The idea of this team is to combine the use of trick room and the move ‘endeavor’, as well as using trick room to increase the usefulness of some slow yet powerful pokemon. This team also relies upon the combination of ‘trick room’ and the move ‘u turn’, to allow pokemon that receive the trick room benefit to enter the battle unscathed.
Two auto-weather inducers
‘Snow warning’ is more useful to this team than ‘sand stream’, as less pokemon in OU are immune to its effects. This allows clefable to KO more pokemon with the combination of: endeavor, trick room, focus sash, magic guard and hail.
Note - the order of the IVs are: HP/Atk/Def/Spe/SpA/SpD
Abomasnow
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
IVs: 31/30/31/30/30/31 (for hidden power fire 70)
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Blizzard
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Protect
This abomasnow has speed and likes to surprise opponents with an unusual moveset that is specially orientated. It sets up the hail for use by other members of the team and can cause confusion in opponents who then expect a standard hail team to follow (stallrein etc). Protect scouts against attacks, although opponents could then predict a switch. People do not expect hidden power fire, which has the ability to OHKO a lot of pokemon that normally wouldn’t feel threatened by abomasnow.
Tyranitar
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef
IVs: 31/31/31/0/31/31 (for trick room)
Brave nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Thunderpunch
- Icepunch
Just in case abomasnow is down and my opponent chooses to introduce a weather effect of their own (sun/rain), then tyranitar is my back-up. He is one of the main pokemon that is switched to using u-turn, since his poor speed is negated by the effects the trick room. I decided not to use curse because he only has a possible 4 turns (or less) before trick room runs out, so it is of greater importance to have a greater diversity of attacks.
Two trick-room, u-turn, (initially) fast pokemon
The problem that many trick room teams face is how to switch between pokemon to utilise trick room but not to take too much damage, I hope I have solved this with the combination of: speedy pokemon, trick room, u turn. Trick room is set up, and then usually the opponent is now faster than either Azelf/Jirachi, so u-turn would usually hit last allowing a free switch without damage to the pokemon using trick room.
Uxie
Item: Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 Spd
IVs: 31/31/31/31/29/31 (for legality)
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Trick Room
- U-turn
- Reflect
- Light Screen
I decided to use a dual screen version of Uxie (enhanced by the use of light clay) because this gives greater durability to tyranitar and mamoswine, both of which lack any sort of direct healing. The defences on Uxie give it greater durability than Azelf (who was used originally) both of which can utilise the set above. Uxie is also fairly fast, having 95 base speed, so it still fits in with the strategy of using trick room first and then using u-turn to pseudo-pass the effects of trick room.
Jirachi
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
IVs: 31/31/31/31/29/31 (for legality)
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Trick Room
- U-turn
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
Jirachi is my second u-turn, trick room pokemon. For the last two moveslots I decided to use iron head and thunder wave as this spreads paralysis around the opponents team (always good for the endeavor pokemon) as well as using the high probability of flinch to keep the opponent from hitting jirachi.
Two endeavor pokemon to receive trick room
Mamoswine
Item: Liechi Berry (increases attack 1 stage at 25% health or less)
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 124 HP/252 Atk/64 Def/68 SDef
IVs: 31/31/31/0/31/31 (for trick room)
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Endeavor
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Substitute
Mamoswine is another pokemon that has a fantastic attacking base stat but a disappointing speed stat (rectified by trick room). It also has resistance to both the effects of hail and sandstorm, which gives it greater synergy with both abomasnow and tyranitar. This is the classic ‘endeavor’ set for mamoswine, which plays of its great attacking stat as well as being able to take advantage of being resistant to both weather effects.
Clefable (Level 2)
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 0 across the board
IVs: 0/31/31/0/31/31 (for beating other Lv2 Clefables in trick room and reducing health for endeavor)
Quiet nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Encore
- Protect
- Thunder Wave
- Endeavor
This is a level 2 clefable. Being resistant to all field effects (including stealth rock and all damaging weather effects) pairing an endeavor clefable with trick room is extremely deadly. Assuming that the user is not utilising ghost types (or does not realise the true power of this clefable) this can easily get two free OHKOs on the opponents pokemon.
Thunder wave is useful to spread paralysis around the team. Protect once again scouts for incoming attacks whilst healing wish is another indirect way of healing tyranitar/mamoswine.
An important thing to remember is that weather effects are applied before leftovers, so once clefable has reduced the opposing pokemon to 15hp using endeavor, hail/sandstorm will finish it off.
