
Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Roselia, Whirlipede, and Carracosta helps Tropius wear down foes faster. Toxic Spikes is especially helpful, as it aids Tropius in wearing down bulkier foes such as Lickilicky and Grumpig. Pokemon that can handle Grass- and Steel-types for Tropius, such as Rotom-F, Magnet Pull Probopass, Ninetales, and special Poliwrath, make it easier for Tropius to function. Cleric support from Pokemon such as Grumpig and Hypno can rid Tropius of burn and poison, which would otherwise hinder it. These Pokemon can also check special attackers that Tropius has trouble with. Water-types such as Carracosta, Simipour, and the aforementioned Poliwrath can handle Armaldo and Piloswine for Tropius, which can easily break past its Substitutes with Rock Blast and Icicle Spear, respectively. Setup sweepers and wallbreakers such as Barbaracle, Ninetales, and Ursaring appreciate Tropius's ability to wear down foes with Leech Seed. Rapid Spin support from Pokemon such as Armaldo and Torkoal can remove Stealth Rock, making it easier for Tropius to function.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Energy Ball provides Tropius with a secondary STAB attack to hit Rock-, Ground-, and Water-types such as Golem, Stunfisk, and Barbaracle super effectively. Tropius has access to Swords Dance and Dragon Dance, allowing it to try a physical set containing moves such as Leaf Blade, Aerial Ace, and Earthquake, but such a set is outclassed by Leafeon and Sawsbuck. A special set with Chlorophyll or Solar Power can be used with Solar Beam, Air Slash, Hidden Power Fire, and Sunny Day or Synthesis but is outclassed by Weepinbell. Whirlwind can phaze foes and rack up entry hazard damage. Roost gives Tropius a more reliable form of recovery at the expense of being able to wear down foes with Leech Seed. Lum Berry in conjunction with Rest and Harvest can remove status and fully restore Tropius's health.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Ice-types**: Ice-types such as Rotom-F and Aurorus don't mind taking an Air Slash and can outspeed Tropius and OHKO it with Blizzard. Piloswine can take an Air Slash and break Tropius's Substitute with Icicle Spear.
**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Ninetales and Rapidash can threaten Tropius with their STAB moves. Ninetales can also proceed to set up Substitute as Tropius switches out.
**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon with good special bulk such as Lickilicky and Grumpig can shrug off Air Slash and either cripple Tropius with status or simply deal damage to Tropius.
**Taunt**: Tropius is fairly slow, so Pokemon that can outspeed and Taunt it can hinder its capabilities. Examples of this include Misdreavus and Barbaracle.
**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock takes 25% of Tropius's health every time it switches in, and common Stealth Rock setters such as Golem and Piloswine carry super effective moves against Tropius.
**Status**: Tropius hates being inflicted with status conditions, so Pokemon that can cripple Tropius with burn, poison, or paralysis before it can set up a Substitute are problematic. Examples include Gourgeist-XL and Grumpig.
**Magic Guard**: Pokemon such as Duosion and Clefairy don't lose any health from Leech Seed thanks to Magic Guard and can proceed to set up Calm Mind.
