:tinkaton: Stop! Hammer Time!

[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Encore
move 3: Thunder Wave / Gigaton Hammer
move 4: Knock Off
item: Air Balloon / Focus Sash
ability: Mold Breaker
nature: Careful
evs: 244 HP / 4 Atk / 164 Def / 20 SpD / 76 Spe
tera type: Fire / Flying

[SET COMMENTS]

* Tinkaton boasts an impressive support movepool alongside a fantastic typing in Fairy / Steel.

* Encore can open up opportunities for teammates, locking foes into status moves or attacks that a teammate resists.

* With Mold Breaker, Tinkaton is capable of paralyzing Gholdengo and Garganacl with Thunder Wave.

Tera Types
========

* **Fire**: Fire Tera turns Tinkaton's Fire-type weakness into a resistance, allowing it to use Encore on Volcarona.

* **Flying**: Flying Tera makes Tinkaton immune to Ground, which can be useful in avoiding Earthquake from the likes of Garchomp and Tera Ground Baxcalibur.

EV Spreads
========

* **244 HP / 4 Atk / 164 Def / 20 SpD / 76 Spe with Careful**: The HP and Defense investment lets Tinkaton survive Adamant Dragonite's Earthquake into Extreme Speed. The Special Defense investment allows Tinkaton to survive one Timid Choice Specs Fire Blast from Hydreigon, two Modest Choice Specs Shadow Balls from Dragapult, and three uninvested Shadow Balls from Gholdengo. The Speed investment allows Tinkaton to outspeed a paralyzed non-Choice Scarf Hydreigon.

Items
========
* **Air Balloon**: Air Balloon lets Tinkaton set up Stealth Rock against other common entry hazard setters such as Garchomp and Glimmora without the use of Flying Tera and pairs incredibly well with Encore.

* **Focus Sash**: Focus Sash allows Tinkaton to get a Thunder Wave off even against powerful attacks from the likes of Terastallized Garchomp, Hydreigon, and Dragapult.

[SET]
name: Offensive Support
move 1: Encore
move 2: Gigaton Hammer
move 3: Knock Off / Play Rough
move 4: Swords Dance
item: Leftovers / Focus Sash
ability: Mold Breaker
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 4 SpD / 228 Spe
tera type: Flying / Steel

[SET COMMENTS]

* Despite Tinkaton's low offensive stats, it can still perform as an offensive Pokemon thanks to Gigaton Hammer's enormous 160 Base Power and Swords Dance.

* Encore is a fantastic support move, potentially locking foes into resisted moves after a switch-in or denying slower, bulkier foes their recovery moves for a few turns.

* Thanks to Mold Breaker, Tinkaton can hit Unaware Dondozo with boosted Play Rough, but Knock Off is valuable for removing held items.

Tera Types
========
* **Flying**: Flying Tera turns Tinkaton's Ground-type weakness into an immunity, allowing it to use Encore on moves like Earthquake and Fissure from foes such as Garchomp and Dondozo.

* **Steel**: Steel Tera capitalizes on Gigaton Hammer to make it deal as much damage as possible.

EV Spreads
========

* **4 HP / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 4 SpD / 228 Spe with Jolly**: This spread outspeeds Annihilape and allows Tinkaton to survive a +1 Dragon Claw + Normal Tera Extreme Speed from Dragonite after Terastallizing.

Items
========
* **Leftovers**: Leftovers has great synergy with Encore, allowing it to set up while healing off some of the damage from weak moves.

* **Focus Sash**: Holding a Focus Sash guarantees that Tinkaton can get at least one move off even against super effective attacks aimed at it.

Air balloon should be the first item recommendation imo, it’s by far the utility sets most common item from my experience, and synergizes the best with how Tinkaton plays.

Since Tinkaton is a new Pokémon, it is probably wise to explain that Gigaton Hammer cannot be used on consecutive turns, it’s pretty obvious to nerds like us but probably not to everyone.

Otherwise it looks good to me. QC APPROVED

Those are good points, I agree with them, but for Gigaton Hammer I've been told it's best to avoid information that can be learned from clicking on a move to see its effects.

Hey just one last thing before this gets checked: new QC member Pearl had some feedback on this, and they're like, the Tinkaton expert as far as I'm concerned LOL

let's see
[6:02 PM]
i think the 2nd set is both more prevalent and probably more consistent in the long run

Theorymon — Today at 6:02 PM
(feel free to post in the thread too btw. If you don't I'll just quote your post lol)

Pearl — Today at 6:02 PM
i don't think encore should be a slash
[6:02 PM]
that move is non negotiable
[6:03 PM]
sometimes you can bluff and threaten without having the move but theres scenarios where not having it will make you cry
[6:03 PM]
its def better than twave
[6:03 PM]
i'd have encore, knock, hammer and sr with twave slashed alongside both hammer and sr
[6:03 PM]
probably
[6:04 PM]
air balloon and sash are best on that set, i'd ditch leftovers entirely
[6:04 PM]
i think leftovers are good on sd cause you'll be breaking fat stuff so the lefties recovery adds up a lot
[6:04 PM]
but on support i think you just do your thing and then let tinkaton drop
[6:05 PM]
being able to mess with chomp and other prevalent eq users is massive, while sash lets you get a twave off on hydra/specs pult
[6:06 PM]
also on utility i think best tera is something that resists fire
[6:06 PM]
so you can bully volc

Nice, thank you both for the suggestions! I implemented them, and also shifted the sets around so Utility is first.

For the utility set, could you explain what the Atk EVs are for if not running Gigaton Hammer? Knock Off itself isn't weak, but non-STAB Knock Off from Tinkton as the only attack seems useless to invest for.

You bring a good point! Now that we have access to some successful team's spreads with it I'm gonna change that.
